Summary

Gnomonkey reviews RuneScape 3's second Leagues, saying it fixed the slow progression and heavy questing of the first one and felt comparable to an Old School league. Topics covered

RuneScape 3 Leagues

  • (0:00) Gnomonkey says RuneScape 3's second ever Leagues is a great experience, very comparable to an Old School league, because progression is fairly quick, you feel powerful and he barely had to do any quests, unlike the first RS3 Leagues which he disliked.
  • (0:27) Gnomonkey, led by RS3 streamer RS Guy along with Foe, Kirby and Sick Nerd, cleared a 4,000% enrage Amascut in RS3 Leagues, which he calls the hardest group content he has done in either game.
  • (1:27) Gnomonkey says RS3 builds are very strong in Leagues so you don't need to be good at combat to try things, and abilities are added gradually as you level, which he says makes the ability bar less overwhelming.
  • (3:35) RS3 does not have plugin support yet; there is Alt1, which scans the screen but is not a hooked plugin, and Jagex is planning to release plugin support in a couple of months.
  • (4:22) Gnomonkey's first relic pick was Golden Touch, which acts like Old School's Sage's greaves granting Agility XP while running (he hit 99 Agility passively in hour five) and gives much more GP from pickpocketing, leaving him with 200 million coins.
  • (4:23) Gnomonkey says that this Leagues he hasn't needed a quest helper plugin like in the last one, so the lack of plugins has not detracted from it.
  • (4:49) Gnomonkey likes the RS3 Leagues passive tiers, which give massive boosts such as Slayer points and Reaper points being five times more common, tons of Dungeoneering tokens, and unlocking all skill cape perks passively for 99 skills.
  • (5:18) RS3 Leagues has combat unlocks called blessings, similar to the combat point systems in Old School Leagues.
  • (5:52) Gnomonkey's RS3 Leagues build was a Drygore mace with a shield and heavy tank armor, where the more defence he had the more damage he dealt via blessings, with empowered defensive abilities such as Bash and an AoE Reflect.
  • (6:40) Gnomonkey's major complaint with RS3 Leagues 2 is that unlocking the final region needs about 120 tasks, there are too few easy bulk tasks in each region, and unlocking areas can be a slog.
  • (6:52) RS3 Leagues gives up to four resets of your choices, just like Old School Leagues, so you can try builds and change if they don't work.
  • (7:48) RS3 Leagues combat point tasks (blessing tasks) range from easy ones, such as those tied to a new giant boss called Ivor similar to Obor, to very hard ones like defeating Telos at 4,000% enrage or killing a camel warrior needing 96 Slayer.
  • (8:36) Gnomonkey says the chaotic pop-ups and sounds that blocked the settings at the start of Leagues were a real bug that Jagex fixed, and he made fun of it as a meme.
  • (9:47) For learning RS3 Leagues, Gnomonkey links the guide he used for the first six hours and RSGuide.com by RS Guy, which explains how RS3 systems work.
  • (26:07) Gnomonkey says he will check out every future RS3 Leagues and hopes RS3 gets a resurgence, but is not sure he will become an RS3 main.

RuneScape 3

  • (9:21) RuneScape 3 reworked and cleaned up early areas such as Lumbridge, removing eyesores like a giant crater and trash, which makes it easier to get into.
  • (9:48) Gnomonkey says RuneScape 3 is a really enjoyable game and not total garbage, and he has now finally experienced some of its endgame.
  • (11:21) RuneScape 3 has cut a lot of dailies and almost completely cut microtransactions; you can still buy bonus XP directly but there is no gambling aspect like prismatic traps.
  • (23:07) RuneScape 3 is releasing a plugin API in a couple of months that Jagex said will be open source, like RuneLite, and group Ironman was added not long ago.
  • (23:12) Gnomonkey says he mained RuneScape 3 long ago and had a max cape, then moved to Old School in about 2017 because of a lack of updates and wanting plugin support.
  • (23:13) Gnomonkey says he would want tile markers and a menu entry swapper in RS3 and that plugin support makes him want to try playing RS3, possibly a streamer group ironman.
  • (23:52) Gnomonkey says RuneScape 3 at its core is a really good game with big flaws that Jagex has been polishing for the last year, and hopes players come back and give feedback.
  • (25:07) Your Old School membership lets you log into your RuneScape 3 account and play the Leagues on your account, so there is no risk in trying it.

RuneScape 3 combat

  • (12:01) Gnomonkey says RS3 and Old School combat are not really comparable: Old School relies on positioning around tile effects and gear switches, while RS3 focuses on using abilities at the right time for boss mechanics and you can typically camp one style.
  • (12:45) RS3 bosses can have one-shot attack mechanics that you answer with a specific ability, such as using Resonance with a shield on to heal instead of taking damage.
  • (13:43) Gnomonkey's RS3 Leagues damage rotation was opening with Meteor Strike to gain adrenaline faster, then Berserk for more damage taken and dealt, then using damage abilities repeatedly while handling boss mechanics.
  • (14:17) Gnomonkey prefers that dealing damage in RS3 is an active skill check, whereas in Old School he dislikes DPS checks such as at Akkha because you have little control over your damage.
  • (15:10) At 4,000% enrage, the Arch-Glacor hits for roughly half to three-quarters of your health every attack unless you use defensive abilities such as Reflect, Immortality (you respawn if you die within 30 seconds) or Barricade (invulnerable for 10 seconds).

Amascut

  • (15:53) RS3's Amascut (called A Mascot in the transcript) is a newer small-raid style boss with a single boss but heavy group requirements, found in a pyramid at the centre of the city of Metaphoss in the desert, which Old School doesn't have.
  • (16:39) The Amascut fight starts with your team splitting to separate rooms where bodyguards block chains that must be killed while dodging floor patterns, then statues outside must be activated to lock each chain in or it respawns, with a timer that wipes the team if too slow.
  • (17:38) In a later phase armoured gorillas appear along with explosive bugs: teammates stun the bugs, then throw them at gorillas and armoured chains to remove the armor that prevents all damage.
  • (19:10) Gnomonkey's team fought Amascut scaled to 40 times its original difficulty in Leagues and it still took all day, because many mechanics kill instantly, such as exploding bugs that required everyone to pop Immortality.
  • (20:07) In the energy-beam phase, players use their own bodies as conduits to charge four orbs while someone tanks green lines (tanking twice in a row kills you), so people rotate around the room while others fight constantly spawning dogs.
  • (22:10) Gnomonkey says Amascut's required teamwork is beyond what you'd see even in high-level Theatre of Blood or Challenge Mode speedruns, and that the skill ceiling of RS3 is absolutely insane.
