Topics covered
Hunter
- (0:00) Gnomonkey describes Hunter as a very profitable skill that is typically relatively intensive through most methods.
- (0:00) Many important high-level quests require Hunter, namely Monkey Madness II at 60 Hunter and Song of the Elves at 70 Hunter.
- (0:00) Hunter is trained by trapping creatures, and the number of traps you can lay increases every twenty levels, up to five traps at level 80 Hunter.
- (0:00) Gnomonkey says Hunter starts with slow, terrible methods but speeds up dramatically once you can lay five traps.
- (0:27) Hunter has little in the way of equipment upgrades other than the traps you buy; Gnomonkey recommends buying a decent pile of ropes, small nets and box traps.
- (0:27) The most useful outfit for Hunter is the Graceful outfit because you do a lot of running around.
- (0:27) Gnomonkey says it is a misconception that camo outfits such as the larupia outfit help with Hunter; as of 2021 he says they are purely cosmetic.
- (0:56) A handful of quests give Hunter XP but, unfortunately, all of them require Hunter levels.
- (8:30) Gnomonkey says there are many alternatives to black chinchompas, which are definitely intensive considering their location, and that his preferred method to 99 Hunter is herbivore, unlocked at level 80.
- (11:50) Because monkey trapping has no pet drop, Gnomonkey typically prefers herbivore to it, as herbivore gives decent money and better XP at relatively low intensity.
Natural History Museum
- (0:27) To start Hunter, Gnomonkey says to finish the Natural History Museum quiz in the Varrock Museum basement by talking to Orlando Smith and answering the questions at every exhibit; RuneLite will tell you the correct answers.
- (0:56) Finishing the Varrock Museum quiz gives 1,000 Slayer XP and 1,000 Hunter XP, getting you straight to level 9 in both skills.
Birdhouse run
- (0:56) From level 5 up to level 80, birdhouses are technically the fastest Hunter training method, giving 50k XP an hour even at level 5 according to Gnomonkey.
- (0:56) Gnomonkey recommends doing birdhouse runs until at least level 60, as they are significantly faster than other methods.
- (0:56) Birdhouse runs require the Bone Voyage quest to be completed to access Fossil Island, plus four clockworks, a hammer, a chisel, four logs per birdhouse and at least a stack of 40 hop seeds and a digsite pendant.
- (1:29) Birdhouse run route: teleport to Fossil Island, take the mushroom to Verdant Valley and place two birdhouses, then take the mushroom back to Mushroom Meadow and grab the last two birdhouse spots.
- (1:29) Birdhouses are the fastest non-tick-manipulated Hunter XP in the game, capping at about 200k XP an hour with redwood birdhouses.
- (1:29) Gnomonkey says it is a common misconception that birdhouses are the most efficient XP to 99, but that they are a solid method.
- (1:55) You need to do over 2,000 birdhouse runs to reach 99 Hunter, which at five runs a day would take well over a year.
- (1:55) Gnomonkey recommends herbivore or black chinchompas over birdhouses once you have the level; even if you hate birdhouse runs, or are making an ultimate ironman with limited time, he says the minimum level to stop doing them is 43.
- (10:00) While hunting herbivore on Fossil Island you can optionally bring birdhouse items and do the runs when they are ready, as you are right next to them, which boosts XP rates quite a bit.
Falconry
- (1:55) At level 43 falconry becomes decent because you can catch spotted kebbits, which Gnomonkey says is the best consistent method from levels 43 to 60, giving roughly 60k XP an hour at level 43.
- (2:29) The Falconry pen is on the east side of Piscatoris, and the fastest way there is fairy ring AKQ.
- (2:29) Gnomonkey highly recommends bringing a bone crusher for falconry so bones do not enter your inventory and have to be dropped alongside the fur, and wearing the Graceful outfit.
- (2:29) Stand as close to the kebbit as you can in falconry, because the falcon travels like a projectile and takes longer to catch kebbits that are further away.
- (2:29) You can catch dark kebbits at level 57 for three levels, but they are only a bit faster than spotted kebbits.
Red salamander
- (3:01) From level 60 to 67 you can hunt red salamanders; they can technically be caught at level 59 but you only have three traps then, so Gnomonkey says to finish that level at falconry.
- (3:01) Red salamanders are found right next to the entrance to the ZMI altar; you can reach them with the Lunar Ourania teleport or the Battlefield spirit tree.
- (3:01) For red salamanders wear Graceful, do not let your inventory fill up, and release them with shift-click; each trap needs a small fishing net and rope, and Gnomonkey brings five of each so he can rebuild a trap immediately when one collapses.
- (3:35) Red salamanders give around 80 to 100k XP an hour, a huge jump from falconry according to Gnomonkey.
Black salamander
- (3:35) From level 67 to 73 you can hunt black salamanders in the Wilderness, where you can place an additional trap, so Gnomonkey brings six ropes and nets instead of five.
- (3:35) Gnomonkey wears a dragon dagger when hunting black salamanders and brings no teleport, saying PKers are extremely rare there and it is faster to die and regear if someone PKs you.
Black chinchompa
- (4:02) Black chinchompas can be hunted from level 73 Hunter and are found just south of the canoe, just above level 30 Wilderness.
- (4:02) Gnomonkey says black chinchompas are the best money a hunter can make and also the fastest XP if you tick manipulate all the way to 99.
- (4:02) Black chinchompas have the exact same catch rate as red chinchompas and give around 1 million GP an hour without tick manipulation.
- (4:02) Without tick manipulation or alting, Gnomonkey got roughly 120k XP an hour from black chinchompas in the nineties, similar to herbivore; it is slower until you can use a sixth box trap at level 80 Hunter.
