Deadman Mode is the PvP-focused game mode that Gnomonkey played in 2026, first in the Deadman: Annihilation season and then as a member of the Deadman All-Stars roster, a streamed week of play that ended in a live finale in Chicago239. He came to it as a self-described rookie to PvP and a PvM master10. His verdict on Annihilation is mixed: he loves Yama's chaos and thought the brackets were well balanced, but considers the points system a grind, the chests a lame addition and the sigil menu horrendous1111121314. His own All-Stars team, the Odablock Warriors, had a very bad start, a comeback, and a loss in the finale8159.

Deadman: Annihilation

Brackets and immunity

In Annihilation, players are placed in combat-level brackets. Once a player reaches a certain combat level they are booted from the world, cannot gain XP, and can access the bank only a few times before moving to a new world for a different bracket4. Each new bracket entered gives one hour of immunity in which no one can attack the player; Gnomonkey enjoyed min-maxing it, spending his on Barrows, getting nothing, and then starting to kill people5. Brackets enabled pure and other builds, and he had fun in the level 60 to 80 bracket, though he heard the 1 to 60 bracket became horrible after a few days from pker camping5. He felt the brackets were pretty well balanced even though many players complained11.

Points and sigils

Deadman points work like Leagues points and are spent on sigils, such as an instant crop-harvesting sigil or a sigil giving one tick faster mage attack speed, and on unlocking things like Ancient Magicks and Barrows gloves6. All sigils in Annihilation are bought with points from a sigil shop, whereas Gnomonkey thinks they previously dropped from monsters16.

Source Points
Level-up 517
Player kill 5 per kill, up to 100 kills18
One point of damage on a breach boss 1 (top 16 damage dealers only)1917
Other sources Combat achievements, regular diaries, levelling stats, clues18

A player kill is worth roughly one level-up, which Gnomonkey says is poor when XP rates are ten times normal18. A sigil makes clues a single step, and the best method for points is skilling, raids (ignoring purples for combat achievements) and clues18. He calls this grinding boring and not dangerous, like Leagues but in a PvP game mode12. He still considers points essential, because without them a player cannot keep up when moving up brackets: others attack faster, have much higher accuracy and unlimited prayer points20.

Breach points were meant to be one point per point of damage dealt, but only the top 16 damage dealers receive any, which Jagex did not mention when marketing it. With over a thousand players at breaches, reaching the top 16 was very hard, so breach points were barely obtainable1921. Jagex said on the Wednesday that it planned to raise the cutoff to the top 100 players, which Gnomonkey says is still not many given the crowds22.

The sigil menu is the most used menu in the mode, and Gnomonkey calls it horrendous: it is not alphabetical, sigils appear in random order, the filters are haphazard and there is no search. He says it needs a search function, more filters and proper sorting, as finding a sigil like Litheness takes around 30 seconds to two minutes of scrolling1423.

Breaches

Breaches spawn many random bosses roughly every seven hours (as Gnomonkey recalls). Killing them gives PvP-helping drops such as emblems and supply drops, plus points1. The big addition was Yama, who spams meatballs that one-shot players; Gnomonkey calls them maybe the best addition to any Deadman mode ever and loves the chaos of players wiped out in droves1111. On day one or two his client lagged so badly he could barely move, and the meatballs turned invisible because of the number of players, killing people with invisible meatballs22.

Chests

Deadman chests are announced in chat. A player opens one by sitting at it doing a thieving-style opening animation for 60 seconds, after which they get strong loot, which can include the Dragon sword and the Khopesh2024. Gnomonkey says basically only players with ultimate-level setups or Giga Max risks bother, since sitting defenceless for 60 seconds is dangerous. He considers the chests a lame addition and says most players ignored them because the loot was not worth the trouble2413. Two exploits are described: a bug let players log out underneath the chest and log back in inside it, where they could still open it and no one could hit them, and players arrived with around ten alts and shot anyone opening the chest with bone crossbows, so whoever had the most alts won the chest2526.

Deadman Mode Allstars (June 2026)

Gnomonkey announced on 27 May 2026 that Deadman Mode was coming at the beginning of June and that he was participating. On 29 May he said he was on the Deadman All-Stars roster and would be on stage in Chicago in the middle of June, with streams for the whole week23. The event involved 120 hours of streaming over a week, and he wanted to give full context because many viewers jumped between streams and clips27. His team was the Odablock Warriors89.

