Summary

A guide to the new Gauntlet and Corrupted Gauntlet speed combat achievements after the Summer Sweep-up shortened the times. Gnomonkey walks through reset-heavy prep routes, tick manipulation tricks, the 'five to one' weapon-swap method needed for the regular Gauntlet, and Redemption flicking at the boss. He thinks the regular Gauntlet time is now harder while the Corrupted Gauntlet time is easier.

Topics covered

The Gauntlet

  • (0:00) After the Summer Sweep-up the regular Gauntlet speed time combat achievement is 3:45 instead of 4:00.
  • (0:00) Gnomonkey thinks the new regular Gauntlet speed time is much harder than it used to be and rough, even though the Corrupted Gauntlet time is easier.
  • (1:00) For the regular Gauntlet speed time Gnomonkey makes no armor, because Hunllef's max hit without armor is only 12; he makes one tier three weapon plus one tier two weapon and uses the five to one method.
  • (1:30) For regular Gauntlet speed, the prep goal is about four to eight fish, one potion, no armor, one tier three weapon and an extra weapon; you reset constantly, for example if the first room has no monsters.
  • (1:30) In the regular Gauntlet speed run, Gnomonkey kills one mob in the first room for a weapon frame and at least 50 shards, makes a tier two staff, and if he has 70 shards also makes two vials.
  • (1:59) If the demi-boss at the edge room is a bear and you have no extra weapon frame, Gnomonkey usually resets, because you need a halberd and the extra frame for the five to one method.
  • (2:29) Regular Gauntlet speed route: kill the demi-boss opposite the boss, pick up its item, teleport back, make the tier three weapon and the extra weapon if needed, cook your fish, make your potion and go in.
  • (2:58) Gnomonkey pre-venges (Vengeance) before entering both Gauntlet speed runs and uses the vengeance on a demi-boss, since the venge damage carries into the Gauntlet for some bonus damage.
  • (2:58) Gnomonkey prefers the closest first room in the speed Gauntlet; killing all three mobs is fine, but leave the room once you have 70+ shards.
  • (3:58) Gnomonkey says you only need one herb and one vial for the regular Gauntlet speed method (two herbs only if making two potions); a second vial is a bonus for extra Redemptions.
  • (9:55) Gnomonkey's example regular Gauntlet run finished in 3:26 against the 3:45 speed time.
  • (9:59) Gnomonkey says regular Gauntlet boss kills have a lot of RNG, ranging from about 1:30 to 2:30, and with only tier one armor he is so inaccurate it may take several tries; he does not expect the speed time on the first attempt.

Corrupted Gauntlet

  • (0:00) After the Summer Sweep-up the Corrupted Gauntlet speed time combat achievement is 6:05 instead of 6:30.
  • (10:33) Gnomonkey thinks the Corrupted Gauntlet speed time is a little easier than before, even though it is 25 seconds faster, because the prep changes made it so much faster.
  • (10:33) Corrupted Gauntlet speed route: pre-venge, then in the first room get a weapon frame and 70 total shards, which you need to make the two vials; the three small mobs in the first room almost always give at least 70 shards.
  • (11:38) Corrupted Gauntlet speed route: make the tier two staff and two vials at the singing bowl, then fill the vials and go to the edge room opposite the boss, collecting three of each resource for tier one armor along the way.
  • (12:05) Corrupted Gauntlet speed route needs two demi-bosses killed, a total of 220 shards and a weapon frame; killing a higher tier mob such as a wolf or scorpion usually gives enough shards.
  • (12:31) Before entering the Corrupted Gauntlet boss for the speed run, teleport back, make two tier three weapons and tier one armor and cook four to eight fish; Gnomonkey says never take more than eight fish because needing more means the run will be too slow.
  • (13:01) Gnomonkey's target for the Corrupted Gauntlet speed prep is a 2:30 prep or faster; his example had a 2:03 prep and a 3:33 boss kill, finishing around 5:36, about 30 seconds ahead of the 6:05 speed time.
  • (13:41) If the vial filling pump is right next to the boss on the opposite side, wait to fill vials later; if the pump is up against the opposite room, fill them right away.
  • (15:04) Gnomonkey says demi-bosses drop five fish whenever they drop fish, so you will probably get all the fish you need from demi-boss drops, and he would not collect fish in the first room.
  • (15:04) In the Corrupted Gauntlet speed run, not finding the needed resource, herb or second demi-boss while running around means you should reset.
  • (16:02) Gnomonkey avenges a demi-boss and then eats to full health (99) before entering the Corrupted Gauntlet boss, since this is tick-free healing.
  • (16:02) For the Corrupted Gauntlet speed time you do not need the five to one method or a single tier three weapon; you simply use two tier three weapons and maximise ticks while using Redemption when convenient.
  • (21:07) Gnomonkey says the Corrupted Gauntlet speed CA took him only one attempt for the footage and he still had a lot of wiggle room, so he thinks it is much easier than the regular Gauntlet time.

