RuneScape 3 Leagues are limited-time league events for RuneScape 3 that work like Old School RuneScape leagues: boosted XP rates, and tasks that unlock relics at certain tiers, which hugely buff the player (fast mining, woodcutting and catching, up to turning into a literal god).2 Everyone plays as an Ironman, and since Ironman in the base game has no microtransactions, neither do the Leagues.4
Gnomonkey played the first RS3 Leagues for quite a while, streamed it and had a lot of fun, and recommends anyone curious to try it, since the worst that can happen is logging out.5 He nevertheless disliked it in hindsight and did not expect to return.61 The second RS3 Leagues, in 2026, he calls a great experience, very comparable to an Old School league.1 He says he will check out every future RS3 Leagues and hopes RS3 gets a resurgence, but is not sure he will become an RS3 main.7
First RS3 Leagues (2025)
Design
The first league does not include combat masteries or Echo bosses as seen in Echo Leagues; Gnomonkey considers it a simpler, more straightforward league that may suit players easing into RS3.8 There is no region locking, but no extra points were added to compensate, so players have roughly the same point total as in an Old School league across a much bigger game map.9 Some quests auto-complete, mainly the elf questline, but many quest lines, such as the vampire questline, are not auto-unlocked.10
Pace
Gnomonkey says this was RS3's very first league and it showed: progression was extremely slow even after a change cut the points required per relic tier by about 40%.11 On day one he played about 13 hours and finished Dragon Slayer, barely reaching the tier 3 relic out of 7 relics total.11 He estimates tier 3 as roughly 10% of the total points needed for tier 7, and early progress as about 20% of the speed of an Echo League, where a solo player had all relics and combat masteries unlocked by the end of day one.12
The combat relic is tier 5, which he says would take roughly three days of play from the starting point spread, so players do little combat in the first days and mostly skill and quest.13
Gnomonkey's verdict
He did not expect to return to the first-style RS3 Leagues because Jagex were slow on changes and said they could not do much to auto-complete quests; he thought they needed more time to learn from Old School's league mistakes and the hype had died.6 He believed it was RS3's last chance to use a bump in player numbers to demand sweeping changes.6
Second RS3 Leagues (2026)
Gnomonkey calls the second Leagues a great experience because progression is fairly quick, the player feels powerful, and he barely had to do any quests, unlike the first league, which he disliked.1 He did not need a quest helper plugin as in the previous league, so the lack of plugins has not detracted from it.14
Systems
- Relics: his first pick was Golden Touch, which acts like Old School's Sage's greaves, granting Agility XP while running (he reached 99 Agility passively in hour five) and giving much more GP from pickpocketing, leaving him with 200 million coins.15
- Passive tiers: he likes them for their massive boosts, such as Slayer points and Reaper points being five times more common, tons of Dungeoneering tokens, and all skill cape perks unlocked passively for 99 skills.16
- Blessings: combat unlocks called blessings are similar to the combat point systems in Old School leagues.17 Their tasks range from easy ones, such as those tied to a new giant boss called Ivor, similar to Obor, to very hard ones such as defeating Telos at 4,000% enrage or killing a camel warrior needing 96 Slayer.18
- Resets: up to four resets of choices are allowed, as in Old School Leagues, so builds that do not work can be changed.3
Builds and combat
RS3 builds are very strong in Leagues, so a player does not need to be good at combat to try things, and abilities are added gradually as the player levels, which Gnomonkey says makes the ability bar less overwhelming.19 His own build was a Drygore mace with a shield and heavy tank armour: the more defence he had, the more damage he dealt through blessings, supported by empowered defensive abilities such as Bash and an AoE Reflect.20
Group content
Led by RS3 streamer RS Guy, along with Foe, Kirby and Sick Nerd, Gnomonkey cleared a 4,000% enrage Amascut in RS3 Leagues, which he calls the hardest group content he has done in either game.21
Complaints
His major complaint is that unlocking the final region needs about 120 tasks, there are too few easy bulk tasks in each region, and unlocking areas can be a slog.22 At launch, chaotic pop-ups and sounds blocked the settings; this was a real bug that Jagex fixed, and he joked about it as a meme.23
Resources and plugins
RS3 does not have plugin support yet. Alt1 scans the screen but is not a hooked plugin, and Jagex is planning to release plugin support in a couple of months.24 For learning the league, Gnomonkey links the guide he used for the first six hours and RSGuide.com by RS Guy, which explains how RS3 systems work.25
