Topics covered
Leagues V: Raging Echoes
- (0:00) Leagues 5 (Raging Echoes) was about to launch a few days after this video (the release date linked in the description is November 27, 2024); Leagues is a temporary ironman-locked game mode where players are restricted to certain areas and unlock more by completing tasks.
- (0:00) Leagues 5 gives massively buffed XP rates, relics that give large buffs to skills, utility and combat, and a unique Echo boss fight in each region with very powerful item drops.
- (0:00) Gnomonkey says this guide is his perspective on having fun rather than a min-maxing spreadsheet, and that choosing a non-meta pick to have more fun elsewhere is never a bad idea.
- (0:29) In Leagues 5 every player starts with Misthalin and Karamja unlocked, neither of which has an Echo boss; completing tasks then lets you choose a first, second and third region, and the order matters because a first region without early-game boosts can make the start much harder.
- (1:04) In Leagues 5 each raid can drop a mega rare note instead of the usual Scythe, Twisted bow or Shadow, so every raid has access to every mega rare item and you are not locked to one raid for a build.
- (1:04) In Leagues 5 raid purples drop for every person in the team if anyone rolls one, so group raids will farm purples extremely quickly.
- (1:04) In Leagues 5 partial drops that normally need combining, such as the Ultor ring, Rancor and Avernic components, drop as the completed item, so for example choosing Morytania means you do not need Asgarnia to finish an Avernic defender.
- (18:39) Gnomonkey considers Leagues 5 one of the most well-rounded Leagues to date, with something for skillers chasing the Dragon cup, players wanting a challenge, and those wanting to try late-game content.
- (18:55) Gnomonkey says all the Echo items and relics are in the Gearscape DPS calculator, which can also generate setups using only items in your bank or only items available in your region.
- (21:00) Gnomonkey considers it strange that magic was shafted while ranged dominates the Leagues 5 combat masteries, and says more thought on the combat relics would have helped; he also notes the Echo bosses were downplayed on stream.
Morytania
- (1:34) In Leagues 5, Morytania has Theatre of Blood, Araxxor, Nightmare and an Echo boss, and Gnomonkey says it has great value for combat and skilling.
- (1:34) In Leagues 5 the Gloves of the Damned drop from an Echo boss in Morytania and double the effect of Barrows sets; Gnomonkey says the only relevant set is Dharok's, which gives a double damage bonus.
- (2:02) Gnomonkey says Dharok's at 1 HP is the highest possible DPS in Leagues 5 over any other build, making it a very powerful melee choice.
- (2:02) Araxxor also drops the Amulet of rancor and Noxious halberd in Leagues 5, and Morytania contains Trouble Brewing, Hallowed Sepulchre, the Slayer Tower and blood shards for Blood fury.
- (2:02) Gnomonkey considers Morytania a must-pick for melee and a solid option for other builds in Leagues 5.
Desert
- (2:32) In Leagues 5 the Desert region's Echo boss is the Kalphite Queen, which drops the Drygore blowpipe, a hybrid of the Drygore weapons and the Toxic blowpipe.
- (2:32) Gnomonkey considers the Drygore blowpipe a very good flex ranged weapon for other builds and a solid option for ranging early in Leagues 5.
- (2:37) The Desert region in Leagues 5 has Tombs of Amascut (Masori, Osmumten's fang, Lightbearer), a heavily buffed Mage Training Arena for mage gear and training, a gem stall for crafting training and money, and Tempoross for fishing gains.
- (2:37) Gnomonkey thinks the Desert is an excellent ranged build choice in Leagues 5 but can accommodate other styles too.
Wilderness
- (3:07) In Leagues 5 the Wilderness Echo boss is King Black Dragon, which drops the Thunder khopesh (a souped-up Voidwaker that calls a double lightning attack on spec and AoE lightning on auto attacks) and the Thousand-dragon ward (an Avernic-like shield with decent defensive stats that protects from all status effects).
- (3:07) Gnomonkey says the Wilderness is not his cup of tea but is a great choice for overall points for Dragon cup grinding, and the Thunder khopesh is amazing for Wilderness Slayer tasks.
- (3:34) The Leagues 5 Wilderness region includes the Chaos Altar for rapid Prayer training, black chinchompas, dark crabs, zombie pirates and buffed Wilderness Agility.
- (3:34) Gnomonkey warns that in Leagues 5 many builds can kill you in a single game tick and that the Wilderness will likely be much more active than in the last Leagues.
