Bone dagger is an item topic that Gnomonkey covers in 4 videos between 2022-04-11 and 2025-06-28. This article is a stub: his statements are grouped by type, repeated ones merged.
Methods
- At Nex, one member should send the Bone dagger special right after the team's first hit on Nex for a guaranteed hit that also drains her.1
- On the Warden, Gnomonkey uses the Bone dagger special and then DDS hits several times before swapping to the crossbow.2
- Gnomonkey brings a bone dagger to lower boss defence in Tombs of Amascut; if you spec at the start of the room it is a guaranteed hit, except on Kephri where it is still bugged, and it lowers defence based on what you hit, like a Bandos godsword.3
Stats and numbers
- The Bone dagger has the exact same stats as an iron dagger and is also four-tick like the rapier.4
- The Bone dagger's special attack, Backstab, uses 75% of the special attack meter; if someone else was the last to attack your target (not you) it is a guaranteed hit with the same effect as a BGS, draining defence directly equal to damage dealt.5
- Nex can only be drained to 10 defence levels, and in Gnomonkey's setup the Bone dagger special maxes a 31 due to the team's strength bonus.1
- Gnomonkey estimates the Bone dagger special is roughly 90 to 100 total DPS over a Nex kill because it boosts the whole team's damage, versus around 20 DPS for a ZCB special.1
- A Bone dagger special is about 1% better than a rapier swing because it skips the accuracy check; it effectively replaces a rapier swing and also drains Nex.6
- The maximum Bone dagger drain on Baba is 20, and a hit of 16 is almost the maximum; the bigger the hit, the easier the room.7
Tips
- Gnomonkey calls the Bone dagger special attack a real strategy, not a meme, and says it is actually really good at Nex.8
- If someone is not bringing a ZCB, Gnomonkey suggests they swap their claws for a Bone dagger; even if everyone owns a ZCB he would still have one person bring the dagger.6
- Gnomonkey brings a Bone dagger to Tombs of Amascut for its special attack, using it on bosses such as Ba-Ba and the Warden.9
- The Bone dagger special attack uses 75% of the spec meter and is a guaranteed hit if it is the first hit of the fight, draining whatever you hit.10
- Kephri has a bug where the Bone dagger cannot normally be used on her, but if you use it right as she gets up from the phase and spam click, it is a guaranteed hit and lasts until her health turns red at the end of the fight.11
- Before speccing Baba with the bone dagger, brew up and repot stats to max strength, because the dagger's spec hits low and more strength increases the drain; the defence drain cap is 20.12
- To get a guaranteed hit with the bone dagger at the start of Warden phase 3, it has to be the very first hit you do.13
Gnomonkey's opinion
- Gnomonkey says Backstab is pretty terrible on paper, but against very defensive monsters that cannot be drained much, which he says is basically just Nex and Callisto, it is an incredibly good special attack for one team member.5
- Gnomonkey considers the Bone dagger a much better option than BGS or Warhammer on Nex because of their low accuracy, high weight and low tick speed.6
- Gnomonkey calls the Bone dagger a discount Bandos godsword in ToA, and opens boss fights with its special attack to make bosses squishy.14
- Gnomonkey says it is not worth bone daggering the Warden obelisk because it has too little health to make use of the defence drain, but it is worth it on phase 3 Warden if you have enough health.15
- Gnomonkey says a Bandos godsword is better than a bone dagger because Jagex did not patch the Kephri bug, so it is a straight upgrade if you have one.16
