Movement is a mechanic topic that Gnomonkey covers in 1 video on 2022-05-11. This article is a stub: his statements are grouped by type, repeated ones merged.

Methods

  • Gnomonkey includes understanding character pathing, avoiding tile hazards and managing monster movement in the movement pillar.1
  • Our character moves by teleporting two tiles per tick and can move in a square of directions each tick; Gnomonkey says the easiest place to learn exactly how this works is Hallowed Sepulchre.2

Tips

  • Mastering Hallowed Sepulchre floor five gives a deep understanding of all forms of L-running and diagonal movement, while the other floors teach it more simply and progressively.3
  • Learning to Woox walk Vorkath is a surprisingly great foundation for many later encounters.3
  • Dodging floor attacks in Theatre of Blood and Chambers, Olm cycles and Sotetseg maze all require very solid movement understanding.4

Gnomonkey's opinion

  • Gnomonkey says monster movement (corner traps, southwest tile shenanigans, safespots) is even more complicated and there are few places to learn it; he highly recommends Giant Mole and Dagannoth Kings.5
  • Gnomonkey calls Giant Mole 'basically an Inferno melee, he even digs', and says messing with safespots around her lair gives a solid foundation for Inferno melee monsters; Dagannoth Rex safespots help too.5
  • Movement is important in every high-level PvM encounter (Gauntlet, Chambers, Theatre of Blood and especially Inferno); Gnomonkey says Inferno is the only one needing a solid understanding of both your own movement and monster movement.6
