Summary

Gnomonkey goes through every task Duradel can assign, ordered by weight from highest to lowest, giving his personal block/skip decisions and reasoning as of September 2020. He stresses that the list is account-dependent and that players should build their own block list by blocking the highest-weight tasks they do not do and skipping the rest.

Topics covered

Slayer task blocking

  • (0:00) Gnomonkey says what to skip or block is extremely hard to answer, is different for every account and depends on the stage of the account; the video only gives his personal skip/block list and reasoning.
  • (0:00) The higher a Slayer task's weight, the more likely you are to be assigned it.
  • (0:00) As of September 2020 the video description lists Gnomonkey's blocks as Abyssal demons, Black demons, Cave krakens, Drakes, Greater demons and Hellhounds, though in the video he says he recently unblocked Abyssal demons, Hellhounds and Greater demons after getting a twisted bow.
  • (0:33) Gnomonkey advises always prioritising blocking the highest-weight tasks you do not do, and skipping the tasks you cannot fit on your block list.
  • (0:33) The easiest way to make a block list, according to Gnomonkey, is to open your Slayer master's wiki page, order tasks by weight from top to bottom, highlight monsters you would not want to kill, block the top six you would not do and skip the rest.
  • (0:33) Gnomonkey says not to follow his exact list because it is pretty easy to burn out doing Slayer, and that if you hate even Dagannoth you should not be afraid to block them.
  • (11:29) The Stop the Wyvern Slayer reward costs 500 points and blocks Fossil Island wyverns without taking a block slot; Gnomonkey says it is not worth buying if you would not get more than 16 of these tasks by 99, but he thinks you would.

Duradel

  • (0:00) Gnomonkey considers Duradel the best Slayer master for Slayer XP in the game.
  • (0:00) Gnomonkey says some tasks he skips, such as gargoyles and Kurasks, are ones other players should do at certain points in their account.
  • (1:05) Abyssal demons and boss tasks are Duradel's most common tasks, each with a weight of 12.
  • (8:07) Drakes are Gnomonkey's final block slot: with the Dragon hunter lance you can hit 30k Slayer XP an hour and about 600k GP an hour before supply cost, which is worse than gargoyles and not AFK, so he says they are definitely not worth doing.
  • (8:37) Gnomonkey calls Suqahs a great cannon task for Slayer XP at 60k XP an hour but a pure loss, since they basically have no drops, and worth doing if you have the money for cannonballs.
  • (11:00) Gnomonkey calls trolls a very good cannon task: ice trolls provide over 50k Slayer XP an hour and have decent drops that can make up the cost of cannonballs, and he would always do this task.
  • (11:00) Ankou are an extremely fast task for points: kill them as quickly as possible in the Stronghold Slayer Cave catacombs, taking about five minutes, though they are terrible XP and GP.
  • (11:29) Fossil Island wyverns have a weight of 5 from Duradel and are also assigned by Konar with the same weight, which matters if you plan to do hydras later.
  • (11:29) Gnomonkey calls dust devils one of the best burst tasks: over 70k Slayer XP an hour, normally paying back the cost with drops, a staple burst task always worth doing and extending.
  • (13:02) The transcript garbles this task's name, but it appears to be Kurask: Gnomonkey says it is a great task for money, better than gargoyles at a solid 1m GP an hour with a good superior, but only 20 to 25k Slayer XP an hour, so he skips it at his stage.
  • (13:02) Adamant dragons are a very fast task for points if you have a lance or even a Zamorakian hasta; they are decent money but bad XP, so Gnomonkey says always do it if you have one of those, and not otherwise.
  • (13:27) Zygomites are one of the worst tasks for GP and XP in the game, but take five to ten minutes, so Gnomonkey says they are worth doing for points.

Abyssal demon

  • (1:05) Abyssal demons are Duradel's most common task with a weight of 12, and Gnomonkey blocked them until recently.
  • (1:05) Gnomonkey considers abyssal demons a pretty terrible task to melee: bad XP, with their only good drop being whips, dropped once every three tasks on average; they are a decent burst task but annoying because they teleport around.
  • (1:36) Gnomonkey says Abyssal Sire is a fun option that is decent money over the long term if you want the Abyssal orphan pet.
  • (1:36) Gnomonkey unblocked abyssal demons because he started a twisted bow rebuild.

Boss tasks

  • (1:36) Boss tasks have a weight of 12 from Duradel; they assign a random boss with a quantity you can choose from 3 to 35, and give a bonus of 5k Slayer XP after completion regardless of quantity.
  • (2:06) Gnomonkey says boss tasks are not efficient to unlock for Slayer XP because many slow bosses are included, like Wilderness and God Wars bosses, but are great if you want pets and do a lot of bossing anyway.
  • (2:06) Gnomonkey advises checking the wiki and making sure you do a majority of the possible bosses before unlocking boss tasks; even with a twisted bow he had not unlocked them.