Asgarnia
- (3:47) In Leagues 5 Asgarnia includes the God Wars Dungeon and Cerberus, and the Echo boss is Echo Cerberus, which drops a combination of all four godswords, the 'dog sword' that is both a powerful DPS spec weapon and a defence training weapon.
- (4:05) In Leagues 5 Nex drops the Zaryte crossbow and Torva armour, making Asgarnia important for players using the special attack relic; the region also has the Warriors' Guild for defenders, a gem stall, and Pest Control for Void.
- (4:05) Gnomonkey says Void from Pest Control is the best-in-slot DPS gear for ranged in Leagues 5, even over Masori.
Fremennik Province
- (4:16) In Leagues 5 the Fremennik region's Echo boss is the Dagannoth Kings, which drop an Amulet of the Monarchs and an Emperor ring with incredibly souped-up stats.
- (4:37) Gnomonkey says the Amulet of the Monarchs alone has more ranged strength than all ranged-boosting items combined, and the Emperor ring gives +15 ranged strength; together they give a total of +15% magic damage.
- (4:37) Gnomonkey says maximum ranged strength in max Abyssal-range gear in the normal game is +21 before weapons, but in Leagues 5 with the Dagannoth Kings jewelry alone it is +30.
- (4:37) Gnomonkey considers the Fremennik region practically mandatory for any ranged or magic build in Leagues 5, and a potential skip for melee since it is less extreme over the Ultor ring and Rancor from other regions.
- (5:08) The Leagues 5 Fremennik region also includes Vorkath, who drops many useful items including Dragon darts.
Kandarin
- (5:14) Gnomonkey considers Kandarin by far the weakest Leagues 5 region with very little reason to pick it.
- (5:14) The Leagues 5 Kandarin Echo boss is the Thermonuclear smoke devil, which drops the Devil's element offhand that doubles elemental weakness bonuses where applicable.
- (5:35) Gnomonkey says very few bosses have elemental weaknesses, very few of them are in raids, and that Piety unlocked in Kandarin can be avoided with the Grimoire relic.
Tirannwn
- (5:37) In Leagues 5 the Tirannwn (Elf lands) Echo boss is Echo Hunllef, which drops the Crystal Blessing that makes Crystal armour's bonus apply to melee gear, which Gnomonkey says is usually roughly 10% better DPS than Torva.
- (6:03) In Leagues 5 the Echo Hunllef fight has no prep phase: you are handed a full prep and a full tier 3 arsenal to fight it.
- (6:03) Zalcano in Tirannwn drops a blowpipe with more ranged strength than the Kalphite Queen's pipe, along with full trident drops, and the region offers Prifddinas elf thieving, the ore mines and crystal imps.
- (6:03) Gnomonkey considers the Tirannwn region too small to benefit any build much; only melee sees a big benefit from the crystal armour, and even then another region might benefit the account more.
Kourend
- (6:35) In Leagues 5 Kourend's Echo boss is Hespori, which drops a super salamander with a five-tick attack speed that is not powerful; Gnomonkey says it is very funny but not a reason to pick the region.
- (6:35) Kourend in Leagues 5 offers Chambers of Xeric, Konar and her Slayer dungeon with Hydra, Wintertodt, Sarachnis and varied skilling sub-regions.
- (7:02) Gnomonkey says Kourend is particularly good for mages, who can get both a Shadow and Ancestral robes there, and a potential flex for melee thanks to spec weapons like the Dragon claws, bulwark and Elder maul.
Varlamore
- (7:02) Varlamore is a new area added with Leagues 5 and has the most dangerous Echo boss, Echo Sol (Sol Heredit), the only boss placed in the Grand Master difficulty tier, with no waves: you jump straight into fighting him.
- (7:15) Echo Sol drops the Sunlight bracers, gloves that double all healing from all sources including Redemption and Blood fury, and the Sunlight spear, a two-handed spear and shield combo with a stacking special attack that unleashes a prayer-bonus-scaling AoE spec after seven auto attacks.
- (7:15) Gnomonkey considers the Sunlight spear fairly weak compared to other options and the Sunlight bracers useful but boring in design.
- (8:05) Varlamore in Leagues 5 has the Colosseum (a strong money generator, also dropping Echo boots, the glaive and quiver), Moons of Peril with powerful early-game gear, Vardorvis, the best-stocked gem stall in the game, house thieving, Prayer training and mining, and sulphur nagua for combat XP.
- (8:05) Gnomonkey says Varlamore does not dramatically boost any one build but will be a very fun region to mess with.
