Fletching is a skill topic that Gnomonkey covers in 6 videos between 2019-07-24 and 2026-05-27. This article is a stub: his statements are grouped by type, repeated ones merged.

Requirements

  • The 84 Fletching requirement listed in the Sailing prep blog is just for the new blowpipes.1

Methods

  • Completing Animal Magnetism, Big Chompy Bird Hunting, Zogre Flesh Eaters, Temple of Ikov and the Fremennik Trials skips you straight to Fletching level 30.2
  • Bow fletching is not necessarily efficient, but it is very AFK and profitable and turns Fletching into an easy bank-standing skill; you can either fletch unstrung bows or string them, with the same XP and requirements.2
  • Stringing bows is faster than fletching them but less AFK, with varying GP rates, and the profit comes from strung bows typically alching for decent value.2
  • In the previewed Fletching activity, players go to a site and build all the totems, then Ents visit and drop off rewards including XP; the Ents keep interacting with the totems while the player runs to the next site.3

Stats and numbers

  • Bow fletching to 99 provides about 20m GP profit.4
  • The blog adds fletchable lower-tier blowpipes: a max level dart is required for each blowpipe, either mithril darts for the lowest tier or adamant darts, and the toxic blowpipe still reigns supreme.5
  • The new blowpipes require 72 Fletching to make (Gnomonkey also mentions 84), and the Ranged levels to use them are 45, 55 and 65.6
  • The new logs from Sailing can be made into new mid-tier blowpipes that Gnomonkey says compete with the Magic shortbow but are not new best in slot.7

Tips

  • Jagex said that players can do zero-time activities such as blowing glass while running between the Fletching totem sites, and that banks are accessible throughout the method.3
  • Fletching can probably be skipped for Sailing prep, especially if you already have a blowpipe, because the new blowpipes will not be very useful to you.1
  • Javelin shafts are not made from all log types like arrow shafts are, and can only be obtained from regular logs or as drops; he suggests they should work like arrow shafts.8

Gnomonkey's opinion

  • Gnomonkey describes Fletching as one of the most common 99s, often finished as a player's very first 99, because it has many methods from fast and expensive to AFK and profitable.4
  • Gnomonkey says Fletching broad arrows with zero-time Fletching is so strong that Trouble Brewing's Fletching XP was not really worth it by comparison.9
  • Gnomonkey says the previewed Fletching activity feels like birdhouse runs that you actively train, and he thinks that sounds decent.3
  • Gnomonkey says he is not sure he fully agrees that the new Fletching activity and Trouble Brewing have to be mutually exclusive.3
  • Gnomonkey predicts the new Fletching minigame will lean towards Mixology and be better than average minigames, but says that having to pave over old methods leaves a bad taste.10
  • Gnomonkey says the craftable blowpipes will help mid-level Iron Men, whose early Ranged options are basically a Magic shortbow, Scurrius' bow or Dorgeshuun crossbow, and that most early targets have no defence so a blowpipe is an amazing option.6
  • Gnomonkey says some players might be scared by letting players craft blowpipes, but it seems reined in by the dart limits, the Fletching requirement and the Ranged requirement, and that it will change the early game a lot.11

Events

  • After 30 minutes of woodcutting and cutting logs, Gnomonkey reaches level 5 Fletching and 5 Firemaking but finds he needs feathers to make bronze arrows.12
  • Gnomonkey concludes there is literally no way to get feathers on the account, so arrow Fletching is out of the question.13
  • A new Fletching activity is coming with Varlamore part three, in which players recycle logs, bows and shields to build totems at totem sites around Varlamore.3