- (4:34) The Chinchompa pet drops at 1 in 83,000 per black chinchompa caught, versus 1 in 100,000 for red chinchompas, so black chins are the best option for the pet.
- (4:34) On 2200 total worlds, Gnomonkey only encountered PKers every couple of hours while hunting black chinchompas; on other worlds PKers are more common but typically wear salad robes or mystic and cannot really kill you.
- (4:34) Black chinchompas are not in multi-combat and are only a few steps from level 30 Wilderness where you can teleport away; if you get tele-blocked you can run west to the hobgoblins and x-log.
- (5:05) Bring a quick ranged weapon to tag chinchompas that run off, such as a magic shortbow or hunter's crossbow; Gnomonkey found darts really good because they are so fast you can use them between resetting traps and waste no ticks.
- (5:38) Gnomonkey's black chinchompa gear: a Mage Arena 1 cape, Verac's helm, black d'hide, Barrows gloves and mystic boots, with an ancient staff switch and Dinh's bulwark in the inventory.
- (5:38) Gnomonkey's black chinchompa inventory includes six box traps, a few anglerfish, a pile of brews, around four restores, flowers for the hobgoblin x-log, stamina potions and anti-venom.
- (6:04) People often use a toxic staff of the dead to venom you at black chinchompas; Gnomonkey brings a trash axe for the canoe, a gnome seed pod to teleport at level 30 Wilderness (or a glory), and house tabs to resupply.
- (6:31) Gnomonkey says he does not claim the best method for chinchompas and you can get better rates if you are sweaty about it; he found tick manipulation not really worth it here without an ultimate ironman to shoot chinchompas for you.
- (7:01) Gnomonkey builds six traps in one formation and tags one chinchompa with RuneLite so he knows where it respawns, which keeps him busy without tick manipulation; if it runs away he throws a dart at it as he resets the trap.
- (8:28) Gnomonkey typically banks after collecting about 500 chinchompas, though he says you could likely catch thousands safely.
Player killing
- (6:31) Gnomonkey says that if Dinh's bulwark gets nerfed, he would instead bring a Staff of the Dead and a Spectral spirit shield for black chinchompa hunting, since the staff special halves melee damage taken for a minute and the shield gives magic defence.
- (6:31) Gnomonkey says you can swap a Phoenix necklace for a glory when hunting black chinchompas, and both are solid options.
- (7:28) If you get frozen but not tele-blocked by a PKer at black chinchompas, put on the bulwark, pray melee and spam food and restores until unfrozen, then run south a little and teleport.
- (7:28) If you get tele-blocked, tank the freeze with the bulwark, switch back to your staff and shield as the freeze runs out and run as far as you can, repeating until you reach the hobgoblins.
- (7:59) At the hobgoblins, run into the centre, let one attack you and hit it with flowers; close your client and your character will log out after two minutes of hitting the hobgoblin, and Gnomonkey says the PKer cannot stop you.
- (7:59) Gnomonkey says to combo eat your anglerfish and then brews to heal quickly after a spec, and to keep drinking restores so the PKer's freezes land less often.
- (8:28) If PKers bother you often at black chinchompas, Gnomonkey suggests taking a dragon dagger to spec them out before teleporting so they leave you alone.
Herbivore
- (9:01) Herbivore hunting is unlocked at level 80 Hunter on Fossil Island; the boars give decent money and competitive XP and are much less click-intensive than trapping.
- (9:01) Gnomonkey highly recommends getting 99 Herblore before grinding herbivore, as the herbs you loot scale with Herblore level and it seriously increases your chance of ranarr seeds; herbivore are also a decent source of fossils.
- (9:01) Herbivore have a unique pet, Herbi, rolled at 1 in 6,500; Gnomonkey says you have roughly a 50% chance of getting it before 99 if starting at 80.
- (9:01) For herbivore, wear full Graceful for run energy; Magic secateurs increase the herbs you get but the farming cape does not, and it is probably the most useful place to use a ring of endurance.
- (9:31) An herb sack is extremely useful for herbivore, though you can also note herbs on the tool leprechaun; with a ring of endurance Gnomonkey brings about four stamina potions (just over an hour), and without it about eight.
- (9:31) The herb sack typically fills around the one-hour mark, and you can bank on Fossil Island with the boat.
- (10:00) Herbivore method: start at one of the rocks around the island and click the RuneLite-highlighted objects until you reach a hole and find a boar, check it and continue; the long run time between objects makes it much less intensive than other Hunter methods.
- (10:27) Herbivore gives about 120k XP an hour at level 80, scaling up to 150k XP an hour at 99; at 99 Herblore Gnomonkey also got about 500k GP an hour in herbs, less than black chinchompas but very solid.
Monkey trapping
- (10:41) Monkey trapping is available from level 60 Hunter with Monkey Madness completed; Gnomonkey found it typically gives 20k XP an hour less than herbivore at any level, breakeven GP an hour, but is by far the most AFK Hunter method.
- (10:56) Monkey trapping takes place in the monkey tunnels on Ape Atoll, and requires a mithril grapple and crossbow to cross the monkey bars and trap.
- (10:56) Monkey trapping needs bananas; Gnomonkey brings five loose bananas and fills the rest of his inventory with baskets of bananas, and prefers banking over collecting bones for bones to bananas because you cannot cast while holding a grapple.
- (11:23) Trapped monkeys drop damaged monkey tails worth nothing, which can be sliced with a knife into sinew for 15 Crafting XP each while waiting; Gnomonkey suggests tipping dragon bolts with ruby or diamond tips as better passive GP and Fletching XP.
- (11:23) Trapped monkeys have a 1 in 5,000 chance to drop a monkey tail for the ballista, worth around 400k, which Gnomonkey says basically just pays for the bananas used.
- (11:50) Gnomonkey says monkey trapping is a very good option if you desperately need something AFK.
