Methods

  • Gnomonkey describes the Awakened Leviathan fight: he drops a larger pile of rocks each roar filling the arena over time, mistakes punish you for around 50 damage, after stunning he drops ten rocks on your location each tick, at 50% HP he spawns a tornado that follows you like P3 Verzik and hits 50, and at 20% HP he spawns a damage orb and relentlessly hails one-tick prayer orbs.1
  • The final phase of Awakened Leviathan requires about 600 damage to Leviathan while avoiding the tornado, flicking prayers each tick, staying inside the orb to avoid 25 chip damage per one-tick orb, and attacking fast enough that falling rocks do not fill the arena.2
  • Awakened Leviathan's attacks ramp up throughout the fight, getting faster until they reach the point where the engine cannot fire them any faster, at one tick per attack orb.3
  • At Awakened Leviathan the prayer must be active on the exact same tick an attack is fired to block it, which Gnomonkey calls zero tick because it effectively gives less than a tick to react.4
  • For Leviathan Gnomonkey filtered the unique sound cue for each of the boss's attacks, placed the Visual Sounds ID box directly over his prayers to minimise eye movement, and used Sound Swapper to replace each cue with the sound of the equivalent offensive prayer.4

Gnomonkey's opinion

  • Gnomonkey calls Awakened Leviathan genuinely the best addition to the game since Theatre of Blood and the hardest piece of content Jagex has ever intentionally added, yet fair and not reliant on heavy RNG.1
  • Gnomonkey says the final section of Awakened Leviathan is far harder than Sixjad (the six-Jad challenge), and that completing it is far harder than any combat achievement, probably harder than a pillarless Inferno or solo Theatre of Blood.5
  • Gnomonkey says the Awakened bosses are a complete waste of money to fight, since they only give Blood Torva cosmetics; his reward for killing Leviathan was 51 rune arrows, and even when orb prices fall they would never recoup the orb cost.6
  • Gnomonkey says he hopes Jagex adds scaling content that is truly rewarding at the top end, imagining Leviathan lucrative to kill if killed consistently, and suggests that with a 1/10 to 1/20 chance of the rare table the 2.5 million entry cost would be worth it for consistent players.7
  • Gnomonkey says Awakened Leviathan is not as difficult as a 4000% Telos in RS3, which took 13 and a half months to be killed for the first time, but that it is a step towards that and gives him hope for good PvM updates.8
  • Gnomonkey says Leviathan is currently the only boss where an attack has to be caught within the same tick, making that the only time Visual Sounds is really useful.9

Records

  • Gnomonkey finished Awakened Whisperer in two orbs and the Awakened Duke in seven or eight orbs, taking seven and a half minutes to kill the Duke, who he finds more awful than the normal variant.10
  • Gnomonkey needed 12 orbs for Awakened Vardorvis, finding it surprisingly decent with a lot of precise rapid clicks required, but not the challenge he hoped for.11
  • Gnomonkey needed 40 orbs to kill Awakened Leviathan, which he says is far fewer than most players took.12
  • Gnomonkey used the Visual Sounds plugin on stream to attempt killing Awakened Leviathan without stunning him with Shadow Barrage, which he calls one of the hardest challenges in all of RuneScape.3
  • After roughly 10 hours of attempts and 16 hours of total practice, Gnomonkey got Awakened Leviathan's health down to 44%, spending roughly 600 million GP on orbs.13
