JalTok-Jad (Jad) is a high-defence boss whose fight in the Inferno is built around its healers, which spawn when it reaches about half health. Gnomonkey treats the healers as the part of the fight that actually kills players, and most of his Jad advice is about where to stand so that healers either cannot reach Jad or cannot reach the player.6718
Jad is, as far as Gnomonkey knows, the highest defence monster in the game, at about 480 defence; he also gives 480 and 510 as its magic defence figures.9210 He does not regard the triple Jads as the hard part of the Inferno: they use the same rhythm as a single Jad but faster, and what they test is nerve.11
Attacks and prayer
Inferno Jads are nine-tick, so there are three ticks between each attack, which gives 1.8 seconds per prayer on the triple Jad.3 On triple Jads the three Jads are staggered by three ticks, which he calls an eternity and so very easy; he says to keep Rigour on and stay potted.12 Each Jad's attack is three ticks apart in a one-two-three rhythm instead of a nine-tick rhythm.4
- Only the mage attack has a sound, so he defaults to praying ranged, switches to mage when he hears it, and keeps game sounds on.13
- If a Jad hit lands, he says to keep clicking: catch the next prayer, click brew, repeat. The odds of surviving are very high, and dying while panicking throws away the cape.14
- A Jad can be tick eaten (eat as it hits), but Zuk cannot.15
- Players die more often on the second Jad than on the first or third.16
- Against a Jad hit of unlucky timing, he says not praying melee while running through is the most common death.17
Healers
A single Jad spawns five healers once it reaches half health, and triple Jads have three.61 The spawn threshold is given as below 180 Jad health in July 2025 and 175 in December 2025.1819 Healers only heal Jad if they are right next to it, in melee range; a healer that is stuck behind the player or cannot reach Jad does not heal and does not need to be tagged.2071218 They hit for a maximum of 18 and hurt more than expected, particularly against Crystal armour, which has good ranged defence but poor melee defence.5
Positioning
Healers walk toward Jad's south-west tile, so that is where Gnomonkey stands to have the highest chance of blocking them.61 By December 2025 he describes the standard spot as one tile north-west of Jad, one tile away from its south-west corner: healers heading for the south-west corner tend to walk behind the player and sit there without hitting, which avoids wasting brews on healer damage.22 A healer behind the player also blocks the other healers from reaching them.8
- On the first Jad of a triple, a specific starting tile saves about 30 health compared with starting anywhere in the middle.23
- In speed runs he stands one tile away from Jad so that his bow shot lands in two ticks instead of one, which gives more time to react when the healers proc, then steps into melee range on the shot expected to proc them so that the healer corner traps.18
- Standing far away when sending the shot that will kill delays that shot and lets the player run in to melee distance.2
Corner trapping
Standing in melee range of a lone Jad corner-traps the healer so that nothing can hit the player.24 Standing in the bottom-left spot makes Jads and healers trap each other so that only one can hit; if several healers hit, he backs up.25 After a heal he steps back one tile so that healers trap each other instead of the player tanking two, which can hit for about 30 damage in total.2627
Tagging healers
Casting at Jad hits everything around its south-west tile, which usually hits all the healers on that side.28 Standing north of Jad lets a barrage aimed at Jad tag everything gathered at its south-west corner.29 Equipping a staff and clicking Jad tags healers that are further back.30
Luring healers
If the healers spawn badly, the player prays melee and runs back and forth catching Jad's prayer, waits for the next attack and runs through, which stacks them together.313217 Stacking them keeps them together so the healer lure is not failed.31 Melee prayer must stay on during the lure, which many people forget, because the healers can kill a player who stops praying it.3332 On the first Jad of the Fight Caves, standing in line with Jad's south-west tile and right next to it leaves healers stuck behind the player.6
Healing and supplies
- After killing a Jad he fully brews, restores and re-divines, because then is the best time to heal before the healers arrive.34
- Jads can be stacked and run through to heal, but it is not necessary; he heals off healers and pipe specs.35
- After triples, healers can be lured together to heal off them, and healing off the middle one lets the player heal off Jad too.36
- If at 30 to 40 health after the triple Jads, he brews before Zuk.37
- For the Fight Caves Jad he would not waste a ranging potion dose on the first Jad and keeps it for later fights; he advises not using Rigour if below four restores.38
Inferno wave notes
- On the wave 67 double mage, he gets one mage low (under 39 so it can be killed) before hitting the other, and camps the mage prayer.39
- On the Inferno Jad he stands on a particular tile where, as healers are sent, he can step in and block them almost always, and thinks first-cape players should do this too.4021
- Six hours counts as 36,000 game ticks; the six-hour log-out timer is typically reset by logging out at Jad, and he advises logging out before triples.4133
- A Jad skip, which is also a combat achievement, saves about a minute, and he suggests doing it alongside the Zuk fight.37
