Topics covered
Chambers of Xeric
- (0:00) Gnomonkey's personal best for a solo Chambers of Xeric Challenge Mode is 27:04.20, and the record is 26:38 by Rot Salad (per the video description).
- (0:00) Gnomonkey says Challenge Mode has the highest gear requirements of any content in the game; it is doable without an Inquisitor's mace but he highly recommends having everything else, and calls Twisted bow, Tumeken's Shadow and Inquisitor's mace all incredibly important.
- (0:00) Gnomonkey says it took him about five attempts to get a decent Olm for this teaching stream and that he kept putting the stream off because he felt it was not a good showcase.
- (0:15) Gnomonkey uses True Tile markers on all the crabs and orbs at Tekton so he can tell exactly what is happening.
- (31:52) Gnomonkey considers Challenge Mode as an Ironman some of the worst content ever, though it is doable; he mentions people do tightrope with a locator orb.
- (2:00:24) Gnomonkey uses the Entity Hider plugin with the 'hide dead monsters' option so monsters vanish as soon as you kill them.
Tekton
- (1:28) Gnomonkey says he stays on Tekton for anything under 250 and that doing the hits in an exact order lets everything fit perfectly.
- (1:28) At Tekton, Gnomonkey says you make him swing twice on each side.
- (1:57) Gnomonkey notes hits of 46 for 3 hits and 46 for 2 hits on Tekton as a good result.
- (2:27) Gnomonkey says if the crystal despawns late, you can wait a tick outside the crystal to get the right crab spawn every single time.
- (2:27) Gnomonkey eats a sweet to delay his Twisted bow shot so it attacks at the right time, otherwise it can unlight the crab, then does hammer, cast, hammer, cast.
- (2:30) Gnomonkey says the south pillar falling on wave 50 plus is not ideal but not a big deal; the only pillar you care about is the north one.
Ice Demon
- (3:30) At Ice Demon, Gnomonkey drops his tinderbox and equips an axe in a particular inventory corner, which keeps the inventory in place for banking afterwards.
- (3:30) Chopping the Ice Demon roots/trees happens every five ticks; you can move between trees as long as you are at the tree when you chop, which gives a lower chance of chopping the sapling you want to keep up.
- (4:02) Gnomonkey says you need all but three kindling before you go, so it is roughly two and a half braziers' worth.
- (4:34) Gnomonkey says in a speedrun it is better to have the south pillar gone and optimal to have both pillars gone.
- (5:08) Gnomonkey wants the Ice Demon to spawn at around low four minutes, and he uses the light bearer to spec twice or until he hits.
- (5:39) Gnomonkey's cutoff out of Ice Demon is five minutes when going for a record; if it is slower he would normally reset.
- (34:24) Gnomonkey runs Lightbearer partly because it gives an extra Ice Demon spec, and many of his runs end because he does not hit a hammer on Ice Demon.
Vanguards
- (6:10) Gnomonkey says to flick Rigour a little at Vanguards because you only need a little prayer; it is not an exact science.
- (7:14) Gnomonkey says anything below about 110 on Vanguards is really fast and his fastest is about 50 seconds.
- (7:41) Gnomonkey spams sweets on the way to Vanguards because you need all the health you can get.
- (7:41) For Vanguards, Gnomonkey sets his staff on long range, bow on accurate and scythe on aggressive; with Blood Fury and Brimstone ring instead of Berserker ring (torture) you want it on accurate.
- (7:42) Gnomonkey says to take your boots off for the first hits at Vanguards, and normally to cast at the melee Vanguard.
- (8:11) Gnomonkey's maximum Twisted bow hit on Vanguards is 83.
- (8:11) Gnomonkey says you typically follow the ranger through the whole room and like swinging at a Vanguard when it is below 50.
- (8:45) The numbers above the Vanguards are the health they reset at: if you hit past that number it resets, and once both are at reset the numbers disappear and you just kill them.
- (8:45) At the end of Vanguards, once they are at reset, Gnomonkey follows the melee Vanguard because he can safespot it and be completely safe.
- (9:19) Gnomonkey flicks Masori in Vanguards because Ink (Vanguard) has no defence out of the armour.
- (9:36) Gnomonkey notes his Vanguards time here was 230, calling it the most average Vanguards of his life.
- (32:05) Gnomonkey recommends the Light bearer for an extra claw spec on Vanguards, on Muttadiles and a bunch of hammers at Olm.
Vespula
- (10:19) In the Thieving room, Gnomonkey runs Light bearer for consistency but says you can swap it for a Thieving cape, which at 100 gives a chance at four grubs because it boosts your Thieving level.
- (10:50) In the Thieving room, you need to get the grubs as quickly as possible and keep feeding the Vespula; whenever she is not eating grubs she heals slowly over time.
