Vespula is a boss whose portal must be shot down while she tramples the player. Gnomonkey rated her high C tier in March 2022, calling the fight a DPS check against a portal with stupid defence that cannot be drained because it is outside melee distance, and not skilled2. His team does not do the intended method, which is to shoot her down and hit the portal until she gets back up. They cheese her instead, praying Rigor and Redemption and following a tile pattern to shoot the portal4.

By May 2025 the cheese had become a refined routine: flinch in under her from a marked tile, shoot the portal and run back, using Prayer enhance to proc Redemption repeatedly1.

Method

Gnomonkey takes a shot from a green tile at the left corner of the square every time, then cycles by waiting one tick on the tile and going back in78. He runs in as soon as he gets the XP drop and deactivates Rigor so he is never smited while running9. In 2024 he used the Bofa from that tile, shooting again the instant he reaches it, which is difficult and awkward once resort doses are thrown in710. He says the Bofa is better DPS than the Twisted bow at Vespula but is tick-perfect and difficult to use without losing ticks11. In March 2025 he did the whole fight with a crystal bow, needing the three prayer potions he brought, with Hedron noting that it is not many12.

He tells Hedron during the fight that the player has to stall two ticks13.

Safety and Prayer

Her trample has a max hit of eight, and Redemption procs under 10 health, so Gnomonkey says the method is guaranteed safe with unlimited health3. Redemption drains prayer, so he turns off Rigor for the shot, because the other prayer otherwise stays on and drains the prayer point14.

Prayer enhance gives a prayer point every six ticks, and Gnomonkey watches the Enhanced Timer for the whole kill, since knowing when the point arrives lets him waste the fewest ticks15. He recommends using the Cox Editions plugin to detach the timer from the buff meter so the tick is visible816. Players should have 82 Prayer for the method; below that level Prayer enhance restores points a tick slower (a seven-tick timer instead of six)6. Prayer enhance or extra prayer potions made in a Challenge Mode can be used so no prayer potions are wasted2. Vespula drops an enhance potion in the raid, so it is available immediately after the kill17.

He sometimes runs in without prayer and uses Redemption on the way back if it saves ticks18.

Preparation

Before the portal he removes his boots (a boots takeoff where possible), sets his staff to long range, sorts his inventory, drinks Kodai for the mage boost and sips stamina on entering; quick-prayers are swapped to Rigor and Redemption1519. He waits for his overload to wear off beforehand so it does not run out mid-room11.

He brings plenty of food because she takes all his health away, and picks up her potions afterwards to heal up7. After Thieving, he banks most brew, revitalisation and mage switches and keeps the Sanguinesti staff, salve, pickaxe and a fresh stamina20.

Thieving room

In the Thieving room the player must get grubs as fast as possible and keep feeding Vespula, who heals slowly over time whenever she is not eating grubs21. 30 grubs are needed in total, shown by a counter of how many are still needed5. He runs the Lightbearer for consistency but says it can be swapped for a Thieving cape, which at 100 gives a chance at four grubs because it boosts Thieving level; he estimates it as maybe a 20 to 30 second time save and a boost to 110 to 120 if lucky, or no help at all2223. He stresses fast banking here, because bad thieving luck can lose a lot of time24.
