Telos is a boss topic that Gnomonkey covers in 2 videos between 2022-06-03 and 2023-10-26. This article is a stub: his statements are grouped by type, repeated ones merged.
Methods
- After a Telos kill, the game shows the drop, places it in a loot chest and rolls to increase his difficulty for the next kill by 5 to 20% randomly, called enrage.1
- After a kill you can claim the chest loot and choose the enraged difficulty for the next kill (up to what you have unlocked), or leave the loot in the chest and fight him at the game-set difficulty; if you die in the next attempt you lose a huge chunk of the reward, you cannot teleport out of the fight, and dying ends your killstreak.2
- On a consecutive kill the game checks your current killstreak and Telos' enrage to increase loot, places extra loot in the chest, and rolls enrage again; enrage scales up to a cap of 4000%.3
- After 15 kills into a streak the loss on death caps at 25% of all rewards, so players must decide whether continuing is worth risking a valuable item; Gnomonkey says the loot system is rewarding enough that if you are confident, doing the next kill is always worth it.4
- Elite Telos players spend on far more expensive ammunition and degradable armour to minimise risk, e.g. a Zenite-equivalent gem bolt costing the equivalent of 10k per bolt; Gnomonkey compares this to using Sandfuse in Inferno or sweets in a solo Theatre of Blood.5
Stats and numbers
- Telos dropped the first set of tier 92 weapons; Gnomonkey says OSRS Twisted bow and Scythe would be the equivalent of level 85 weapons in RS3.1
- It took the player base 13.5 months after release to obtain the first 4000% enraged kill; the chest stores a maximum of 200 kills of loot before you must claim it.6
- At 100% enrage on the first streak kill the base chance of a unique is 1/263; roughly every kill after 100 it caps at a maximum of 1/15.7
- Evil Lucario tracked a month with eight successful Telos killstreaks and four failed ones, making 232m gp per hour with about 25m per hour supply cost, which Gnomonkey converts to roughly 46.4m gp per hour OSRS-equivalent with 5m per hour supplies; a third of the loot was not unique but regular loot from the high streak.8
- Telos gets harder with each kill in a row; you can choose to leave your loot in the chest and do another kill, increasing your loot per kill in a row but risking a chunk of the total loot.9
Gnomonkey's opinion
- Gnomonkey says you cannot talk about scaling difficulty in RuneScape without mentioning Telos; he killed Telos only once before moving to Old School, so most of his information comes from a video by Evil Lucario, who he calls effectively RS3's Woox.10
- Gnomonkey calls Telos easily the coolest boss added to RS3, mostly because of his reward system rather than his mechanics.11
- Gnomonkey says the best way to make gp outside of getting a job and buying bonds was to not play OSRS but to do Telos in RS3 and swap the gold over, which he says is not more feasible than a real job.12
Records
- Per a spreadsheet Gnomonkey checked, only 86 people had completed a single 200 killstreak, and only Evil Lucario and Mr. Bob had done a 4000% enrage for the entire 200 killstreak; for most streaks players started at 0% enrage and ended at roughly 2300%.6
Events
- In March 2016 Jagex added God Wars Dungeon 2 to RuneScape 3 with four new generals (representing Saradomin-type gods Seren, Zamorak, Zaros and Sliske) and a final solo boss in the centre, Telos, accessible by killing each general, in a similar way to Nex; Telos was available a few months after the dungeon's release.10
- Gnomonkey's big overarching goal on his RS3 ironman is to get to Telos because he really wants to try streaking him.9
