The Corrupted Gauntlet is a timed prep-then-fight activity in which the player gathers resources and crafts gear in a dungeon before fighting the Corrupted Hunllef. Gnomonkey has covered it since 2020 as a no-gear-cost money method and the source of the Bow of Faerdhinen; his advice changed substantially after the 2026 Summer Sweep-up, which made prep much faster.

Requirements

  • The Gauntlet requires the Song of the Elves quest, which needs many quests and level 70 in most stats (1). In 2024 he adds that decent stats and the three prayers unlocked are needed (2).
  • 2020: at least 85 in all combat stats, a very high Prayer level and Rigor unlocked, since one struggles significantly without Rigor (1). Augury is not needed with his method but may help in an unlucky run (3).
  • 2022: 7.5 completions an hour would not be possible until Magic and Ranged were maxed and Augury and Rigor unlocked (4).
  • 2026: base 80 combat stats is enough for consistent kills and for starting tier one armour; AFKing combat stats first makes it easier (56).
  • Ironmen should try to get Rigor and Augury beforehand, since they are locked behind Chambers of Xeric; Piety with the halberd is great and a Bow of Faerdhinen is not needed that early (7).
  • It has no gear requirement and no death cost (8). Any armour or inventory is allowed on entry, but pets cannot be brought in (9).
  • 2020 recommendation: hardcore ironmen should stay away because death is not safe (10); see Tier 3 prep for hardcore ironmen for his 2026 position.

Overview of a run

  • The player has seven and a half minutes (the maximum) to gather the items needed and then fight the Corrupted Hunllef in the middle of the dungeon (11). If prep time runs out the player is teleported in, or can walk in (12).
  • In 2020 he described the Corrupted Hunllef as one of the toughest bosses in RuneScape, with 1000 health, a max hit of 58 and the ability to protect against the player's attacks (13); he entered with tier three halberd and bow and a full set of tier one armour (13).
  • Gnomonkey compares it to RS2 Dungeoneering (14). The player starts with a scepter that opens rooms, carried to the end (about a mithril mace in bonuses), and a hatchet, pickaxe, harpoon, pestle and mortar and one teleport seed (1415). If the scepter is dropped, rooms cannot be opened (16). The centre has a singing bowl for crafting, a water pump for vials and a range for fish (1716).
  • 2020 goal: tier three bow and halberd, three potions and 25 paddlefish (15). 2024 prep: two tier three weapons, two potions (two vials, 20 shards, two herbs), tier one armour and a full inventory of fish (18). 2026: three prayer potions (two at very high Prayer), a set of armour, two tier three weapons and as much fish as can be held while learning (16).
  • Paddlefish heal 20; a Gauntlet potion restores a flat 30 prayer plus 40 run energy (19). Tier three weapons have far higher DPS than main-game weapons since boosts cannot be used (19).
  • Two tier three weapons are needed because the Hunllef's protection prayer switches to the style being used after six hits (20). A full set of tier one armour lowers his max hit to 13; a partial set does not (21).
  • Total shard needs (2024): 320 shards, or 340 if the staff upgrade is not obtained (22).

Prep guidance

Two-run method (2020). Gnomonkey used two passes through the dungeon. Run one: a C-shape around the start for three ores, wood and wool (tier one armour), paddlefish, a weapon frame, spiders, bats and rats, avoiding high-level wolves, unicorns and scorpions, which always drop a frame (2324). Craft a tier two bow, then the armour with body first, legs and helmet after (25). Run two: demi-bosses (dark beast, bear, dragon) for the spike and bowstring, then the tier three weapons (2627). He did not want the dragon's orb staff because Augury does not boost damage like other prayers (28). Holding an orb when killing a second bear or dark beast guarantees the wanted part; without one it is 50/50 for a piece not already held (29). He spam-clicked the oven to cook in one tick (25).

Tier one prep (2024). As soon as a weapon frame is held, make a tier one staff and two vials (40 shards), since early staff tiers are the best (30). Tier one armour needs three each of wool, ore and bark (31). Tier three weapons need demi-boss materials from the three outer edge rooms (32). Harvest and attack at once, and make a teleport crystal at the bowl before a second trip (33). Vials can be filled from fishing pots; he advises not opening side rooms from the edge (34). Combo food is worse than regular fish, except for hardcore ironmen (35). Examples left three minutes, and about five minutes (3637). He never used tier two armour (38).

Weapons. The halberd has the highest max hit and DPS by a little but is harder because of its one-time range and cannot be spammed while running (39); all three tier three weapons are almost equal (40). In 2026 he considers bow and staff the easiest, the halberd awkward for beginners (41), and always makes a tier two staff early (42). A second dark beast drops the orb rather than a second bow upgrade (41).

Tools and plugins. RuneLite: XP globes off, UI cleaned up, health bars removed, F keys rebound to number keys (9). In 2026: the Gauntlet plugin (resource tracking, tornado true tile), Tile Indicators, CG Recolor (not with HD), and an attack timer metronome (4344); resource counts grey out once satisfied (45).

Tier 3 prep for hardcore ironmen

In February 2026 Gnomonkey described tier 3 prep as a harder prep for an easier, safer fight, mainly for Hardcore Ironmen and for players chasing the combat achievement (4643). Armour makes the boss a standard fight (47). He advised 65 to 70 HP or more to survive one tick of all four tornadoes (which can max 60) (48), and called the halberd an unnecessary risk for hardcores (49).

Tips: harvest with a kick (four-tick) rather than the scepter (54); there are 12 rooms and always six demi-bosses on the three edge sides (55); a triple fish spawn is always next to the boss (56); breaking a demi drop gives 80 shards (57); time is the biggest problem (58). In July 2026 he said tier three armour is only about two minutes faster to prep, recommending tier two for first kills and tier three only for hardcore accounts (59).

Drops and profit

In 2020 Gnomonkey said it should be a better money method than Vorkath because it has no supply cost, but most profit comes from the blades (66). By 2025 he said the Colosseum gives far more GP, and irons need not rush it (67). Armour seeds are worth about ten million each (68).

Speed and combat achievement

The speedrunner combat achievement required under 6:30 (69); Gnomonkey considered it nearly consistent for top speedrunners (70). His fastest kill in 2020 was about 3.5 minutes and slowest near 6 (71). After the Summer Sweep-up the time became 6:05 (72), though he thinks it is easier because prep is so much faster (73). Route: pre-venge, a weapon frame and 70 shards in the first room, tier two staff and two vials, collect three of each resource, kill two demi-bosses (220 shards total), then craft two tier three weapons and tier one armour with four to eight fish (73747576). Target prep 2:30 or faster; his example was 2:03 prep, 3:33 boss, about 5:36 (77).

Bow of Faerdhinen grind

About 400 kills are needed on average for the Bofa (78), and ironmen are only done once they have all the armour seeds (around 300 kill count) (7980). In May 2026 he opposed making it quick, favouring more avenues around it (8182). After the update, he recommends it for an early iron and calls it effectively free money on a main (6).

Summer Sweep-up changes (2026)

The Summer Sweep-up update changed prep as follows.

Gnomonkey considers stackable resources probably the biggest change (91) and tier two now only about a 30 second loss, where before he said never make it at a minute and a half (92). He tested a run 30 seconds to a minute faster, and several minutes faster for tier two or three (93), and worries about bots and seed price (94).
