Stats and numbers

  • Standard membership went up one dollar, which Gnomonkey says is the typical size of increase when Jagex raises prices.1
  • Jagex removed the three-month and six-month membership options, leaving monthly, bonds and yearly (12-month) membership as the only choices.2
  • Jagex's blog says 12-month membership provides 12 months for the price of nine on average; Gnomonkey says before this change the yearly value was about the cost of seven and a half months, so the value has gotten worse.3
  • The blog FAQ says prices are changing to support ongoing investment across both games, infrastructure, upgraded systems, new content and player support, and to keep RuneScape and Old School RuneScape sustainable for the next 25 years.4

Gnomonkey's opinion

  • Gnomonkey says the 12-month membership remaining the 'best annual value' is only because it is now the only long-term option, and considers the wording scummy.5
  • Gnomonkey does not think this reaction is as bad as last year's player survey controversy, though many Reddit users posted pictures of unsubscribing.6
  • Gnomonkey says he personally will not cancel his membership, but understands players who do, and wants Jagex held accountable for buggy updates, lack of player support and unclear plans.7

Events

  • Jagex raised Old School RuneScape membership prices again and published a blog explaining the reasons; the news caused a big reaction on Reddit.8
