Methods

  • In his Inferno speedruns the Venator bow takes the place of an Infernal cape switch; Gnomonkey does not use a spec bar so he cannot currently use claws.1
  • The Venator bow will triple ricochet if a mage is against the west or south side tiles of a larger target; the east and north sides do not ricochet.2
  • Gnomonkey uses the Northeast pillar for the perfect Venator bow setups on waves 1 to 6, then goes back south and melee camps with the scythe afterwards.3

Stats and numbers

  • Gnomonkey calculates the Venator bow maxes 96 with the full 2 ricochets, and still maxes 69 with only 1 ricochet, which is higher than two Toxic blowpipe shots with higher accuracy.1
  • The Venator bow maxes more than a scythe in max melee, and in this setup the full 8-way switch raises his max hit from 88 to 91.4
  • The Venator bow is the highest DPS weapon in the game in almost every case where it gets a triple ricochet, and in this setup it is 35 percent better DPS than a max melee scythe in that case.5
  • The Venator bow maxes a 91 in Gnomonkey's setup (with the ring), which out-DPSes the scythe.3
  • The Venator bow's main benefit is 35 percent more DPS as long as it gets a triple ricochet, which needs the mage on the west or south side of a target.6

Tips

  • You kind of just have to guess with the Venator bow, since you cannot tell where the ricochet hit from the XP drop.8
  • Gnomonkey tries not to pick up Myopia until wave 3 or later when running the Venator bow, because Venator bow is in melee mode otherwise; Myopia, a popular best-in-slot invocation for melee builds, is now less of an option.4
  • A Venator ricochet off an archer under a target is slightly better than scything, so Gnomonkey abuses that.9
  • With the Venator bow, Gnomonkey shoots the higher-health target so the bow can ricochet longer.10

Gnomonkey's opinion

  • Gnomonkey says the Venator bow saves a lot of time in the Inferno but is hard to use, and says it truly saved the day in this run.1
  • Gnomonkey ranks the Venator bow much greater than everything else in Colosseum, the scythe better than the Twisted bow, and the Twisted bow the weakest option but with long range for setups.11
  • Gnomonkey says the Northeast pillar is by far the worst pillar for safety to start from, and that he otherwise prefers southwest pillar starts.3
  • Gnomonkey considers the scythe his second best option compared to Venator bow shots, and uses it mainly to get health back.12
