Tightrope skip is a mechanic topic that Gnomonkey covers in 3 videos between 2023-02-02 and 2024-10-27. This article is a stub: his statements are grouped by type, repeated ones merged.
Methods
- The tightrope starts the instant Vespula dies; Gnomonkey must be prepared for the Kirby skip while running to the rope, picking up Vespula's potions, swapping into melee gear to hold them, and activating Rapid Heal before his true tile passes a set tile.1
- Gnomonkey uses brews and sweets to get his HP barely over 50, then overloads to drop to 1, 2 or 3 HP; this must be done before reaching the rope or the run is over, and because sweets heal a random amount RNG can ruin it.2
- At the rope he activates Redemption before or as he crosses, which heals enough to survive the barrage, grabs the crystal, clicks the rope, clicks a sweet to tick eat and equips a necklace while clicking the rope to cross back so the necklace nulls all the damage.3
- The basic and most common tightrope skip uses Redemption, low defence gear and tick eating: you click to the crystal, pick it up, click back, next sweep click back across.4
- On the tightrope skip you use the heal from your health to tick eat on the way there and proc Redemption, which gives enough health to survive the barrage of hits.5
- Gnomonkey tick eats a peanut on the way back so it procs; the peanut gnaws all the damage in the queue.5
- For the normal-mode rope skip Gnomonkey prays ranged and augury (or piety if no augury) for max defence.6
- Gnomonkey wears a Phoenix necklace and prays ranged and defence, crosses the rope, procs the necklace at the other end, grabs the crystal and comes back, putting on a necklace before crossing and moving very quickly.7
Stats and numbers
- When a Phoenix necklace procs, all the damage coming at you that tick is deleted, since the first hitsplat procs it and the rest vanish, so you can delete all the damage from the rope.6
- You need at least 23 health before crossing since the max hit from the rope guys is 22, and there is about a 5 percent chance on any given rope that it fails because a small hit might not proc the necklace and then a max hit kills you.8
Tips
- Clicking to a specific tile before the entrance gets you to the rope a tick faster and dodges the loading line at Vasa.2
- The skip is fairly easy with practice, but if you mess up the run is completely done; he kept failing because he ate the sweet and equipped the necklace before clicking to the rope, which someone in chat pointed out.3
- How the skip is done changes depending on whether you have two or three HP; he links Kirby's guide for it.9
- Gnomonkey recommends Kirby's guide for tightrope skips because it covers every type of skip thoroughly.5
- The Chambers tightrope skip in normal mode starts from near the entrance and uses rapid heal; for solo he says the typical setup is two Phoenix necklaces, and he practises with an inventory full of necklaces and healing items.10
- Gnomonkey warns that if the Phoenix necklace procs early you start walking the rope without a necklace and take around 800 damage when you exit, so you need it not to proc early.11
- After crossing you run to the gate and spam brew because you still tank the hits.12
- If you are really healthy you should wait on putting the necklace on until you come back, and that the XP drop is the cue the instant you can click the crystal; you must wait on the crystal for a tick because there is a delay and you must actually grab it.13
- His cue on the way back is: true tile update, click the Phoenix necklace, click the rope.14
