Tekton is the first boss of the Chambers of Xeric in Challenge Mode, and always comes first in the raid4. Gnomonkey describes him as effectively the lobby before the raid, since all the resetting for a fast start happens here6. He is a high-defence boss that Gnomonkey finds fun if the player lands the hammer hits and miserable if not, and in March 2022 he rated Tekton lower B tier78.

Mechanics

Tekton swings every three ticks, and his animation is not accurate: he is always one cycle behind where he looks, so his attacks are not where they appear to be93. This allows two ways of avoiding damage: cycling his hits every third tick, or running around him in a square, which breaks his animation so that he looks like he is hitting without actually doing so10.

The standard method is to get him to swing at the player, bait out a second attack on the side that hits, and then, right before he swings again, swap to the other side of him911. The player should always stay in range and avoid standing on his corners, which counts the same as not being next to him; leaving range as he launches an attack makes him walk back early11. Gnomonkey advises praying melee while learning the fight, and pre-meleeing because he hits hard912. A melee thrall is the only thrall that works against him3. In Challenge Mode his max hit is 87, so a Vengeance cast on the player from an alt can give a lot of value2.

Defence and the hammer

Tekton has 246 defence, and a Dragon warhammer special drains one third of current defence, which is why landing a hammer hit is very important1. Gnomonkey dislikes that Tekton regenerates defence on the way back to the anvil7. When he turns orange in his enraged phase he is much tankier and harder to hit, which is why the Osmumten's fang's ability to cut through defence works so well13. Without a hammer Tekton could take upwards of six anvils, which Gnomonkey calls the biggest time loss in the raid, and for that reason he says to grind the hammer first14.

As of the November 2024 update the first hammer hit is guaranteed, though the second is not2. In May 2025 he said he still resets until he gets two hammer hits, but that this is unnecessary at that scale15. If the second hammer is missed in a Challenge Mode run, he says to leave the raid, since getting back in is fairly quick2.

Speed strategy

  • Getting off the anvil. He runs into the raid on a specific tick to get Tekton off the anvil as fast as possible16. Entering with the Cox Editions timer over his head makes Tekton leave the anvil immediately and come to him2. In 2024 he described running next to Tekton, then to the back of the room, hammering twice and crushing him with his Hasta while running around him17.
  • One-anvil runs. A Challenge Mode speedrun goes for a one-anvil Tekton, which Gnomonkey has heard is a 1 in 4 chance on two landed hammers but requires a lot of resetting, around 10 to 20 minutes of resets before a run gets going1616.
  • Vulnerability. He casts Vulnerability as he moves toward Tekton, draining defence by 10%, then hammers twice and uses a specific attack pattern to get the maximum hits before Tekton returns to the anvil, repeating when he leaves it6.
  • Weapon. He kills Challenge Mode Tekton with the Osmumten's fang, saying it is almost the same as a Scythe of Vitur there because of Tekton's enormous health and defence; he does two hammers into a fang hit for a better cycle18. With a harder-hitting weapon like a Scythe instead of a mace, he notes a last hit as Tekton walks to the anvil8.
  • Hit order. He stays on Tekton for anything under 250 and does the hits in an exact order so everything fits, making Tekton swing twice on each side. Hits of 46 for three hits and 46 for two hits are a good result191920.
  • Shortcut. The room's shortcut can be a rock, a tree or a boulder to push; clearing it gives a few points and is a bit faster14.

The crab room

After Tekton, waiting a tick before the loading zone at the crystal is huge for making the crabs behave the same each time, after which it is an exact set of attacks. If the crystal despawns late, he waits a tick outside it to get the right crab spawn every time2122. He eats a sweet to delay his Twisted bow shot so it lands at the right time, since otherwise it can unlight the crab, then does hammer, cast, hammer, cast22. Because he tanks Avenge on Tekton, he spams as many sweets as possible in the crab room to recover HP21. A falling south pillar on wave 50 and above is not ideal but not a big deal, as the north pillar is the only one that matters23.

Records

Gnomonkey killed Tekton with a dragon mace in 8 minutes 21 seconds during the clue scroll run, and said it was faster than a viewer's seven-to-eight-minute rune scimitar kill from a hundred-K gear challenge, helped by a Dragon Defender and boosting jewellery245. Beforehand he wanted to mace spec Tekton and was unsure the gear could kill him at all25.
