Methods

  • To survive the Doom of Mokhaiotl slams you attack stalagmites (zero tick): shooting the first sets the target and shooting the second spawns an orb that travels from the second to the first in a straight line, protecting you from the slams; it despawns instantly when the slams end.1

Stats and numbers

  • If you are too slow in a Doom of Mokhaiotl cave it spawns grubs, shoots a boulder and then slams the ground repeatedly for 40 damage per slam; the number of slams rises each cave (one in cave 1 as Gnomonkey recalls, five on cave 8).2
  • The Doom of Mokhaiotl orb does not protect you from venom splats, so you must avoid them separately.3

Tips

  • Gnomonkey recommends shooting the first stalagmite as far away as possible so the orb travels a long, straight line, because it uses NPC pathing, which moves opposite to what you would expect, and is hard to follow.4
  • For timing the Doom of Mokhaiotl orb, tag the first stalagmite whenever; when the boss shoots its boulder, get one more shot off and then tag the second, and the orb starts immediately before the slams.5
  • It is safe to ignore the orb and just kill the Doom of Mokhaiotl when the stalagmites appear and it is at about 80 health or lower, but at 100 or more health do the orb protection as you likely cannot beat the slams.6
  • The rock block drags the Doom of Mokhaiotl to the middle of the room, which makes the orb phase easier because stalagmites spawn on both sides, giving a big section of the arena to dodge with the orb.7

Gnomonkey's opinion

  • Gnomonkey says the Doom of Mokhaiotl orb slam attack is effectively a DPS check: the goal is to kill the boss before it happens, and he had not yet survived it on cave 8 at the time of the video.8
  • Gnomonkey says orb phases at the Doom of Mokhaiotl are horrible and murder you, so you want enough DPS in the car phase to avoid them.9

  • He got only four orb phases in 23 delves of the Doom of Mokhaiotl using this tech.10

Events

  • A minor patch changed the Doom of Mokhaiotl orb phase by giving it an extra tick of protection at the end, so it drops you out of the orb less quickly; Gnomonkey says this makes a big difference and the attack more manageable, though he still finds it brutal.11
  • Developers stated the orb will clear poison and that the orb now stays if you kill the boss as the stalagmites spawn, so you might be able to set it up after the boss dies to clear acid or poison; he says it is possible but unconfirmed.12
