Summary

A guide to beating the 5 Jad and 6 Jad Inferno Jad challenges in the simplest way possible, aimed at players who only want one completion for the Inferno Jad pet transmog. It covers gear, inventory, how the challenge Jads and healers behave, the attack-timing pattern of five Jads, and a narrated 6 Jad run. Gnomonkey's main takeaway is that the strategy only goes so far and success comes from repeated attempts to learn the prayer timings.

Topics covered

Jad Challenge

  • (0:00) The Jad Challenge is brand new PvM content, released in March 2021, for players who have completed the Inferno.
  • (0:00) Players with a fire cape can access the first two Jad Challenges (1 Jad and 2 Jads at once); the next four challenges, from 3 to 6 Jads, can only be accessed by players who own an infernal cape.
  • (0:00) The 1 and 2 Jad challenges are good for people who want to get more comfortable with the Inferno Jads.
  • (0:00) Completing the 6 Jad challenge unlocks a transmog that turns Jad pets into the Inferno variant, and the challenges also reward some tokkul for challenges completed.
  • (0:27) The Jad Challenge is located just south of the Mor Ul Rek bank chest.
  • (1:54) Gnomonkey says 4 Jads and under should be fairly simple to do with some attempts, so his video focuses on 5 and 6 Jads as by far the hardest challenges.
  • (1:54) For 5 and 6 Jad, Gnomonkey highly recommends re-entering without pre-potting for a while to practise the prayer timings, which helps a lot.
  • (1:54) The Jads in the challenge have spaced-out attack cycles that are relatively normal (for the lower challenges).
  • (3:53) Gnomonkey says anything that reduces the number of clicks you have to do helps dramatically with the Jad Challenge.
  • (3:53) If you are overhealed it is impossible for Jad to one-shot you; Gnomonkey says it is absolutely possible to take Jad hits (he took multiple in his successful run) and what matters is how you deal with them.
  • (3:53) After taking a Jad hit, do not panic: eat an anglerfish in between the Jad cycles, repeat until back to stable health, then click back on Jad and refocus on prayer switching.
  • (3:53) If you get an unlucky spawn where several healers attack you, you may need to heal while killing the starting Jads.
  • (4:23) Gnomonkey says strategy only helps so much and what matters in the Jad Challenge is throwing attempt after attempt until the prayer timings are down.
  • (7:43) Gnomonkey says six Jad is much simpler than five Jad in layout but much harder anyway, since from the north Jad all the way around to the northwest Jad there is no delay between attacks.
  • (7:43) In 6 Jad you must switch prayer each tick an attack comes out; Gnomonkey waits for a Jad's projectile to be on screen before switching, and if the Jads are alternating you can just click the next prayer as soon as your prayer activates.
  • (8:13) In 6 Jad the only time you can really do other actions is after the northwest Jad's attack at the end of a full cycle, when there are two ticks before the next Jad's attack is fired.
  • (8:43) Gnomonkey notes five Jads is barely any easier than six, since you still have tick-perfect timing for five attacks and just get one extra tick in between cycles.
  • (9:38) In Gnomonkey's 6 Jad run he tanked several Jad hits, including one for 98 while healers were also attacking him, healed up carefully when possible and still completed the challenge.

Jad Challenge

  • (0:27) Gnomonkey highly recommends a twisted bow for 6 Jad; he says it is definitely possible with just a toxic blowpipe but much harder.
  • (0:54) Gnomonkey says supplies are not really the worry in the Jad Challenge, so you want the best ranged DPS gear you can get.
  • (0:54) Elite void ranged is significantly worse DPS than Armadyl against Jad because of Jad's high defence, around 4% worse, and also gives worse defence, so Gnomonkey does not recommend void.
  • (0:54) Gnomonkey's recommended gear for the Jad Challenge is max ranged: Armadyl, Pegasian boots, Anguish, Barrows gloves and dragon arrows; he says you can downgrade to god d'hide and still easily get the completion.
  • (0:54) At 99 Prayer, the inventory for 5 Jad and under needs around three prayer potions plus a Divine ranging potion, with the rest being your best food and optionally some chinchompas.
  • (1:24) For 6 Jad, Gnomonkey adds another prayer potion to be safe, and says that one extra anglerfish can be the difference maker.
  • (1:24) Chinchompas are great for tagging healers but very difficult to use before you have killed one or two of the Jads in harder modes; Gnomonkey tags healers with his twisted bow personally.
  • (1:24) Chinchompas speed things up significantly and are basically necessary if you use a blowpipe; the type of chinchompa does not matter, and in March 2021 grey and red chinchompas had similar prices so he says red chins were probably best.
  • (1:54) You can pre-pot a Divine ranging potion, or Bastion potion, and anglerfish up to 121 HP before entering the Jad Challenge.
  • (1:54) You can optionally pre-pot an imbued heart as it gets reset every attempt, but Gnomonkey says it makes a very small difference for tanking Jad's magic hits.

