Requirements

  • The new fish requires 91 Fishing, and Gnomonkey believes 93 Cooking to cook it; he considers it a little better than anglerfish.1

Methods

  • Gnomonkey would grab the fish barrel from Tempoross, then AFK Karambwans until he got the pet.2
  • If he got spooked the pet, Gnomonkey would switch to dark crabs at 85 Fishing and go all the way to 99.3

Stats and numbers

  • All the discussed methods benefit from Rada's Blessing in the Kourend/Kebos diaries, from a 2% chance of doubling the catch with the easy diary to 8% with the elite diary.4
  • Gnomonkey gets 90k Fishing XP per hour from Drift net fishing, which he says competes fairly well with dedicated intensive Fishing methods on its own.5
  • Karambwan fishing has an incredibly good pet chance and is about four minutes of AFK, up there with redwoods among the most AFK methods in the game.2
  • Two new harpoon squid fishing spots are added at levels 52 and 69 Fishing, which give squid paste (used in potions), fish offcuts (used for fishing other fish) and squid beaks (used for Fletching).6
  • Deep sea trawling is a hybrid method requiring both a Sailing level and a Construction level, where higher level nets give better fish; Gnomonkey says you are blocked from the best option without enough Construction.7
  • Deep sea trawling introduces new fish with unique effects: haddock heals 18 with overheal up to 10 (a low-level anglerfish equivalent) and yellowfin tuna gives 20% energy, like Kebbit, and both are used to make super fishing potion and extreme energy potions.8
  • A new combo food heals 20, and Gnomonkey wonders whether it has a two-tick delay like Karambwan; if so it would be the best healing food per tick in the game.9
  • Bluefin tuna restores a small amount of prayer points, which Gnomonkey says might help redemption procing, such as when thieving.9
  • Marlin heals 24, the new highest healing food in the game, needs level 93 Cooking, heals more per bite than an anglerfish, and is used to make extended stamina potions.10
  • Sailing adds a new best healing fish that restores 24 health per bite, which Gnomonkey calls the new best single-bite food in the game.1
  • Leech fins is a new Fishing method giving 60k XP per hour, which Jagex says keeps it competitive without overtaking existing high-efficiency methods, with medium interaction similar to the Moons of Peril fishing activity.11

Gnomonkey's opinion

  • Gnomonkey does not discuss barbarian fishing or minnows in the comparison because he does not consider them as AFK as they are great for XP and money.4
  • Gnomonkey says the combined Fishing and Hunter XP rate of Drift net fishing is absurdly fast, especially given the maximum rate needs only 70 Hunter and 70 Fishing.5
  • Gnomonkey says Fishing is one of the slower skills he would have to do, but he loves to AFK it.2
  • Gnomonkey does not expect the squid fishing spots to shake up XP rates unless they have a two-tick option, but expects them to be a profitable option since the drops are useful.12
  • Gnomonkey says he asked for more hybrid skill methods like drift net fishing on Fossil Island (fishing and hunter) and likes that the blog adds more.7
  • Gnomonkey dislikes that every new Fishing method gives poor XP like Sailing trawling, and wishes leech fins were 80 to 90k XP per hour or AFK at 40 to 50k.13
  • Gnomonkey says he wanted to make a rant video about how horrible shark lures were, but Jagex buffed them first; he notes the issue was that doing minnows would get more sharks per hour anyway and he is unsure if lures are now worth using.14

Events
