Methods

  • Herbivore hunting is unlocked at level 80 Hunter on Fossil Island; the boars give decent money and competitive XP and are much less click-intensive than trapping.1
  • Herbivore method: start at one of the rocks around the island and click the RuneLite-highlighted objects until you reach a hole and find a boar, check it and continue; the long run time between objects makes it much less intensive than other Hunter methods.2

Stats and numbers

  • Herbivore have a unique pet, Herbi, rolled at 1 in 6,500; Gnomonkey says you have roughly a 50% chance of getting it before 99 if starting at 80.1
  • Herbivore gives about 120k XP an hour at level 80, scaling up to 150k XP an hour at 99; at 99 Herblore Gnomonkey also got about 500k GP an hour in herbs, less than black chinchompas but very solid.3

Tips

  • Gnomonkey highly recommends getting 99 Herblore before grinding herbivore, as the herbs you loot scale with Herblore level and it seriously increases your chance of ranarr seeds; herbivore are also a decent source of fossils.1
  • For herbivore, wear full Graceful for run energy; Magic secateurs increase the herbs you get but the farming cape does not, and it is probably the most useful place to use a ring of endurance.1
  • An herb sack is extremely useful for herbivore, though you can also note herbs on the tool leprechaun; with a ring of endurance Gnomonkey brings about four stamina potions (just over an hour), and without it about eight.4
  • The herb sack typically fills around the one-hour mark, and you can bank on Fossil Island with the boat.4
