The Doom of Mokhaiotl rewards update is the series of Jagex blogs in early 2025 proposing, revising and polling the rewards for the Delve boss Doom of Mokhaiotl ("Mokha"). Gnomonkey reacted to several of the blogs. His view moved from disbelief at the third blog, through alarm at the "utterly broken" Confliction gauntlets in blog 47, to approval of the revised set, which he called the right set on the final blog.5678
Blog history
Third blog (January 2025)
Jagex put together a new blog collecting the latest information on the reward proposals, which Gnomonkey says was in response to the proposal updates being complicated to follow.1 The third blog replaced the previously proposed cape with an untradeable Occult necklace upgrade, after back and forth about a tradable, untradeable or no cape.9 It also said Jagex plans to replace the thrall upgrade with a teleport and possibly a second tradable drop that affects the encounter itself, such as an item that skips straight to Delve level 3 when consumed. Jagex said it would not poll these additions.10
Gnomonkey reacted with disbelief that a profit-keeping thrall upgrade currency was being replaced with teleport scrolls and something letting players skip to cave three so they can immediately get the necklace.11 He called the blog very short and said it made things worse than the previous blog, which he called impressive since the second blog had many issues he wanted answered.5 He told viewers not to accept the update as good enough just because the blog count was wearing everyone out, and told Jagex to delay the update if it needed to.12
Blog 47 (March 2025)
Blog number 47 was released while Gnomonkey was on his honeymoon, and he reacted to it in the video "Mohka Rewards #4".13 Jagex said the earlier rewards were not strong or interesting enough, so the new designs were built with that in mind; content-specific rewards such as a teleport item and a pet are still planned, but the blog focuses on the rewards players will vote on.13 The four rewards are revised boots, a new mage staff (Eye of Ayak), Confliction gauntlets (a tormented bracelet upgrade) and a shovel that instantly harvests herbs.14
His verdict was that the boots and shovel are good, the staff has major issues needing changes, and the gauntlets are utterly broken.6 He compared the swing from the earlier 1% mage damage and negative prayer on the cape to the gauntlets as sliding from one end of the boat to the other, and wanted a happy medium.15 He worried players were exhausted by so many rewards blogs and would stop reading them, so that if the poll went ahead the gauntlets would pass and break the game in half, and he hoped Jagex would pull the gauntlets as it did with the Nightmare's super high mage damage tome, which was dropped even though it passed its vote.1617 He said the items for Yama were much better than these after blog after blog of this process.6
Revised rewards blog (24 March 2025)
The blog said the rewards were tweaked after player feedback with a handful of small changes, and includes all upcoming poll questions.18 Gnomonkey thought the revised rewards were finally a good set: Jagex went through a lot of changes but nailed it this time.7 His main complaints about the previous blog were that the gauntlets were insanely broken for the Tumeken's shadow and that the new weapon's spec was basically useless; both were addressed.7 He said Jagex conquered every complaint he had and that he was glad he complained, despite people being mad at him for complaining about things being too powerful. He would no longer vote no on everything and would vote yes to everything in the poll.1920
Final blog (28 March 2025)
Gnomonkey was happy with the update before this blog and expected it to make things worse, guessing they would change the spade.21 The final Delve boss reward blog begins with Jagex reflecting on how the rewards had been handled, calling nailing them a challenge and the understatement of the year.2 Jagex announced the polls would open the following Monday, 31 March.3 It believes the Eye of Ayak and Avernic Treads (gauntlets and consumable tiers) make a tight and impactful set of rewards that should stay in high demand and give players an incentive to risk it all at deeper delve levels.4
Gnomonkey had expected the worst and that Reddit would win, and was surprised it turned out pretty good. He found Jagex's closing thanks to the community for the "rewards roller coaster" very based, and says Reddit did not win this time.228 He loves the commitment to looking at Tumeken's shadow and Jagex's general design philosophy going forward.23
