Ba-Ba (also written Baba) is the baboon boss room of Tombs of Amascut. Gnomonkey has attacked the fight with the "red X" stall method since 2022, and describes it after the June 2025 changes as a zero-damage, zero-brew room that needs no special tech123.

Overview

  • Gnomonkey does Ba-Ba first in the raid so his pre-pot helps in the monkey room, which wants ranging and strength boosts45. In the 2022 solo 500 he instead did Ba-Ba second because salt is not needed for it1.
  • Early opinion (2022): he hoped Jagex would fix a bug or issue with Ba-Ba and stop her hitting so hard through prayer6.
  • Current position (June 2025 onward): Ba-Ba no longer hits through prayer, so praying melee means no damage from her789. He calls it a zero-brew room with no Red X and no five-to-one, saying even in a 500 it is totally free and just takes a while, especially when the Bandos godsword misses310.
  • In a duo, he called the monkey room the biggest supply drain of the whole raid, more than any boss, and said Ba-Ba has a lot of drain too (2025)1112. He recommends targeting the main monkey to reduce drain11.

Mechanics

  • Shockwave / slam: Ba-Ba slams the back of the room every 33 percent of her health, killing the player instantly in front of the pit; Gnomonkey marks safe tiles and uses a Monster HP Percentage plugin13. Boulder phases occur at 66% and 33%14. Chip damage: she drops one rock on the head and two elsewhere for about 50 damage each; a thrown big rock is avoided by standing next to one of the rocks or a sarcophagus, though a sarcophagus hit twice opens and releases balls of death15. Not standing next to a rock when the thrown rock lands does ten times more damage; standing next to a sarcophagus halves damage1617.
  • Area attack: if the cycle is messed up in the red X setup, the area attack hits for about 3018. The gap does not kill from the top row1920.
  • Monkeys: the spawned monkeys are one-tick, ignore attack delay, and are good for gaining double Death Charge spec (2026)2122. After the June 2025 update any damage guarantees a one-shot, and they can be skipped at low health because they despawn2324; with Circle swap or a blowpipe they are one-ticked2526. Earlier (2024) he killed the small baboons with a crossbow because they do a lot of damage17.
  • Coffins: still usable to block one hit each without breaking, and one can stand a tile off one and take no damage (2025)27.
  • Boulders: one of five boulders is cracked and must be one-shot with the Bow of Faerdhinen; he waits until the next boulder touches his character on a marked tile row, then runs up and hits Ba-Ba with the fang2829. Standing on the corner of the boulders gives room to run to the other corner when she knocks back or places the shadow AoE3031. In 2025 he said not to range her while boulders roll, since melee DPS is much better24. The Voidwaker did not one-shot the cracked boulder after the May 2024 update without a potion, so he suggested an accurate blowpipe with a full switch and a pre-potted ranging potion32; the Bow of Faerdhinen avoids boulder issues33.
  • Shadow step marker: run across her to the other side; running under her and clicking melee drags the player into the boulder34.

Red X method (2022-2024)

Before the June 2025 update Gnomonkey used the red X method to negate all of her damage: a red click keeps Ba-Ba in place and monsters cannot path under the player, forcing her to proc Shadow Stomp repeatedly and not attack35236.

  • Ba-Ba attacks at six-tick speed, so red X slows melee to that speed37. Setup (2022): wait right of the gap, hit once, walk right one tile, right click the obelisk, walk three under, click Ba-Ba to walk three back, then cycle two under and two back37. Restart after boulders: drop a potion left of Ba-Ba, run to the top right, hit once, step back one tile, step three under, attack, then cycle38. Boulders are avoided by stepping diagonally37.
  • Entry shortcuts: a four-tick hit (Keris) then any hit and two under20; Voidwaker on stab then four-tick hit into a two-step under39; drop a Sanfew serum, poke with the Keris, swap to the Osmumten's fang and go two under two back on the swing40. Without Keris: a four-tick hit into a Fang hit into two steps under41.
  • Cue to continue the cycle is her paw going up, then the obelisk click; the window is two ticks42. Switches between attacks are possible, such as a Zaryte crossbow spec and back to melee43. He said the red X is the easy way: 500s are possible without it but harder than needed39, and fighting conventionally is always fastest but she becomes much less consistent to face tank with Dehydration2. After the update, the red X is no longer required: Jagex's wording that Red X "still has its place" was confusing to Gnomonkey; he reported it was confirmed on Reddit that the Ba-Ba changes in the initial blog were kept44.

Specs, gear and supplies

  • Bandos godsword: drain at least 20 defence levels (the 20 damage cap) before melee, usable while red Xing since it is six-tick434546. A 2024 note puts a threshold at about 1000 damage36. He then uses Burning claws on stab (bosses have around 500 slash defence), or Voidwaker4647. Voidwaker spec again at the 90% boulder costs fifty spec (2023)48. Double Death Charge can recover 100% spec around 50% if the godsword missed49. Bone dagger special drains her on entry (2024 300 raid)5051. See Bone dagger.
  • Nothing in the room is weak to crush, so no Dragon warhammer or Arclight52. He considers bringing Barrage trolling because thralls are too valuable (Thralls); he does not thrall constantly in this room to avoid a dose5354.
  • Prayer and supplies: Ba-Ba needs no prayer and no resources if done properly, aiming for zero doses (2023)5556. He did the room on two prayer points and walked out with the same57, used one restore dose in May 2024 saying he could have used zero58, and one brew in October 2024, expecting one to two on average59. Under the June 2025 changes: no brews needed, use them freely after chip damage (practice used two doses)6061; April 2026: no brews, one restore dose with some Piety flicking, two or three without flicking62. With a Blue moon setup no tanky armour is needed and he one-tick flicks Piety with protect from melee8.
  • Freezing Ba-Ba (and Kephri) keeps them still63. Re-pot a super combat after each full brew17.

Monkey room

  • All monkeys except thralls (brawler, thrower, mage, shaman, volatile) count toward a cap preventing the next wave. First two waves need zero alive, the second to last has a cap of two, and others one. Kill low-HP monkeys and blow up volatiles quickly; chinchompas roll off defence so can kill throwers and brawlers from thralls; summoned thralls do not attack cursed baboons642. See Monkey Room.
  • Supply drain is highest here in duo runs11; a "use" tech on the green vial shift-click cures a teammate instantly65.

Boulder Dash 10 Faster boulders, a one-boulder phase essentially impossible, about four seconds per boulder; worst Ba-Ba invocation, low C in 2022. 2025: turn on around 350 to 400+7570.
