Methods

  • Before Nylocas Vasilias, the ranger pot shares a three-dose ranging potion, everyone drinks a super combat and prays melee with Piety since the boss always starts on melee; one BGSer drops a single BGS spec then a Crystal halberd spec, since the boss has only 50 defense, while everyone else drops one claw spec and one halberd spec.1
  • Nylocas Vasilias spawns matching the wave colours, always starting as melee, and changes to a different style every ten ticks following the combat triangle; it can only be damaged by the current style and attacks with that style. Its max hit is 70 if not protected.2
  • Attacking Nylocas Vasilias with the wrong style reflects 100% of the damage back at you and heals the boss for the same amount, so attacking off colour with a scythe can quickly kill you. Your character automatically stops attacking when it changes colour, unlike Xarpus.3
  • A beginner strategy for Nylocas Vasilias is to attack it, open the prayer book, change the protection prayer when it changes, then gear switch into the next style and attack, changing offensive prayer afterward; switching protection prayers correctly is always the top priority.3
  • Hard mode Nylocus Vasilias is about priorities and making the best possible move at all times.4
  • In hard mode, hitting the wrong Nylocus damages the player for 8 damage, unlike regular ToB, so spamming Blood Barrage does not work.4
  • Moving a demiboss to a bad tile by accident instantly ends a hard mode Nylocus run, because all the aggro Nylocus can then reach the player.5

Tips

  • For Nylocas Vasilias, DPS is best in the order melee, then ranged, then magic, so improving means never missing hits in your strongest setup; a staff is four tick so two mage hits are easy, versus five-tick scythe or Twisted bow.6
  • Gnomonkey recommends pre-switching at Nylocas Vasilias: after landing hits in the current style, switch the offensive prayer (for example Piety to Rigor after two scythe swings) and gear to the style that would give the most DPS next, so that if it changes to that style you are already ready, then switch the offensive prayer again after your attack.6
  • Gnomonkey still protects the bottom right pillar as in regular solo ToB, because all four pillars dropping kills the player on the spot.4
  • There are three demiboss spawns in the hard mode Nylocus room, and Gnomonkey uses them as cover from Nylocus aggro the entire time, preventing damage without needing to kill them.5
  • The highest priority in hard mode Nylocus is killing any aggro Nylocus, as off-prayer hits from them stack up very fast and can max over 20; Gnomonkey pre-fires any Nylocus coming down that will attack him.7
  • A second priority is killing the small Nylocus and eating the pillars, because a pillar dropping too early sends all the Nylocus after you and you cannot feasibly tank all of them.7
  • Piping Nylocus with the Toxic blowpipe is his top priority whenever possible, as it is by far the best weapon for killing them.7
  • Melee is by far Gnomonkey's best style for DPS in the Nylocus room, so he tosses it a swing when possible.8
  • The boss needs to die at a specific time and be low enough that Gnomonkey can finish it when needed; keeping health high is the last priority, using blood blitz, blood barrage and pipe specs to keep HP up.9
  • When the third demiboss is about to drop, Gnomonkey clears enough Nylocus out of the room for it to spawn, pulling the aggro Nylocus from the fallen pillars to the far end of the room, tanking them, then running through the boss to get them stuck.10

Gnomonkey's opinion

  • Gnomonkey calls the hard mode Nylocus room interesting but probably the hardest thing in the entire game.11