Combat Masteries
- (8:41) Combat Masteries is a new Leagues 5 system: a separate relic system purely for combat, unlocked through specific combat tasks, with up to six points spendable on each combat style and a total of ten points possible across the league.
- (9:02) Gnomonkey says the Combat Masteries tasks are very easy, such as killing a hill giant, defeating ten monsters over combat level 100, Scurrius, a monster requiring 55 Slayer, Jad and reaching combat level 100, so you can feasibly unlock two-tick attack speed for your style on the first day; the bonus four points come from the Echo bosses and defeating Zuk.
- (9:02) Each Combat Mastery tier also unlocks a passive ability, ranging from saving weapon charges into more healing, increased accuracy, damage reduction, a Prayer point increase and finally prayer penetration.
Leagues V: Raging Echoes
- (9:29) Leagues 5 melee mastery tier 1 gives a 25% chance to roll damage twice and take the higher roll, which Gnomonkey says is a quite big average DPS increase.
- (9:29) Leagues 5 melee mastery tier 2 gives a 10% chance to generate an echo hit dealing 50% of your initial hit; Gnomonkey says this is less DPS than tier 1 but can generate massive hits.
- (10:04) Leagues 5 melee mastery tier 3 gives 80% attack speed rounded down, strengthening early four-tick weapons such as the Rune scimitar.
- (10:04) Leagues 5 melee mastery tier 4 gives a 5% chance to heal 40% of damage dealt, which Gnomonkey equates to about one-third of a permanently attached Blood fury but with larger, rarer heals.
- (10:28) Leagues 5 melee mastery tier 5 gives 50% attack speed rounded down, producing a two-tick Scythe and a three-tick Dharok's set.
- (10:31) Leagues 5 melee mastery tier 6 raises echo hits to a 20% chance and lets them chain off each other up to eight times, a 1 in 80,000 chance of a full chain; Gnomonkey says it is a small DPS increase but allows crazy RNG boss kill times.
- (10:31) Gnomonkey considers melee a very solid Leagues 5 choice but ranged far stronger.
Leagues V: Raging Echoes
- (10:58) Leagues 5 ranged mastery tier 1 sets a minimum damage roll of 30% of your max hit, which Gnomonkey says is incredibly good with fast weapons.
- (10:58) Leagues 5 ranged mastery tier 2 increases the max hit of each subsequent ranged hit by 5%, stacking up to 20% and then resetting.
- (10:58) Leagues 5 ranged mastery tier 3 gives faster attack speed, which reduces two-tick ranged weapons to one tick, so you can have a one-tick Toxic blowpipe within seconds of starting the game.
- (11:27) Leagues 5 ranged mastery tier 4 heals 5 hit points on every fifth ranged hit, which Gnomonkey notes is reliable HP usable for tick eating if you hit.
- (11:27) Leagues 5 ranged mastery tier 5 gives the same attack speed boost as melee, producing a two-tick Twisted bow and two-tick Zaryte crossbow.
- (11:27) Leagues 5 ranged mastery tier 6 means ranged attacks no longer miss, which Gnomonkey says ignores defence such as Bloat's 800 ranged defence and Sol Heredit's 825.
- (11:27) Gnomonkey considers ranged stupidly busted this Leagues because of the combat masteries.
Leagues V: Raging Echoes
- (12:01) Gnomonkey considers magic the weakest build in Leagues 5, saying it is so weak compared to the magic of last Leagues that he suspects Jagex saw its high pick rate and wanted to squash it.
- (12:01) Leagues 5 magic mastery tier 1 makes hits that roll above 90% of max hit hit 50% harder, which Gnomonkey says rarely procs; tier 2 increases magic max hit by 5% per tick between attacks, which he calls super bad.
- (12:30) Leagues 5 magic mastery tier 3 gives faster attack speed; tier 4 heals 10% of damage dealt when rolling over 90% of max hit, which Gnomonkey says heals far more than other styles and ideally stacks with Blood barrage; tier 5 is a two-tick Shadow and Barrage.
- (12:30) Leagues 5 magic mastery tier 6 increases max hit by 1% per 100 hit points remaining on the target, up to 10%, and you max if the target is below your weapon's max hit.
- (12:57) Gnomonkey notes that with the Devil's element you can cast a 100 max hit Fire Surge at an Ice demon in Leagues 5.
Leagues V: Raging Echoes
- (13:15) Gnomonkey considers the harpoon relic (tier 1, buffing Fishing and Hunter) absurdly better than the mining or woodcutting options, with Hunter perks of faster chinchompas and traps that never fail, especially good with the Hunter Guild in Varlamore.
