Methods

  • Ascension bolts will be readily obtainable by chiselling down ascension shards from the Fractured Archive, because Jagex concluded the crossbows could not be balanced around existing bolts and their effects.1

Stats and numbers

  • The Ascension crossbows can only fire ascension (fractured) bolts, which can be tipped with diamond or onyx; they cannot shoot ruby bolts.2
  • The Ascension crossbows attack every two ticks, which Gnomonkey describes as like a heavy blowpipe, and enchanted bolt effects have a 50% reduced chance to trigger.3
  • Diamond ascension bolts are a guaranteed hit when they proc and give a little damage bonus, while onyx ascension bolts heal the player.3
  • A 50% reduced proc chance on a two-tick crossbow is still a higher proc chance than a normal five-tick crossbow, equivalent to a two-and-a-half-tick crossbow.1

Gnomonkey's opinion

  • Gnomonkey says onyx ascension bolts will be insanely expensive (an onyx bolt tip is 8k) at two-tick speed, comparing it to dragon darts costing 8k each, but thinks it is fine for the best items to be expensive ammo sinks.5
  • Gnomonkey says the passive onyx healing could be very good for content like the Inferno, and the blog expects the crossbows to be a raid-tier replacement for the Toxic blowpipe.6
  • Gnomonkey says he thinks the Ascension crossbows are the best thing in the blog: a blowpipe upgrade is the perfect raid reward, they look awesome, and he is glad they cannot use rubies because that would be problematic.7