TzTok-Jad

  • (2:28) Inferno Jads are tougher than regular Jad: max hit 113 versus 97 for normal Jad, the same defence level of 480, nastier combat stats, and 350 HP versus 250 for regular Jad.
  • (4:30) In the five Jad challenge the east and southeast Jads have no delay between their attacks (one tick per attack).
  • (4:50) In the five Jad challenge there is a one-tick delay between the southeast Jad's attack and the southwest Jad's attack, and another one-tick delay between the southwest Jad and the west Jad.
  • (4:50) In the five Jad challenge the west and northwest Jads have no delay between attacks, so they attack each tick, followed by another one-tick delay before the east Jad and the cycle repeats.
  • (5:18) In the five Jad challenge the two Jads on the west and northwest have tight timing and the two Jads on the east and southeast have tight timing, which determines the kill order and when you can click a healer or use a supply.
  • (5:18) Gnomonkey's 5 Jad approach is to only click healers or use supplies when not being attacked by Jads with tight timing, and to kill one Jad from each tight-timing set before moving on to the others.
  • (5:18) Gnomonkey starts the five Jad challenge with the northern Jad, standing on a tile that gives the highest chance of healers getting stuck and corner-traps most of the healers, typically letting only one healer hit him.
  • (5:49) After the first Jad, Gnomonkey moves on to the southeastern Jad, which he calls the last Jad with tight timing, then the southwestern Jad with the tightest timing remaining; after that the kill order does not matter and the run is basically over if you make no major mistake.
  • (6:43) It would technically be better to run all the way to the southwest tile of a Jad to get more healers stuck, but Gnomonkey avoids it when it makes Jad's attacks harder to see.

Jad healers

  • (2:28) In the Jad Challenge every Jad spawns 5 healers, compared with only 3 healers for the triple Jads in the Inferno, which makes it basically impossible to out-DPS the healers with a twisted bow the way you could with regular Jad.
  • (2:56) Challenge Jad healers are harder than Fight Caves healers: max hit 18 versus 14 for regular healers, 100 HP instead of 60, and higher stats across the board.
  • (2:56) Two to three healers attacking you can easily kill you if you are slow to attack Jad, so Gnomonkey says it is important to be smart about how you attack them.
  • (2:56) Unlike the Fight Caves, where healers within four tiles of Jad heal him, in the Jad Challenge healers have to be untagged and right next to Jad in order to heal him.
  • (3:24) If a healer is stuck behind you, other healers, or even another Jad, it cannot heal Jad even if you have not tagged it.
  • (3:24) Healers spawn in random locations but always walk towards the southwest tile of Jad until next to him, so you can stand in line with the southwest tile of the Jads to get as many healers stuck behind you as possible.
  • (3:24) Only tag a healer close to Jad when it is on the opposite side of him; healers stuck behind another healer do not need to be tagged.

Inferno

  • (0:00) The Jad Challenge is gated behind completing the Inferno, with a fire cape giving access to the first two challenges and an infernal cape required for 3 to 6 Jads.
  • (2:28) In the Inferno itself, the triple Jads only have 3 healers each, compared with 5 healers per Jad in the Jad Challenge.

Twisted bow

  • (0:27) Gnomonkey highly recommends a twisted bow if attempting the 6 Jad challenge, though it can be done with just a blowpipe.
  • (1:24) Gnomonkey uses his twisted bow, rather than chinchompas, to tag healers during 6 Jad.
  • (2:28) Because each challenge Jad has 5 healers, Gnomonkey says it is basically impossible to out-DPS the healers with a twisted bow in the Jad Challenge, unlike regular Jad.