- (13:15) Gnomonkey says the Leagues 5 woodcutting relic's extra Firemaking effect of never failing to light a log is bafflingly bad, while AFK fishing from the fishing relic will be a great food source.
- (13:54) Gnomonkey picks the Forager relic at tier 2 because buffing Herblore is always solid for ironman modes, saving secondaries 90% of the time and making four-dose potions so he never needs a herb run during the league.
- (14:29) Gnomonkey considers the tier 2 Agility relic nice for passive training but not needed since he already has Sepulchre, and calls Dodgy Deals for thieving GP and blood shards a clear second choice, with Tirannwn-style AFK thieving of Tizar-type guards possible if you have ice gloves.
- (14:53) Gnomonkey says the Clue Compass is the clear best tier 3 relic because its clue-location teleports cover the bank and fairy ring options of the other relics, for example teleporting to a clue stash to bank.
- (15:30) Gnomonkey picks Reloaded at tier 4 to take Dodgy Deals, with thieving options in his region of Vyres for blood shards, Wealthy citizens for GP, and Tizar with ice gloves from Asgarnia for AFK training.
- (15:30) Gnomonkey says the tier 4 Golden God relic for Prayer training only seems exceptional with a house altar or the Wilderness, and calls Equilibrium, buffed to 20% when the trained skill is your lowest, weak and boring.
- (15:59) Gnomonkey picks the Slayer Master relic at tier 5 because being on task all the time, including boss tasks and all of God Wars Dungeon, is a clear choice for PvM; he says Production Master is insanely strong for money from gem stalls and Treasure Arbiter is popular for clues.
- (16:36) Gnomonkey says tier 6 Recall remembers your stats before locking in, useful for abusing specs on bosses and recalling for free spec energy or teleporting to Barrows, while Banker's Note suits skillers; he took the note last Leagues and prefers something different this time.
- (16:58) Gnomonkey picks Grimoire at tier 7 (a new tier this Leagues) because using all offensive prayers and swapping spellbooks gives huge DPS and utility; he says Pocket Kingdom suits bulk resource collection and Overgrown suits players with very limited time.
- (17:42) Gnomonkey considers the tier 8 relics disappointing: Last Stand's ridiculous 3 minute cooldown makes it a non-pick, and the Guardian Horn is just a super thrall for a minor DPS gain, worse than last Leagues since its two-tick resummon tech was patched out.
- (18:24) Gnomonkey considers the special attack relic by far the best tier 8 choice, and says it changed his region pick from the Elf lands to Asgarnia since his only spec options would otherwise be Burning claws and Bone dagger.
Gnomonkey's Leagues 5 plans
- (19:26) Gnomonkey plans to play a melee account in Varlamore, Morytania and Asgarnia, in that order, mainly for Echo Sol content and fun rather than Leagues rewards.
- (19:26) Gnomonkey picks Varlamore first because it has a wide variety of content at all levels, with Moons gear, sulphur nagua for melee training, Prayer training, house thieving, mining, an early Colosseum for GP, and a gem stall with two uncut emeralds and one ruby for Crafting XP and GP.
- (19:54) Gnomonkey picks Morytania second because he needs a Scythe from Theatre of Blood for Echo Sol, enjoys solo ToB, and wants Barrows for Dharok bombing with the Gloves of the Damned; his biggest goal is to 1 HP Dharok bomb Echo Sol if there is no chip damage.
- (19:54) Gnomonkey notes Morytania also gives the Slayer Tower and Trouble Brewing for very fast Fletching, Hunter and Cooking, which he made a new guide on.
- (20:23) Gnomonkey picks Asgarnia third, having first planned Tirannwn for the melee crystal armour, because the special attack relic forces him to want a strong spec weapon; he calls himself a dog sword main, noting it has a stacking Ancient godsword-style spec that can reduce defence, and Nex drops Torva.
- (20:50) Gnomonkey also plans a ranged build to experience more Echo bosses, likely Fremennik, Desert and Asgarnia, without planning it out as much as the melee build.
Echo bosses
- (0:00) Gnomonkey says the Echo bosses are a great way to get PvMers more interested in Leagues 5, and that Echo Sol and Echo Corrupted Gauntlet are geared toward players with a lot of PvM experience.
- (0:01) Gnomonkey says he wishes Jagex added mechanics to Echo items rather than just cranking the stats and making them buffed versions of existing items, and calls the Echo weapons 'eh' and himself slightly disappointed with relics and combats.