Breach strategy

For the fifth breach the Odablock Warriors used a calculated redemption plan from Evscape, with Odablock as main caller, Raikesy as secondary caller, and Dubie Dobies and Gnomonkey as snipers8. The team aims to be the MVP on each monster so that tier five loot goes to them28. Tactical notes from the breaches:

  • The music lulls when there are no monsters, signalling that the team must wait for the next spawn29.
  • Monsters can aggro unexpectedly, so the team stands on tiles with line of sight so they can shoot from safe positions30.
  • When luring a monster, do not mage it too early because the team wants to keep it in their position; if a teammate does mage it, use blood spells31.
  • Dragging monsters north toward single-combat tiles improves a player's odds of living, since rival teams cannot gang up there32. A single-combat tile also means the player standing on it cannot do damage, so Gnomonkey offered to take aggro and tank while teammates dealt damage33.
  • An area far east of the fairy ring is out of range of the Hunter's Guild, where the Dino Nuggets bank, so monsters pulled there can be farmed with less risk34.

Escapes

In the first breach of Deadman Mode Season 3, Gnomonkey escaped a chase but was frozen by a Westham Weasels player who teleported in on him35. Advice from that episode: with three minutes left on a skull he could return with his tier five sacks and become stronger again36; a teammate suggested the team keep committing to random targets so the chasing clans cannot concentrate on one player37; he was told to wait out his skull before teleporting38; Validor teleports are free for teleporting back in39; and after an escape the team can use a home teleport once the pursuers give up, logging back in and teleporting after the one-minute window40. When Gnomonkey ran out of teleport charges and could not teleport or log off while chased, he stalled the enemy while the rest of the team moved41.

Breach 5 and the Inferno mission

The Odablock Warriors won the fifth breach after a starting plan that went badly and strategies that did not work left them with 40 deaths over a few days, which the description calls the worst start in Deadman history8. When the Westham Weasels rushed, Gnomonkey made the call to do a full tank so teammates could escape and farm more tier fives. He lost the trinket but said he earned points for prayers42.

The team had no gear for the whole week, which Gnomonkey says made the Inferno mission extremely dangerous43. The team had agreed beforehand to take a Corrupted Void Waker as the reward44. He did not know whether the mission needed only the kill count or the Fire cape too, hoped it was not both because the team does not share the cape, and was glad the kill count was enough; the team confirmed it registered after Zuk died4546. After the kill, a teammate told him not to celebrate on the spot but to go to Draynor, then grab a ring of returning and go to the Grand Exchange, because enemy teams were coming47. In hindsight he says the Corrupted weapon was not really worth the risk, but the moment itself made it worth it. He hoped the run would redeem the team's last breach4348.

Finale and review

Before the finale, Gnomonkey said his team was not in the best standing but had a big comeback, with lower odds than the Westham Weasels but a genuine shot at winning. He planned to practise hard and then make a video on his thoughts as a PvP rookie and PvM master, plus an overall review1510. His team did not win the finale in Chicago9.

Details from the event as he reports them on 25 June:

  • The 120-hour play cap over eight days meant 18-hour play days for his team versus about 14 hours for other teams, plus 20 to 30 hours logged out discussing plans, for an estimated 150 hours total7. He streamed 18 hours a day on usually two to four hours of sleep, lost 13 pounds from stress, and fell asleep face down on the carpet for three hours after the last day49.
  • Players voted on a stream delay and voted no. Gnomonkey voted no but says he would vote yes next time, even for a three-minute chat delay50.
  • During the victim mission a ref made a bad call and everybody killed someone who did not have the totem the ref claimed they had, and Mammal was punished for dropping the totem. Gnomonkey says refs let captains decide punishments, that captains should not, and that all teams should have been punished equally5152.
  • At the Varlamore breach the Odablock Warriors held a very solid position, lost a couple of people to the Westham Weasels at the end, and got many tier five totems, finally getting Odablock and Dubies their prayers53. In the Victim Has It mission they sat on the outskirts casting barrages at clumps of players and still had all five alive at the end, and Perp stole the VLS54.
  • Odablock killed Lake in the last hour of the week, which got the team six blood money for brews and venge trinkets. Gnomonkey says he saved the team about 10 of their 40 blood money by pulling prayer scrolls from Chambers of Xeric55.

Other events

A challenge's final duels were run as singles like Deadman All-Stars, between two teams of two; participants say Deadman All-Stars is a lot of fun and they cannot wait for the next one5657.
