Requirements

  • Gargoyles require 75 Slayer to damage and a rock hammer to finish off.1

Methods

  • Gargoyles are in the Slayer Tower, reached fastest with a Slayer ring or by running north from fairy ring code CKS; with a task Gnomonkey recommends the basement, which requires a task, and if crowded or without a task the roof can be checked.2
  • Gnomonkey drinks a dose of super combat, turns on piety and fights Gargoyles; with poor defence or worse gear protect from melee may be necessary as they can hit quite hard.3

Stats and numbers

  • Gargoyle tasks easily pull in over 1 million gp an hour, with a decent 30k Slayer XP an hour and 100k melee XP an hour.1
  • The Abyssal bludgeon gives about 4% more DPS than a whip against Gargoyles.4
  • Gargoyles have a superior, the Marble Gargoyle, which has melee and ranged attacks as well as a special attack; Gnomonkey recommends protect from melee and tanking the ranged attack.3
  • The Marble Gargoyle's special attack is a slow-moving red and gray orb that can be avoided by walking one tile away; if it hits, the max is 38 and it freezes the player in place.3
  • A Konar-assigned task can be expected to give one to two brimstone keys per task.5
  • Gnomonkey got 28k Slayer XP an hour and 100k melee XP an hour on Gargoyles and says to expect a bit more with a bludgeon.5

Tips

  • Gnomonkey recommends unlocking Gargoyle Smasher for 120 Slayer points from a Slayer Master, as it automatically finishes Gargoyles below 9 HP and makes the task much more AFK.4
  • Gargoyles drop many alchables, so Gnomonkey says the alchemy runes in a rune pouch are very important; they do not drop herbs so the herb sack can be skipped.6
  • With worse gear or stats Gnomonkey would do Gargoyles in two trips with divine super combats and fewer prayer potions, as the Slayer Tower is close to a Slayer ring teleport.7
  • Gnomonkey uses Woox's aggression plugin in RuneLite to make Gargoyles more AFK, since he does not have to worry about them becoming unaggressive.2

Gnomonkey's opinion

  • Gnomonkey says an inquisitor's mace is the best weapon against Gargoyles because they are weak to crush, but asks why you would fight Gargoyles if you could afford one; a bludgeon is next best and a whip is perfectly acceptable.1
  • As of recently Gnomonkey skips gargoyles on his account: early on they are amazing AFK money but terrible Slayer XP an hour.8
  • For an account with the gear and stats to do a boss like Vorkath or Zulrah, Gnomonkey says the 1m GP an hour of gargoyles is no longer worth bothering with, though they can be nice to AFK and there is no shame in doing them.9
  • Gnomonkey says the Granite hammer gargoyle change is not a huge deal but is nice on an iron or main for early gargoyle tasks, and likes the flavour.10

  • The full Gargoyle task took Gnomonkey about 40 minutes and gave 650k gp in loot plus two brimstone keys, because he was on task from Konar.5
