Main source WIKI GUIDES - VARDORVIS

The Wiki Guides series is a challenge in which Gnomonkey completes boss content using the worst gear that the OSRS Wiki's gear setup template suggests, deliberately in bad faith. He then redoes the boss with a better setup that spends the same amount of gp, to show where the wiki is misleading.1 To pick the improved setup, he takes the total budget of the bad setup, which is usually fairly high because of the poor suggestions, and spends it on a much easier setup.5

He repeatedly stresses that the series is not an attack on the wiki: he considers it the best video game wiki he knows, and his criticism is aimed only at the gearing template and the table format, which he finds unhelpful outside the Max, Mid, Min, Iron and Pure tiers.6789 Some people were offended and he gets frequent comments claiming he hates the wiki.68 He says he will not revise the wiki himself, because it takes a lot of time and people would revert anything he adds out of spite.9

2024 run

The first run took place in May 2024 and ended on 1 June. By the end he called the Whisperer run the most interesting he did, and in the finale said it was likely his last wiki guide because they were becoming stale.310

Boss Date Notes
The Whisperer 2024-05-10 Worst downgrades: Infinity hat and Farseer, a prayer mitre instead of the Farseer helmet, Amulet of power, skill cape, combat bracelet, Wizard boots and a Seers ring.211 First kill took 448.6 seconds (about 7:28), "not that bad".12 He notes the wiki lists Mage's book as a downgrade to Malediction ward although it is more expensive and harder to get, and calls the highest-tier gear fairly accurate except the Eldritch nightmare staff special over a Cursed sceptre.1314
K'ril Tsutsaroth 2024-05-12 Skull sceptre, glory, skill cape and Wizard boots.15 Other magic setups downgrade imbued cape, then fire or Inferno cape before a skill cape, but this page goes straight to the skill cape.16 He questions listing autocast items when players face-tank K'ril and cast manually.17 He found the challenge more fun than expected and the upgrade a lot better than he thought.18
Vardorvis 2024-05-13 Skill cape, tank body and legs, Zombie axe and Elysian spirit shield; also Amulet of strength or power, regen bracelet, rune boots, Lightbearer and a special attack weapon.1919 The Elysian spirit shield should not be in the list for accounts without a rune defender or Dragonfire shield.20 He tested both amulets on a dummy, ran the Amulet of power, and brought both, using the Amulet of strength for the final special hits; he treats slash entries as "use the worst one".212223
Corporeal Beast 2024-05-16 The low-price-range setup is "horrendous and not worth it even for an Ironman"; he asks why a leaf-bladed spear is suggested and says nobody knows.2425 He failed to get a kill in the original low-drain setup and stamped it as technically possible but stupid before using a real setup.26 He had mostly ignored the wiki's text descriptions earlier but followed this one.27
Vorkath 2024-05-18 The worst downgrade is a Rune defender, which he did not own, so he first got one from the Warriors Guild cyclopes (not the higher-level hairy cyclopes) with Vorkath downgrade gear and an attack cape, finding granite gloves very bad; the drop took about 10 seconds.28293031 He chose melee Justiciar partly because the wiki lists an Armadyl godsword as its worst spec.32
Tombs of Amascut 2024-06-01 The guide lists melee, ranged and magic setups containing items to never bring, such as a DFS and a Ring of Suffering; he attempts a 500 with the worst choice in each.3 He learned of Mixed hide only from this guide and found the run super difficult.3334

Other planned episodes: a Challenge Mode Chambers of Xeric run in wiki gear, blocked while the mage thrall was broken and would not turn the Olm head, and Muspah as a Vardorvis-style follow-up; he said he would avoid Wilderness bosses on stream.35283 He brings thralls in all episodes as he always does.36

2025 revival

In September 2025 the series returned because the Twitch September goal for Wiki Guides was reached; Yama was the first boss.437 The next goals were a community day, a No Pillar Coliseum run and a possible PvP collaboration with Oda.37

A viewer, Toma, pointed out that the wiki's revision history contains very old, terrible Vorkath setups, which led to a second Vorkath episode on 6 September using an even worse variant.9 Gnomonkey says digging through revision history for the worst variant would make any page look bad, so this is a fun concept rather than a criticism.9 On old setups, slots are often missing; his rule was that any empty slot stays empty, so he wore nothing in his glove, boot and helmet slots.38