Dark beast

  • (2:06) Dark beasts are a very common task and very fast for points; if left unextended you are assigned only 10 to 20.
  • (2:38) Gnomonkey powers through dark beasts in the Prifddinas Slayer Dungeon (the Elf Slayer Dungeon) for the crystal shard chance.
  • (2:38) Dark beasts have a great superior with the highest chance of an imbued heart before smoke devils or hydras, according to Gnomonkey.

Hellhound

  • (2:38) Gnomonkey had blocked hellhounds until recently: the regular monster has no drops besides hard clues and extremely rare smoldering stones, and is an awful task for XP that wastes supplies for no GP.
  • (2:38) Gnomonkey says Cerberus is a decent boss for money if you can afford at least a bludgeon, though some tasks lose money since Cerberus's value is all in his primordial crystal drops.
  • (3:08) Gnomonkey unblocked hellhounds after getting a twisted bow, for the chance at a Cerberus pet and pretty good money.

Lizardman shaman

  • (3:08) Gnomonkey calls Lizardman shamans a great task for money but terrible XP, finds them annoying, and leaves them blocked.
  • (3:08) Gnomonkey suggests Lizardman shamans for players who want to make money over the long term for the dragon warhammer drop.

TzHaar Fight Cave

  • (3:08) Gnomonkey says Fight Caves Slayer tasks are great if you want a Jad pet.
  • (3:08) Finishing the Fight Caves on task provides an additional 25k Slayer XP plus XP for each monster slain, for a total of 37k Slayer XP.
  • (3:37) Finishing the Fight Caves in 40 minutes with a blowpipe is a fairly good time and gives about 60k Slayer XP an hour; the tokkul at the end can recoup some of the supply loss if saved for Onyx.
  • (3:37) Gnomonkey got the Jad pet on his 30th Fight Caves and then relocked the task as he had no desire to do it anymore.
  • (4:08) With a twisted bow Gnomonkey says the Fight Caves task is probably worth doing even with the pet, as you can get cave times closer to 30 minutes, which is incredibly good Slayer XP an hour.

Black dragon

  • (4:08) Gnomonkey calls black dragons an amazing task for money that he extends, with Brutal black dragons being an AFK task giving up to 1.5m GP an hour, equivalent to rune dragons.
  • (4:08) On a black dragon task you can also kill the King Black Dragon, which has a great pet and is also great money, according to Gnomonkey.
  • (4:08) If you are after XP and do not want brutal black dragons or the King Black Dragon, Gnomonkey says not to skip black dragons but to do baby black dragons in Taverley Dungeon for easy points.

Cave kraken

  • (4:36) Cave krakens have always been a big block for Gnomonkey; regular krakens are terrible money and XP and are realistically never worth doing unless you are an Ironman.
  • (4:36) Gnomonkey calls the Kraken boss worth doing only for the pet, which he finds ugly and extremely common; it is less than 1m GP an hour with terrible XP, and worse money than gargoyles.

Dagannoth

  • (5:07) Gnomonkey says Dagannoth are the best cannon tasks for XP in the game, at the Lighthouse.
  • (5:07) Dagannoth have decent seed drops that can pay for cannonballs if you get lucky, and give pretty good combat XP.
  • (5:07) On a Dagannoth task you can choose to fight the Dagannoth Kings, which Gnomonkey says are very good money depending on setup and definitely worth it if you want the pets; he says Dagannoth are always worth doing.

Greater demon

  • (5:07) Gnomonkey blocked greater demons until recently: an okay cannon task with a blowpipe at just over 40k Slayer XP an hour, but you pay for cannonballs, pipe charges and darts, and with the current bursting meta there are far better tasks for XP at less cost.
  • (5:38) K'ril Tsutsaroth counts as a greater demon for the purposes of the task; Gnomonkey unblocked greater demons after buying a twisted bow to do some K'ril tasks but would typically leave them blocked.

Kalphite

  • (5:38) Gnomonkey calls Kalphites an amazing cannon task that he always does; they provide little money but upwards of 65k Slayer XP an hour.
  • (5:38) Gnomonkey says the Kalphite Queen is typically pretty bad for money unless you have incredibly good gear, but you should definitely get a Kalphite task when going for your Desert Elite Diary requirement.

Nechryael

  • (6:12) Gnomonkey calls Nechryael the second best task in the game for Slayer XP and an incredible one that you should extend and always do.
  • (6:12) Nechryael are the only burst tasks where you will make your money back because they drop tons of good loot; they need either an alt or Explorer's ring 4 to be truly efficient, but otherwise you can just bank the drops.

Smoke devil

  • (6:38) Gnomonkey says smoke devils are the best task for Slayer XP in the game, hitting over 90k Slayer XP an hour, though they are kind of expensive to burst since you use a cannon as well.
  • (6:38) Occult necklace drops from smoke devils help mitigate the cost a little.
  • (6:38) Gnomonkey says the Thermonuclear smoke devil is pretty terrible for GP and XP unless you have something like a spec transfer alt with dragon claws, but it has a pet if you want it.

Black demon

  • (7:10) Black demons are a block for Gnomonkey: you can use a blowpipe and cannon for about 40k Slayer XP an hour, which he considers too much supply cost for the XP, like greater demons.
  • (7:38) Black demon tasks count for Skotizo as well, so if you leave them unblocked, Gnomonkey says to wait to do Skotizo until you have a task.

