Stats and numbers
- With the purging staff equipped, Mark of Darkness lasts five minutes instead of one minute, covering basically the whole kill.1
- Per the description, Shadow is best in slot on the Yama boss by 3%, because Yama's defence when attacked by the tanking player changes to his enrage stats.2
Tips
- When a Tormented demon's shield is down you can cast a spell, even in melee gear, since you cannot miss, which changes the demon's prayer away from melee so you can keep meleeing.3
- He uses a Purging staff with Mark of Darkness and that any staff works to cast once, but it is especially important if you do not have a Scorching bow yet.3
- Even if you own a Shadow, Gnomonkey still brings the purging staff for one-shotting the orbs.4
- Per the description, you still need the purging staff to nuke the orbs, so you need a three-way swap with mage and Mark of Darkness.2
Gnomonkey's opinion
- Gnomonkey says mage is not worth it against Tormented demons because there is no seven-tick mage weapon (besides Twinflame) and the runes cost a lot, including Mark of Darkness upkeep, even though mage is technically about 5% more DPS than the Scorching bow.5
- Gnomonkey says the purging staff is effectively equal to the Shadow at Yama, with Shadow slightly better only on the last phase.6
- Gnomonkey says if you only have one synapse, make the purging staff, as it is very hard to replace and Emberlight alone is fairly good.7
- Gnomonkey says it is almost not worth coming to Yama without a purging staff and recommends sending Tormented Demons to get at least one synapse to make one.8
- Gnomonkey says synapses are almost the same DPS as a Shadow at Yama and that you should get them, though you can get kills without them.9

Trivia
- Staff of the Dead or Sang are not alternatives, because Yama is effectively a super demon and the purging staff gets demonbane multipliers; his purging staff was hitting around 80.1
