Vasa Nistirio is a Chambers of Xeric boss that Gnomonkey treats as a DPS check, like Vespula but not a bad one. He rated her B tier in March 2022, with less skill than Vanguards but less annoying, and noted that no regular Chambers boss made A tier15. In Challenge Mode he calls the room the second hardest and the most switch-heavy6. The last floor of a run is a killer, since every room has a huge amount of RNG that can end the run, and Guardians is the only easy room7.

Opening bomb

On entering, the player is teleported and stunned, then Vasa drops a bomb that deals current health minus five (it scans health at the teleport), leaving five health regardless869. Early on, Gnomonkey said players heal to full and take the hit on purpose to Vengeance the boss, calling Vasa the only boss where Vengeance is technically better than thralls10. In November 2024 he no longer heals beforehand because the bomb leaves five health anyway; instead he heals after the teleport, and the Phoenix necklace gives health back86. A later tip is to sip a brew after the teleport to reduce the bomb damage, then use a hammer, which works as a good spec until she heals from the crystals9. In his Blood fury setup he tries to take damage if it heals him to 99, since he is not venging and Vasa takes all health anyway, so lower HP lets sweets raise it higher11.

A decent overload timer is needed before entering, with a new one sipped early if needed, because he has to re-overload right after the bomb12. He drinks a brew whenever the overload is about to refresh, every 15 seconds, which is really important13.

The fight

Vasa goes to crystals over and over; after roughly the third crystal she heals off them and goes to the middle for another bomb, repeating142. A really good Vasa is anything below a two-crystal; a one-crystal Vasa is great, and killing her before the second crystal makes about a minute154. With bad bow RNG she can take two minutes or more, ending the run16.

  • Movement. She is on a three-tick cycle, so move whenever on weapon cooldown, then attack. She throws 3x3 AoE rocks, so he shoots, moves four times, then shoots again, and must keep moving to be completely safe. Red tiles he marked are where she drags the player4172.
  • Trampling. When she walks to the player, praying melee reduces the damage, though it is not required1618.
  • Crystals. Crystals are very tanky to anything that is not stab, so the player puts gear on stab (poke) and swaps quickly, since she heals fully or a lot and bombs again if slow3. He switches to Void waker on stab, kills the crystal, then switches back to ranged. After the first crystal she never walks back to the crystal just killed, which is a safe place to spec19. Void waker also doubles as a defence-ignoring spec weapon, though it is reduced on Vasa crystals, which in June 2023 he judged bad there compared with Vanguards; by November 2024 he used it as the crystal weapon202119.
  • Prayer and switches. Between casts, Masori can be equipped for some defence, with Masori prayer flicked in between20. He puts Rigor on before the switches, since getting prayer on matters more than completing all seven switches22.
  • Hammer. Hammer her, but not at the end of the fight18.

Setup sequence (February 2023)

After the Guardian dies he equips the mace set to spike for stabbing crystals, equips claws, then his range setup so the switches are in the correct order; very fast switches are needed to avoid losing ticks15. When Vasa teleports him he eats three sweets and drinks a brew if his overload will restore stats, spam clicks a shot without Rigor and avoids boulders by moving right before the bow can shoot again15. He does one final shot, switches to claws and double specs the crystal, maces it if not dead, and switches back to the Twisted bow15. In June 2023 he said Bofa at Vasa is not the play and a rune crossbow is better23.

Supplies and Guardians

There is one Revite for the Vasa floor; without one from Vanguards, the only other comes from Muttadiles24. In Guardians, he can summon the skeleton thrall to potentially save a tick by overkilling the second Guardian. He believes his "funny walk" there beats the typical two-tile running because it makes flicking prayers easier and needs fewer clicks and no timing, though it does not matter much711. If forced to run through Vasa, pray melee to reduce trample damage16.
