Tips

  • A character doing Corp with 30 million gp gear probably lacks the elite Desert diary and a house pool, so they cannot restore special attack.1
  • An Ironman can use Rimmington house teleports, but he does not think Ironmen can use another player's house, and there is no way to get spec back without a pool.1
  • The Dragon dagger special is an extremely good spec on Tormented demons, because the guaranteed hit makes this inaccurate hard-hitting spec effective, with Burning claws best if you have them and the Abyssal dagger slightly better than the Dragon dagger.2
  • Burning claws, dropped by Tormented demons, are amazing early and a great best spec weapon for a long time on an iron, especially with bad gear.3
  • Sipping from a spec pool removes the Surge potion cooldown immediately, so at any boss you spec-tab you can use a dose every kill (for example Vorkath, Zulrah with scrolls or Sire).4

Gnomonkey's opinion

  • Gnomonkey notes there are not many spec-tab bosses now because recent design places bosses far from teleports, so the potion gives bonus value only in a limited number of cases.5
  • Gnomonkey says he does not think Surge potions are worth an inventory slot at the Colosseum, where inventories are crammed, as it is only an extra half a claw.5
  • Gnomonkey says Chambers of Xeric has so much downtime that Surge potions would only matter for hammers at Ice demon-style spec rooms like Ulm-adjacent rooms or extreme speed runs, and he does not see them being brought for normal Chambers, calling them utter min-maxing.6
  • Gnomonkey says special attacks are some of the best forms of skill expression because they often require bringing multiple items, and that if Jagex adds power creep, spec weapons are a good way to do it.7
  • Gnomonkey says he would rather have interesting spec weapons than weapons that simply hit hard like Tumeken's shadow or the Twisted bow.8
