Stats and numbers

  • Newer updates typically get about a two-week window of constant bug fixes from Jagex, and then that content is not fixed again for a long time, so early feedback is extremely important.1

Tips

  • Players can give Sailing feedback through the in-game method and the Discord that will be started.2

Gnomonkey's opinion

  • Gnomonkey says Sailing has become politicised, with two camps: people who despise Sailing and think anything tied to it is bad, and a devout cult of Sailing who think it can do no wrong.3
  • Gnomonkey says the anti-Sailing camp will hate things like the Griffin boss as soon as they require Sailing, while the pro-Sailing camp treats bugs as charming and criticism as monstrous, and calls both camps equally stupid.4
  • Gnomonkey says Sailing is not a skill he hates or loves; he voted for it, thinks a lot of good could come from it, but sees lots of room to add to it and says it needs improving or it will not be a good skill.5
  • Gnomonkey argues that devoutly loving Sailing and devoutly hating it both make the skill worse, because the polarised camps make genuine feedback almost impossible.6
  • Gnomonkey says someone who deflects all criticism of Sailing is maybe a worse problem than haters, because they interact with Sailing without helping it improve.7
  • Gnomonkey begs players to exit the camps and sit in the middle, giving specific feedback such as liking one training method while another needs a lot of work.8
  • Gnomonkey says he hates the politicisation of anything in a video game and that what matters is making the game good rather than being right.2
  • Gnomonkey is concerned about the launch because of the hate and love camps and urges players to focus on giving Jagex the feedback needed to make Sailing really good for everybody.9
  • Gnomonkey says his main fear before Sailing's release was the extreme politicisation of talking about the skill, and he says he was 100% correct.10
  • Gnomonkey describes a Reddit echo chamber around Sailing in which feedback about things not working is downvoted heavily and YouTube comments are brigaded, with people saying Sailing is good and critics should shut up.11
  • Gnomonkey argues that saying 'I am having fun, so everyone else should too' ignores that different players want different things from Sailing, and that improvements for others do not hinder you.12
  • Gnomonkey says RuneScape's golden age and high player counts are due partly to Jagex listening, with J mods talking on Reddit and Discord and players able to give immediate brutal feedback, as with the rioting and cannons in the past.13
  • Gnomonkey says he has never seen more toxic positivity than at Sailing's launch, citing a thread where someone said the dragon ship upgrades take about 70 hours and replies mocked giving feedback on day four.14
  • Gnomonkey says many problems with raids, Slayer and other content were only fixed by quality-of-life updates years after release.15
  • Gnomonkey rejects the argument that anyone who dislikes Sailing just dislikes skilling, saying he has a max cape, enjoys skilling, and that Agility is his favourite skill.16
  • Gnomonkey says 'Sailing is better than Firemaking' is not an excuse, because Firemaking is basically just Wintertodt and weak, and many skills need fleshing out, Sailing among them.17
  • Gnomonkey says Jagex has made many good skilling updates in recent years, naming hunter rumours, calcified rocks for Mining and the Varlamore content, and that Runecrafting has been fleshed out compared with five years ago.18
  • Gnomonkey asks the community to stop toxicity toward individuals, to stop calling for permanent bans on him, and to give a plus one or like to others' pain points even when they do not personally mind them.19
