The TzHaar-Ket Breaker is the mega rare in the Raids 4 blog: a crush weapon with a chain attack, based on a fractured chain concept suggested by community artist Hunt OSRS1. Gnomonkey finds the TzHaar name interesting, because the Fractured Archive's other bosses are Guthix or god themed, and speculates it could bring RuneScape 3's ancient god lore into Old School1. Its distinguishing feature is damage rolls that depend on the target's defences, which is why it was repeatedly retuned and is hard to calc67.
Attack styles
- Thrust: five-tick attack speed. Hits up to three targets in a line like a Scythe, and damage scales with NPC size, up to 50% bonus damage on larger targets in the first blog2.
- Smash: a three-tick crush attack that loses the piercing and damage-roll effects of thrust. He expects niche uses against small targets, especially Nylocas38.
The range is not three tiles. It hits three tiles in front of where the player swings, but the attack is made from adjacent and the player is dragged like with a normal Scythe9. It has a very low strength bonus and an insanely high crush bonus6. Like the Scythe of Vitur it must be charged, using Ascension shards from the raid4, plus a rune not yet decided (Gnomonkey guesses nature runes)5.
Damage rolls
The weapon's damage rolls depend on how many of the target's defences are higher than its crush defence, with the highest hit taken6.
| Version | Rolls | Size scaling |
|---|---|---|
| First blog (June 2026) | Up to seven, depending on defences higher than crush; magic and range defence were also compared610 | 25-50%211 |
| Retune (July 2026) | One by default, plus two for every melee defence higher than crush, so five against a crush-weakest NPC10 | 20-40%11 |
| Second blog (30 July 2026) | Two by default, plus one for every melee defence higher than crush, so four against a crush-weakest NPC12 | not stated |
In the first version Gnomonkey explained it with Nex: some of her defences are tankier than crush (like stab), giving six rolls, and the weapon picks the largest. A boss weak to crush would get an extra seventh roll13. The retune stopped comparing magic and range defence, which were nearly always higher and gave two free rolls10. After the retune Nex, weakest to stab then crush then slash, gets three rolls11, and Kephri, half weak to crush, also gets three9.
Performance
In the first blog Gnomonkey expected it to be best in slot on Nex and on Doom of Mokhaiotl, which is weak to crush and would give seven rolls, making melee the meta on both bosses14. He felt it could beat the Scythe on many Theatre of Blood bosses because many of their defences are neutral, though not on Verzik, which he considered a problem Jagex might need to fix14. By July he said the first proposal was disgustingly overpowered and had been retuned to reasonable15.
In his July calcs the retuned weapon is not best in slot over the Osmumten's fang on Nex, where the fang is 6% better16. It is no longer best in slot over the Scythe in any Theatre of Blood room16. At Kephri the fang is quite a bit better9.
The 30 July blog made it a middle ground after it was felt to be too weak. Jagex says it still beats the Scythe against crush-weakest enemies but is more competitive against neutral-defence NPCs, where the Scythe should win out a little1712. Jagex will also lower Nex's crush defence so the weapon becomes best in slot there and benefits from all its rolls18. Gnomonkey notes that even before this it was only slightly better than the fang at Nex, but with the change it should be a heavy buff, worth wearing paper (Inquisitor's) armour to kill her faster19.
Design and appearance
Jagex ran a ranked-choice survey pitting three Tzhaar-ket-breaker concepts against each other, including a blue one with a holy aura and a green one with thorny gothic spikes and a green aura, compared with the original20. Gnomonkey's favourite is the green spiky ball, which he thinks matches the raid a little better, though he would accept any21.
Gnomonkey's opinion
In June 2026 he said the thrust and smash design is much easier to understand than the original fractured chain concept with five, four and three tick styles, and that mega rares need to be strong but simple22. He called it about as good as a new mega rare could be and does not hate it, adding that Jagex smashed it despite his earlier suggestion that they stay away from mega rares23. He liked that it changes how Nex and Doom are approached instead of being just a better Scythe everywhere, and said he would need DPS calcs because it is very hard to calc7.
After the July retune he thought it might be too niche, a mega rare only good against crush-weak monsters, though not terrible and far less useful than before9. By 30 July he liked that it does not completely invalidate the Scythe but becomes usable in more situations than only crush-weak targets24.
