Methods
- For gear Gnomonkey brings his standard melee gear, with primordial boots normally, and notes you can downgrade to Fighter torso and obsidian legs, dragon boots, Barrows gloves, or an amulet of torture swapped for a fury if you lack money.1
- Gnomonkey's Kalphite inventory with the diary done: Desert amulet, Karamja gloves for retasking Duradel, cannon, holy wrench for prayer restore, optional herb sack, an antidote++ (Kalphites deal 4 poison damage, though you could skip it because you restore), a divine super set, and a spec weapon such as dragon claws.2
- Without the amulet, the next fastest route is a fairy ring teleport to the Kalphite Queen lair and running east; inside the cave run to the northeast section with the soldiers, place the cannon, drink potions, turn on Piety and fight.3
Stats and numbers
- The Kalphite task has a weight of 9 from Duradel and has no requirements to be assigned.1
Tips
- Kalphites are weak to crush, but their defence is so low that a bludgeon is still worse DPS than a whip and dragon defender, according to Gnomonkey.4
- A rune pouch is not needed for Kalphites because their alchable drops are rarer than 1 in 128, and a quest cape and Soulbearer are not necessary since head drops are about 1 in 90.2
- A dragon dagger works fine as the spec weapon and that a bulwark spec should also work decently but he had not tested it.3
- The Kalphite Queen is typically pretty bad for money unless you have incredibly good gear, but you should definitely get a Kalphite task when going for your Desert Elite Diary requirement.5
Gnomonkey's opinion
- Gnomonkey considers Kalphites the second best cannon Slayer task for XP in the game, right behind Dagannoth, at about 65k Slayer XP an hour.1
- Gnomonkey says that since a Desert amulet removes the need for prayer potions, Kalphites are practically just a better Suqah task and an amazing XP task you should always do.6
- Gnomonkey calls Kalphites an amazing cannon task that he always does; they provide little money but upwards of 65k Slayer XP an hour.5
Records
- On a 13-minute Kalphite task Gnomonkey received about 10k GP in loot, the only substantial drop being a brimstone key, while earning 65k Slayer XP an hour, 80k Ranged XP an hour and 90k Melee XP an hour.6
Trivia
- Kalphites have poor drops, cannot drop clue scrolls at all, and in Gnomonkey's words you basically only pick up their rune drops.1
- Kalphites have no superior or other special mechanic; you simply restore using your amulet when you run out of prayer and come back.3
