RuneScape 3 (RS3) is the other RuneScape game, which Gnomonkey played long before moving to Old School RuneScape. He mained RS3 and had a max cape, then moved to Old School in about 2017 because of a lack of updates and wanting plugin support.1 His opinion changed across the videos: in 2023 and 2025 he praised its endgame PvM but disliked its dailies, and in August 2026 he called it a really enjoyable game and not total garbage, with big flaws that Jagex has been polishing for the last year.3456
Endgame PvM
In 2023 he said RS3 receives update after update for its endgame PvM while the best OSRS players are left kicking sand.3 It has loads of non-raid endgame PvM, including three Elite Dungeons mini-raids tied into Dungeoneering, which are Diablo-style dungeons ending in a huge final boss.7 It also has multiple difficult raid bosses (Kalphite King, Vorago, Barrows: Rise of the Six, Solak and Zamorak) and difficult solo bosses including Araxxor, Zuk, Arch-Glacor and Telos, whereas OSRS only has Nex and Nightmare as similar content.8
Telos has a risk mechanic: the player can leave loot in the chest and do another kill, raising the loot modifier but risking the stored loot, with difficulty rising each kill up to 4,000%. Arch-Glacor has a similar Rage Meter.9 He says that, despite problems like microtransactions and dailies, and with no polls, the developers have total freedom to make cool endgame content, and that OSRS should take ideas such as Telos streaking and raid bosses and implement them with the old school touch.10 In 2025 he added that Evolution of Combat has improved since launch and the high-tier PvMers are impressive.4 In August 2026 he said he had now finally experienced some of its endgame.5
Differences from Old School
From his August 2023 return to the game:
- The interface is completely scalable and can be arranged however you want, and the whole skybox can be changed, with options like an eclipse and shadow-world skyboxes.1112
- The Wilderness is effectively removed (PvP no longer exists); skilling Wilderness flash events start at the top of every hour via the Edgeville Wilderness lodestone.13
- Run energy is almost irrelevant: it can be recovered with a Musician and there are no stamina potions.14
- Players can look into the distance and spot landmarks like the Dominion Tower, which he says is not a thing in Old School.15
- Players congregate at the Max Guild because everybody is maxed; the Lumbridge-Al Kharid bridge area is connected and the Al Kharid gate has been removed.16
- One to three sealed clue scrolls can be obtained about every 15 minutes from skilling, and 200 million Woodcutting XP yields around 5k clue scrolls, as he understands it.17
- Alt1 scans the screen and can solve clue scrolls and similar, but is nowhere close to RuneLite.12
- Mining has changed since he last played, with a special hyper rock added to the otherwise similar tutorial; some Tutorial-era features have changed and he believes an island he asked about was deleted.1819
- The Necromancy release was a chance to make the early game more accessible to new players, but Jagex nerfed combat XP and made levelling harder for early players, which he calls an interesting decision.20
Dailies and Wilderness Flash Events
In March 2025 he showed the Daily Scape website, a checklist with reset timers for all dailies.21 RS3 has roughly 100 times the dailies of OSRS, including daily Treasure Hunter spins, a traveling merchant with a daily random stock, daily challenges, Jack of Trades, Soul Reaper, player-owned ports and farm, and more. Doing all of them would take about four to six hours, with weeklies, monthlies and tokens to repeat them on top.2223 All shops are on a daily reset timer, and buying out the rune shops is the main way an RS3 ironman gets runes.23
Wilderness Flash Events replace the Wilderness, happening every hour on the hour with almost no requirements (90% can be done at combat level 3).24 Each gives an XP chunk and a sack of wild rewards worth an average of 170k; the Infernal Star and Evil Tree events have three stages and give a sack of very wild rewards worth an average of 300k.2526 Brawling gloves are a rare reward giving very powerful tier 87 weapons, which he compares to ripping a twisted bow out of a sack, along with a very rare Dark Onyx core.27 RS3 ironmen must repeat the events constantly to get three of a rare item that has two rolls at 2 in 830 odds.28
Gethixian caches let a player do Divination twice a day for about 30k XP in five to ten minutes, in a skill whose base rate is about 10k XP an hour at level 10 and peaks around 80k XP an hour, so people train it just by doing the caches.28
Opinion on time-gating
In 2025 he said that the time-gated dailies ruined RS3 for him. They ruin it more than microtransactions, because an ironman can avoid microtransactions but cannot avoid dailies, and he said Jagex will never remove dailies.429
2026 changes
By August 2026 he said RS3 had reworked and cleaned up early areas such as Lumbridge, removing eyesores like a giant crater and trash, making it easier to get into.30 It had cut a lot of dailies and almost completely cut microtransactions; bonus XP can still be bought directly but without a gambling aspect like prismatic traps.31 Jagex said that a plugin API releasing in a couple of months will be open source, like RuneLite, and group Ironman was added not long ago.2 He would want tile markers and a menu entry swapper, and says plugin support makes him want to try RS3, possibly a streamer group ironman.32 He hopes players come back and give feedback, and notes that an Old School membership lets players log into an RS3 account and play the Leagues, so there is no risk in trying it.633