Five to one method

  • (5:55) Five to one: every sixth attack you do on Hunllef changes his prayer, so with your best tier three weapon you attack five times, then use a different weapon (such as a halberd kick) on the sixth to change his prayer back, keeping him from ever praying against your best weapon.
  • (6:22) Five to one uses a bow for five attacks, a halberd for the sixth when he is praying melee, and the bow's sixth attack to switch him back to range; this gives maximal uptime on one tier three weapon so you do not need two tier three weapons.
  • (6:54) Gnomonkey says you basically have to do five to one for the regular Gauntlet speed time, but not for the Corrupted Gauntlet speed time.

Redemption

  • (7:20) Gnomonkey's regular Gauntlet speed boss fight stays near the boss and lets health drop until it is 21 or lower, then flicks Redemption so an attack that drops him below 10 triggers the heal.
  • (7:20) In the regular Gauntlet Hunllef's max hit with no armor is 12, so at 12, 11 or 10 health you should eat rather than go for a Redemption, unless you have no fish left.
  • (16:27) In the Corrupted Gauntlet Gnomonkey says the boss max hit is 13, so at 13 or lower you must eat, and you start flicking Redemption between attacks when you are at 22 health or lower.
  • (16:57) Stay within one or two tiles of the boss when going for Corrupted Gauntlet Redemptions, because his projectile travel time depends on your distance and being next to him makes the hit land instantly, giving you more time to put prayer back up.
  • (19:58) Gnomonkey advises only going for Redemption when tornadoes are up if there is a good distance to the tornadoes; otherwise focus on eating.
  • (19:58) Ideally take a prayer potion sip after a Redemption, and flick prayer to keep your prayer points if you can get another Redemption.
  • (23:25) Click Redemption as soon as you see Hunllef's attack animation start; this works even against the attack that turns your prayer off.

Tick manipulation

  • (3:26) Gnomonkey uses the weapon attack timer metronome so that, as soon as the attack counter ticks from one to zero, he catches a fish; attacking and fishing alternately saves roughly three ticks per fish.
  • (4:30) You can also tick manipulate fishing from range with a staff against a demi-boss, and filling a vial at a fishing spot can be used to three-tick a fish; all his tick manipulation saved around 20 game ticks.
  • (8:35) When you have lost ticks (gone into negative on the attack timer), eating a piece of food lets you reclaim them; Gnomonkey has a short video on how to eat in Old School RuneScape.
  • (9:33) Tick eating: eating as an attack lands when you are very low lowers the boss's max hit to your current health, which saves damage.
  • (17:32) Gnomonkey recaptured three game ticks in a Corrupted Gauntlet run by eating before switching weapon and attacking instantly after the style swap; he says to use fish to recapture lost ticks when you make a mistake.
  • (24:30) In the Corrupted Gauntlet, the weapon attack timer is very useful for speedrunning, especially for tick manipulating resource gathering.

Corrupted Hunllef

  • (8:10) To dodge Hunllef's tornadoes in the Gauntlet, move in straight lines, because they travel straight before moving diagonally towards you on the last step.
  • (16:55) In the Corrupted Gauntlet you can step directly onto tornadoes when they are next to you, similar to Hydra's lightning skip, then click one tile out and run in a straight line away from them.

RuneLite

  • (22:07) Gnomonkey recommends the Gauntlet plugin for the total resources needed for your speedrun type, with true tile on the tornadoes, the CG recolor plugin, the weapon attack timer, and the CG performance tracker to see if you missed the speed time through mistakes or bad luck.
  • (23:07) Gnomonkey advises recording your runs, reviewing the footage for mistakes, and posting them in his Discord for review; he is happy to look at them on stream.