Demonic gorilla

  • (7:10) With really good stats and gear it is possible to hit 80 demonic gorilla kills an hour, which Gnomonkey says is 4.8m GP an hour with average Zenyte drops.
  • (7:10) Gnomonkey finds demonic gorillas incredibly intensive and annoying, so he would rather not do them even for that kind of money.

Bloodveld

  • (7:38) Gnomonkey blocked bloodvelds until the Sins of the Father quest added an amazing cannon spot for them in the Meiyerditch Laboratories; he had not yet secured a task to make a video.
  • (8:07) Bloodvelds provide up to 60k Slayer XP an hour with decent alchable and rune drops, and Gnomonkey says they are definitely worth doing.

Gargoyle

  • (8:07) As of recently Gnomonkey skips gargoyles on his account: early on they are amazing AFK money but terrible Slayer XP an hour.
  • (8:37) For an account with the gear and stats to do a boss like Vorkath or Zulrah, Gnomonkey says the 1m GP an hour of gargoyles is no longer worth bothering with, though they can be nice to AFK and there is no shame in doing them.

Vampyre

  • (9:05) Gnomonkey unlocked vampyres recently: an extremely AFK task for melee combat XP of upwards of 80k an hour, with solid GP of about 1.5m an hour, no prayer potion cost, but only about 20k Slayer XP an hour.
  • (9:05) Gnomonkey says that if you are still doing gargoyle tasks you should definitely unlock vampyres and do them too, and maybe even extend.

Basilisk

  • (9:35) Gnomonkey keeps basilisks locked, but says basilisk knights are okay money over the long run, averaging 25k GP per kill with jaw drops, though terrible XP an hour.
  • (10:02) Basilisk knights can be AFKed with a crossbow or melee, getting around 60 kills an hour, which is about 1.5m GP an hour on average, which Gnomonkey says is okay for an AFK task.

Slayer task blocking

  • (9:05) Gnomonkey says wyrms are a definite skip: bad Slayer XP and GP an hour even with a lance, similar to drakes, and their magic attacks can hit hard if you have lower Magic or are not ranging.
  • (9:05) Gnomonkey skips aberrant spectres: they use magic attacks, give terrible XP an hour, average only 2k GP a kill, and require a nose peg, so they cannot be done without a Slayer helmet.
  • (10:02) Gnomonkey skips fire giants: about 40k XP an hour as a cannon task is mediocre, drops are not great, and it is a long task with no superiors that he finds boring.
  • (10:33) Gnomonkey skips skeletal wyverns, but with a dragon hunter crossbow they can be safe-spotted for over 1m GP an hour with terrible Slayer XP an hour.
  • (10:33) Gnomonkey skips spiritual creatures: they can only be fought in the God Wars Dungeon, with awful Slayer XP and GP an hour since the dragon boots drop is pretty rare.
  • (10:33) Gnomonkey skips steel dragons: even with a lance and noted steel bars from kills in Brimhaven Dungeon they are terrible XP and relatively bad GP an hour.
  • (11:00) Gnomonkey skips Fossil Island wyverns: you could power through them with a lance but drops are not great and XP is bad.
  • (12:00) Gnomonkey says iron dragons are even worse XP and GP than steel dragons and not worth doing under any circumstances, even with a lance and noted iron bars.
  • (12:32) Gnomonkey says cave horrors are a definite skip: the black mask drop is a 1 in 512 drop, so you get one about every three tasks on average, they are terrible money and XP, and not being able to wear a torture amulet is a hindrance.
  • (12:32) Gnomonkey skips elves: a really bad task for both money and XP, and methods like cannoning at the Prifddinas market or AFKing at Mourner HQ are awful.
  • (13:56) Gnomonkey considers waterfiends a terrible task with awful XP and GP and a hard skip, joking they might be worth it for crimson charms if Summoning were added.
  • (13:56) Gnomonkey calls red dragons not worth unlocking unless you are an Ironman after keys, as they give bad XP and GP.
  • (13:56) Gnomonkey tells viewers not to copy his list exactly but to use his info to form their own block list.

Blue dragon

  • (12:00) Gnomonkey calls blue dragons a great motivator to do Vorkath in the mid-game; a Vorkath task is not good Slayer XP an hour but gives about 110k Slayer XP for the full task.
  • (12:32) Gnomonkey did every Vorkath task to build his bank, totalling 1,800 kills.
  • (12:32) With a twisted bow and hydra unlocked Gnomonkey would probably skip blue dragons, and he says only very late game would he start skipping them; if you cannot or will not do Vorkath, baby and regular blue dragons are terrible money and XP and not worth doing.

Rune dragon

  • (13:27) Gnomonkey calls rune dragons an amazing task for money but terrible XP: well over 1.5m GP an hour with a Slayer helmet, max gear and a Dragon hunter lance; he extended them and always does them.
  • (13:27) Without a lance but with a hasta Gnomonkey would still do rune dragons but not extend for points, and below that gear level he would skip the task.
