Contents

Requirements

  • Barracuda Trials unlock at 30 Sailing.1

Methods

  • Barracuda Trials are described as like Hallowed Sepulchre for boats: you race a route picking up cargo as fast as possible and are given a chunk of XP at the end.1
  • In Barracuda Trials you race a course with your boat grabbing crates, with a main objective such as moving rum to another boat, going through the teleporters on the elf city course, or moving jubblies, plus the side objective of grabbing all the crates.2

Stats and numbers

  • Players call Jubbly Jive 'Laggy Lagoon' because it is hard to get over 40 FPS there; Gnomonkey says the frame rates made him sick and he quit Sailing on stream at that point.3
  • Hallowed Sepulchre floors (except the last) have variants, giving about 12 total variants across five floors, plus random teleporter pads and crossbow bolts, which keeps racing for a personal best engaging up to 99.4

Gnomonkey's opinion

  • Gnomonkey likes that Barracuda Trials are an active Sepulchre-style activity where you can chase personal bests, get a bonus for beating a certain time, and optimise routing, boat turning and speed-boost timing.5
  • Gnomonkey says the Barracuda Trial crystal extractor, which gives a speed boost every 60 seconds, sits right next to the helm, so mis-clicking the helm stops your ship mid-race; he suggests the extractor be a button on the Sailing interface like the speed boost.6
  • Gnomonkey personally dislikes Barracuda Trials, calling them super sweaty and like Hallowed Sepulchre for boats, though he understands why others enjoy them.7
  • Gnomonkey says you cannot tell the exact hitbox range of your boat for sucking in crates, so missing one means slowly turning all the way back; he hopes a plugin will show it.8
  • Gnomonkey says Barracuda Trials lack variation compared with Hallowed Sepulchre: crates and boost pads are always in the same spots, there are no race variants, and players always spam the hardest of the three races for the best XP.9
  • Gnomonkey suggests level-locking some of the Barracuda Trial races and giving dramatically more XP as they unlock, instead of unlocking all three races early and spamming the hardest for 30 levels.10
  • Gnomonkey wishes there were more than three Barracuda Trials, because they get stale quickly and visually need more variance between race types.11
  • Gnomonkey says Gwenith Glide has always been the best-XP method, giving over double what Salvaging gives regardless of method.12
  • Gnomonkey says Barracuda Trials were already in a good place, giving more than double the XP per hour of Salvaging.12

Events

  • Jagex said they were not planning XP changes to Barracuda Trials in the week 2 update, citing the hit from the extractor changes and that players keep finding better routes and options like natural trimming.13
  • Jagex said they plan to give Gwenith Glide some extra XP to compensate for the extractor nerf, the only place the extractor XP nerf was partly offset.14
