Requirements

  • Gnomonkey's mid-level budget setup includes Pharaoh's sceptre-era gear, a fire cape, Bandos, Torms, Blue Moon gear and Emberlight plus a purging staff as the two key weapons.1
  • Gnomonkey's budget Yama setup uses a cheap max cape, Bandos face guard, Torture instead of Rancour, Berserker ring instead of Ultor, and Arma-style starter gear.2

Methods

  • For budget solo Yama, Gnomonkey brings Blue Moon armour, which has a strength bonus and is best if owned (another armour, transcribed as 'Aaron's', works fine), plus okay mage gear and the Purging staff, which he says is fairly close to Shadow for casting at the boss.3
  • Gnomonkey uses a minor melee switch with Burning claws and Light bearer to get more Burning claw specs off.4
  • Gnomonkey brings lots of food, using Anglerfish and Moonlight antelope; the antelope heals slightly more but slowly over time, and he calls this the highest-healing food available.4
  • Sand fuse cures the poison in the fight, though Restores and Antidote could also be used.4
  • Gnomonkey uses Forgotten brew over the Imbued heart because the heart only boosts accuracy, not max hit of demon bane, but Forgotten brew drains melee, which is not ideal.5

Stats and numbers

  • Per the description, Purging staff is pretty much equal to Shadow in max gear, and Arclight is 5% worse in Bandos than scythe in giga max.6
  • Oathplate is only about 1.3% better than Torva at Yama, per Hedron, so it is not necessary.7
  • Gnomonkey's previous budget kill took about eight and a half minutes, showing accuracy matters a lot in the budget setup.8
  • Gnomonkey estimates the budget gear setup costs roughly 200 million GP, two synapses and mid-level gear.9

Tips

  • Per the description, use Ultor and surge potions work great at Yama; bow and ranged are useless.6
  • Two restores are enough for the fight, bringing three to be safe, with lots of food.12
  • Gnomonkey recommends the Party plugin so duo partners can see each other's spec landings without needing comms.13
  • Forgetting Mark of Darkness drops DPS by roughly 50 percent, which Gnomonkey says was a huge mistake in his kill.14
  • Better mage accuracy from Virtus or Ancestral gear makes a huge difference to budget Yama kills.9
  • Gnomonkey leaves an inventory spot open at Yama to equip claws and avoids food juggling.15

  • Gnomonkey says the scepter is not worth talking about for Yama because you mage so little.16
