Quests is a skill topic that Gnomonkey covers in 3 videos between 2024-07-07 and 2025-10-15. This article is a stub: his statements are grouped by type, repeated ones merged.

Requirements

  • In RS3, a quest (Gnomonkey recalls 'One Piercing Note') is required for the Devotion ability, which makes protection prayers 100% effective for about 10 seconds instead of the usual 50%, and many bosses one-shot players who lack it.1

Stats and numbers

  • RS3 has maybe 30% more quests than Old School, many of them grandmaster quests, and that they are longer and harder and often required for combat.1

Tips

  • The OSRS Wiki has an efficient questing guide, and the Quest Helper plugin takes the chore work out of questing.2
  • To max combat stats as quickly as possible through questing or Nightmare Zone, and that the answer to 'can I do X with Y stats' is always to get 99.3

Gnomonkey's opinion

  • Gnomonkey highly recommends doing every quest as quickly as possible and training stats along the way to meet the quest requirements.4
  • Gnomonkey says more recent quests such as Desert Treasure 2 help players learn PvM mechanics and ease them into raiding.5
  • Gnomonkey says the early quests required in Leagues (Restless Ghost, Priest in Peril, Rune Mysteries, which is a remade quest taking an hour) are not RS3's good quests; the loved ones are the late grandmaster quests.6
  • Gnomonkey notes subreddit advice to skip questing for points, but says many quests are very long and unlock combat abilities and bosses so you cannot skip them.7
  • Gnomonkey finds quests extremely unenjoyable and says questing in Old School RuneScape is a set of chores he has to get through rather than a draw.8
  • Gnomonkey says the only quest he enjoyed going through is the stealth section of Monkey Madness 2, which he loves speedrunning and completes in about 20 minutes.9
  • Gnomonkey found the survey's question about satisfaction with the total number of quests released in 2025 confusing, and answered neutral because he did not understand what answering dissatisfied would mean.9
  • Gnomonkey says Scrambled was pretty good and he liked the mini bosses in the Doom quest, which were the only two 2025 quests he did.10
  • Gnomonkey says the quest questions assume you like quests, and he thinks the survey needs a skip button.11
  • Gnomonkey prefers quests that continue storylines, since quests that start new storylines would be low level.11
  • Gnomonkey would like to see the Ritual of the Mahjarrat quest come to Old School because it brought Glacors, which he finds really fun to kill; he says he mostly just wants to kill the monsters from a quest rather than follow its storyline.12
  • When asked what matters most in new quests, Gnomonkey picked challenging combat, exciting new rewards and new areas to explore, saying he only cares about what the quest gives you.13
  • Gnomonkey says the shorter a quest the better, and he would like more quests like RS2's Nomad's Requiem, a half-hour grandmaster quest with a big challenging boss at the end, asking why every grandmaster quest is four to eight hours.13
  • Gnomonkey remembers the Sea Slug quest as kind of cool, tying in with Pest Control, and says the Void Waker is something he would be fine seeing added.14

Trivia

  • Gnomonkey jokes that his editor Hedron never does her quests and diaries, so she has to run from Barrows to get her salves imbued and pays the boatman to do hard mode Theatre of Blood because she did not do her Night at the Theatre quest.15
