Invocations are the toggles in Tombs of Amascut that raise or lower the raid level, change mechanics and supplies, and set the number of lives. Gnomonkey ranked them in 2022, criticised the system as mostly detracting, and by 2025 had a staged progression guide from 150 to 500s plus per-video setups. His view of several invocations (Overlords, Dehydration, the life invocations) changed over time.

General principles

  • ToA is all about having many invocation options; if one is a struggle, it can be turned off and another turned on1. He recommends adding invocations one at a time until reaching a good farming spot, preferably 500s eventually with good gear, and says the right choices depend on gear and skill2.
  • He groups invocations into those basically always on, those to look to add, and difficult ones usually only added for Combat Achievements, pet transmogs and 500s2. The !invos command and his invocation video cover progression to 500s3.
  • In 2022 he said the system very rarely adds to the raid and mostly detracts, citing Overly Draining reducing special attacks and Dehydration preventing brews, Upset Stomach shrinking the cleansing jugs at Zebak and Keep Back adding melee chip damage at Akkha45. He held up Feeling Special with Double Trouble at Akkha as great design since it forces unique pathing6, and said nearly every invocation should add mechanics, suggesting cursed baboons at Ba-Ba or both Wardens fighting in P2 and P36. See also Opinion: Tombs of Amascut lacks depth.
  • Insanity was a letdown because it is really a free 50 raid level7. By 2025 he found it really easy and hyped up8. To survive it at the Wardens he dodges left, middle, right since tiles are thrown every three ticks with two ticks of grace9; an Eye of Ayak matches the three-tick cycle10.

Life invocations

  • Try Again is worth 5 raid level and Persistence 10; they relate to deaths allowed. In 2022 he put both in F tier since softcore is free and gives three deaths, and Hardcore is worth more11. He placed Softcore in B tier and said Hardcore would typically be run almost always1213.
  • The life invocations (Try Again, Persistence, Softcore, Hardcore) set lives before a wipe; dying restarts at the room start and may give crunchy scarab supplies14. In 2025 he says to always have at least Softcore, since salts are lost on death with no way to re-boost, and Softcore lets a dead player exit and avoid the death fee; Hardcore can be turned on at higher levels15. He turns Softcore off by 450 and runs Hardcore in his examples16. While learning, Hardcore is an obvious addition for a free 10 raid level since money is lost only on death17. At 400 with No Help Needed, a death leaves too few salts, but the raid can be reset without the 500k fee18.

Timers

  • The timer invocations Walk for It, Jog for It, Run for It and Sprint for It give points for finishing in 40, 35, 30 and 25 minutes19. In 2022 he called Walk Forth probably the most useful and Jog Forth B tier, putting the least-used in C tier since at high levels they cannot be used and he would rather push raid level2021.
  • 2025 advice: use only Walk for It or no timers; if finishing under 25 minutes consistently, raise the raid level and slow down for more loot22. They are only worth enabling if the time will be made, otherwise raid level and purple chance drop23. At 200, speed timers can fund turning off an annoying boss invocation24. He turned the timer off in his 500 example because time pressure gets learners killed25, but in July 2025 runs the timer, which he says is cleared easily without AFKing26.
  • For money (2022) his optimal setup was raid level 510 with the 40-minute timer off until consistently getting 35-minute raids (or in a one-plus-one team)27.

Supply invocations

  • Need Some Help (66%), Need Less Help (33%) and No Help Needed (10%) reduce spirit supplies after two bosses28. They make the raid much harder for learners and should not be touched until 300 plus, with 400s a possible start if supplies are not an issue28. With them on, two salts per pickup is no longer guaranteed, possibly forcing double Power instead of Power into Life29. He goes straight from full supplies to No Help Needed, because of the salt30. His 400 preset turns No Help Needed on, as supplies should not be an issue with hybrid gear18. In 2022, No Help Needed was excellent at 40 raid level for money31. For a 300 he uses none32, and as you improve starts cranking the supply invocation down33.