- (11:20) Gnomonkey says the Thieving room needs 30 grubs total to finish Vespula, and a counter shows how many you still need.
- (11:54) Gnomonkey stresses being fast banking in the Thieving room, because bad thieving luck can lose a lot of time.
- (33:54) Gnomonkey says a Thieving cape is maybe a 20-30 second time save and can boost Thieving to 110-120 if you are lucky, or give no help at all.
Tightrope skip
- (13:25) The basic and most common tightrope skip uses Redemption, low defence gear and tick eating: you click to the crystal, pick it up, click back, next sweep click back across.
- (13:58) On the tightrope skip you use the heal from your health to tick eat on the way there and proc Redemption, which gives enough health to survive the barrage of hits.
- (13:58) Gnomonkey recommends Kirby's guide for tightrope skips because it covers every type of skip thoroughly.
- (13:58) Gnomonkey tick eats a peanut on the way back so it procs; the peanut gnaws all the damage in the queue.
Vasa Nistirio
- (14:49) Gnomonkey says Bofa at Vasa is not the play at all and the rune crossbow is better.
- (16:09) Gnomonkey says you have one Revite for the Vasa floor and that is all you get; if you did not get a revite at Vanguards you only get one from Muttadiles.
- (16:43) Gnomonkey says a really good Vasa is anything below a two-crystal; a one-crystal Vasa is great, and killing it before the second crystal makes it about a minute Vasa.
- (16:43) At Vasa, Gnomonkey says to always be moving when on cooldown; the red tiles he marked are where you get dragged.
- (18:06) Gnomonkey says Void Waker is reduced on Vasa crystals, which makes it bad there, though it would be great on Vanguards.
- (18:06) At Vasa, you drag it over and can flick Masori prayer in between for some defence; between casts you can equip Masori to avoid some damage.
- (19:07) Gnomonkey says to drink brew whenever your overload is about to refresh, every 15 seconds, so you are full health; brewing on the 15s is really important.
Muttadile
- (19:40) Gnomonkey uses a tendril skip at Muttadiles by clicking to a spot so the tendril spawns behind him and he runs straight past it.
- (19:40) The Muttadiles trees work the same as Ice Demon trees: every five ticks, as long as you are chopping when it gets red.
- (20:39) Gnomonkey says Muttadiles is four-tick, so you five-tick step under it exactly like Nex.
- (21:08) Gnomonkey says Muttadiles max hit is 38.
Great Olm
- (22:07) Gnomonkey says the Great Olm in his run was one hand at 100 HP with the Muttadiles floor first, and that normally Muttadiles would look more painful.
- (22:37) At Olm's hand, the numbers show the number of the attack cycle; Gnomonkey hits on three, long range cast on four, then hits on five and resets, a five attack cycle.
- (23:33) At Olm, the big thing with four-to-one is reading two attacks and reacting to what he does; if he does two auto attacks you do a three-to-one.
- (24:35) At Olm, you can tick eat the teleport if you click right after it teleports you.
- (25:02) Gnomonkey says a low two-minute Olm hand phase is good, he has had a couple of 150s and 140s, and his stream phases ran 230, 211 and 230.
- (25:30) At Olm's melee hand, Gnomonkey tanks a hit in the middle because that nulls the flame wall.
- (25:57) At Olm, make sure you attack the tick after he attacks.
- (29:39) Gnomonkey called this stream's Olm about as bad as Olm can go, saying every phase was probably 20 to 30 seconds longer than it should have been.
- (29:39) Gnomonkey uncharges his Tumeken's Shadow to get the runes he needs for Vile Vigor at Olm.
- (29:49) Gnomonkey flicks the melee hand's prayer because you want prayer for Vile Vigor; he uses prayer points for run energy and ended the Olm with 50 prayer points to spare.
Challenge Mode setups
- (32:25) Gnomonkey's beginner-to-intermediate speed setup uses Brimstone ring and Blood Fury, which helps survive Vanguards and Olm, plus a stamina potion.
- (32:52) Gnomonkey says to use one stamina dose at Vespula and keep the three other doses for Olm.
- (32:52) Gnomonkey says Brimstone plus Blood Fury is a max hit threshold setup, and with it you put the scythe on accurate instead of aggressive; he says Brimstone is a little better than Berserker ring with Blood Fury.
- (33:22) An advanced setup skips the stamina: torture plus Brimstone (with Berserker ring) gets to 60 max hit on guardians, and Gnomonkey says you want the accuracy from torture and the max hits from Berserker ring.
- (33:54) Gnomonkey says he used to run a Thieving cape but now runs the Lightbearer because it gets an extra Ice Demon spec, an extra claw at Vanguards and Muttadiles and a bunch of hammers at Olm.
- (34:51) Gnomonkey does not like camping the Light bearer with Blood Fury, saying it costs a lot of max hit on the scythe for little gain; bringing it as a switch makes sense.
