The Eclipse atlatl is a three-tick weapon whose damage scales with strength level and strength bonus, while its accuracy uses ranged level and ranged bonus, so it is fairly accurate and attacks quickly.314 It does not require ranging potions, so Gnomonkey drinks super strength on Ironmen.3 He values it as a cheap option on Zulrah and, since a 2025 change, at Akkha in the Tombs of Amascut, where he says it makes the raid more accessible and enjoyable than ever.728

Gear

Because max hit uses strength bonus and accuracy uses ranged bonus, hybrid gear with both is wanted, such as Barrows gloves, and a Fury is the best amulet.4 Necklace of anguish is a poor choice: he warns against it, and later calls it terrible and never to be used.910 Pharaoh gloves are worse for this setup, and Fury beats torture or rancour because it has accuracy for range.10 At max stats he shows a 14% difference on the blue phase between the necklaces, with the gap closer if strength level exceeds ranged level.11

For Tombs of Amascut he recommends wearing the full Eclipse armour set as melee gear because it lets the atlatl burn (about 0.7 DPS added, stacking up to five) and gives both ranged and strength bonus; the only upgrades are Primordial boots and Ultor ring.12 Potions: Divine ranging and Divine super combat both help, salts boost both, and he also summons a thrall.13 A Berserker ring (about 5% DPS) or Ultor ring is the switch for Akkha and Ba-Ba, with Lightbearer for the rest of the raid.14 On Zulrah's three-tick timings, use a Bellator ring switch while ranging, because putting it on takes two ticks and those ticks are very important.1

Ranged setup

The atlatl does not get its full burn damage on Zulrah because she purges the burn when going underwater, so it deals only two or three burn splats per phase at most.3 Gnomonkey says the Bofa is roughly 5 to 8% better than the atlatl on Zulrah, depending on levels, and easier to use.15 Zulrah is not the atlatl's best boss, but a Bofa is not required to kill her.7 Most of his Zulrah kill count came with the atlatl, before the Twisted bow.16

Melee setup

He brings it with an Ava's assembler as a two-way.6 The atlatl is needed in the melee setup when Zulrah is behind poison clouds and cannot be meleed, and in some cases it lets a hit fit in.6 At the start of kills, one atlatl dart gives a free hit and lets the player finish the phase with a Crystal halberd spec.17 He starts each phase with an atlatl hit before the halberd, otherwise a full four-tick swing is lost at the end, and he fits an atlatl hit in some phases because some rotations are awkward for melee.1819

Tombs of Amascut (Akkha)

With the Akkha change, a three-tick butterfly is possible with the atlatl, using the same tiles as the four-tick method; he notes there had never been a three-tick weapon outside Leagues, and promised a separate guide.220 The atlatl is about 10 to 15% worse than the Bofa but extremely cheap; Atlatl, Bofa or shadow are the best options at Akkha, and any can do a 500.2

The atlatl setup costs a sixth of the Bofa setup (about 20 mil), has the same DPS on the shadows as the Bofa and is only a little worse on Akkha himself, with the same effectively zero chance of missing a DPS skip.5 He suggests camping the Eclipse set as melee armour for the whole raid, since Ba-Ba no longer has chip damage and Akkha's is reduced, accepting a slight DPS decrease on the Fang.21
