Methods

  • Gnomonkey would train Runecrafting through either mud runes or blood runes after Guardians of the Rift, both of which supply lots of GP and have a high pet chance.1

Stats and numbers

  • The colossal pouch makes the Rift Guardian pet grind from other Runecrafting much faster.2

Tips

  • For Guardians of the Rift Gnomonkey brings all his Runecrafting pouches (optionally banking the small pouch to click less), a chisel, and a rune pouch with NPC Contact runes (astral, air, cosmic).3
  • Gnomonkey brings his best pickaxe and any Varrock armour piece, and Prospector gear helps a little; with a crystal pickaxe he wears a crystal signet ring to reduce charges, noting it uses around 50 charges per game.4
  • A mining cape is minorly beneficial for its chance of extra essence (Gnomonkey is not certain it works there); a Runecrafting cape helps prevent pouch degradation until you get the lantern; a max cape is the best choice; Graceful is not needed.4
  • Feeding the main guardian stones gives run energy.5
  • Once you have two or three outfit pieces and/or the lantern, Gnomonkey starts bringing a binding necklace, wearing a tome of fire, and carrying earth and water runes loose to make combination runes, which greatly speeds up games with some multipliers.5
  • Mud runes are incredibly fast XP and GP with the Ring of the Elements, so he would do a mix of that with AFKing blood runes.1

Gnomonkey's opinion

  • Gnomonkey says Daeyalt ZMI gives slightly worse runecrafting XP an hour than regular ZMI but is much more AFK.6
  • Gnomonkey does not think Daeyalt ZMI beats Zeah runecrafting at a higher runecrafting level; he says Blood runecrafting provides a lot of gp an hour and is only a bit worse than ZMI even at his level.7
  • Gnomonkey would bet Blood runecrafting beats ZMI for XP an hour from level 77 to 79.7
  • Gnomonkey says Soul runecrafting should still always give more profit and more XP an hour than Daeyalt ZMI while being of similar intensity.7
  • Gnomonkey says a good reason to use pure essence at ZMI is lacking the quest requirement for the Daeyalt mine, but even with it, pure essence ZMI is a bit faster in XP, much more gp an hour and has double the pet chance.8
  • Gnomonkey personally probably will not use pure essence at ZMI on any account he makes, because it is much less AFK for only a bit more XP in runes.8
  • Gnomonkey says lava runecrafting is still the way to go for faster XP, and that Daeyalt ZMI now seems the best bet for low-intensity runecrafting.8

Records

  • Gnomonkey got about 63k runecrafting XP an hour at level 86 using Daeyalt ZMI without being fast at banking or crafting, and says it could easily be higher; worse pouches or a lower runecrafting level would give a bit less.9
  • Gnomonkey made about 300k gp profit an hour at Daeyalt ZMI, noting this is not per hour of mining since time is spent mining the essence.9