Path invocations

  • He calls the path invocations a noob trap, among the last to enable34. Walk the Path gives four path levels, each adding 8% HP and damage with harsher mechanics at levels 2 and 4; Pathseeker puts every boss at level 1, Pathfinder level 2, Pathmaster level 33435. Pathseeker is worth 15 raid level and an obvious pick17.
  • Progression: Walk the Path around 350 plus, Pathseeker at 400; the other two almost never, since level 4 bosses are very difficult and tedious35.
  • Level effects: Zebak at level 4 has two-tick projectiles in enrage and blood barrage cannot be flicked36; Akkha's Simon Says needs four icons, five at level 2, six at level 437; level 4 Kephri bombs come fast and hit hard, with sets of three swarms from level 237; Ba-Ba only drops boulders faster, and at Warden phase 3 ghost projectiles match boss levels38. Higher boss HP does add points, but reaching the Warden faster is better39.
  • In 2022 he said all path invocations except Pathmaster are worth using for money, as the raid level gain outweighs the extra HP and defence40; Pathmaster, only 10 raid level, is not worth it40. In 2025 he again avoids Pathmaster because it gives a level 4 Zebak, using Pathfinder with Walk the Path41. He does Zebak before Akkha in that run, because Akkha first could raise Zebak to level 4 under Pathfinder42.

Prayer and consumable invocations

  • Quiet Prayers makes protection prayers 10% less effective, and Deadly Prayers drains prayer by 20% of total damage taken39. He calls Quiet Prayers terrible, never to be taken short of a 600 raid, with Zebak still a serious issue39; in 2022 it was a waste of minutes for money31. Deadly Prayers is typically free from 150 to 500s, but watch for smiting yourself when healing with a yellow Keris4331.
  • On a Diet stops food, Dehydration stops healing potions (including brews and ambrosia), and Overly Draining makes specials cost 100%44. On a Diet is one of the first to enable since brews are strong44; counterintuitively it gives more ambrosia on average, which he calls the most overpowered raid potion45. See On a Diet / Dehydration / Overly Draining.
  • Dehydration: in 2022 he said On a Diet and Dehydration are both worth using with yellow Kiris31; in October 2024 he said he would never turn on it or Overly Draining, calling them 500-level things not worth it46; in 2025 he calls Dehydration 450 plus only, relying on a yellow Keris for HP45. His June 2025 500 run has Dehydration off with Overly Draining on, for pushing 500 without a yellow Keris4147. He otherwise says to avoid Overly Draining at all costs, since adrenaline potions are strong and spec energy matters47.

Boss invocations

  • In 2022 every boss unique invocation was worth using for money except Medic and Overlords (Medic wastes too much time at Kephri; Overlords wastes a little and its scarabs have a 0.5x point multiplier)3127. Double Trouble, Feeling Special and Keep Back are difficult but absolutely worth it if handled27. Feeling Special is one of the few that makes life easier48.
  • Overlords after the 2025 update: the extra Kephri mobs have very low defence, so it used to be bad but no longer is8. It is in his 300 setup49, and the extras can be ripped through even in a 50050. It costs maybe 20 seconds, letting him turn Double Trouble off51. He had called Overlords trolling in October 2024, though an option for harder raids52.
  • Easy-to-learn harder invocations that push past a standard 300: Upset Stomach, Overlords, Aerial Assault, Boulderdash53. Upset Stomach uses the same blockade solves: top left for the first barricades, room middle for the second54. Aerial Assault makes Kephri bombs 3x3 (hitting around 70)3355. Mind the Gap is easy if not standing in the middle when Ba-Ba phases; Boulderdash is handled by killing boulders faster, or waiting until the boulder touches before running3356. Acceleration and Penetration only slightly toughen the Wardens33.
  • Double Trouble makes Akkha much more dangerous; he turns it off for a first fang kit or for money, and also Jungle Japes57. In his June 2025 500 he kept it on, advising practising with Akkha first58.
