Topics covered
Kick
- (0:26) At the start of this Kick stream, Gnomonkey says the first 25 subs get founder badges and that they are running out very fast.
- (1:55) Gnomonkey says the 7TV emote extension was buggy on Kick, with bugs that had cropped up the day before and that 7TV said they were working on; he got it working through the 7TV command.
- (9:48) Gnomonkey says the one thing Kick has differently from Twitch is that it has no channel points, so he planned to let subs request things like wearing a hat in game.
- (10:18) Gnomonkey agreed on sub-based redeems for his Kick chat, with three subs for hats (as transcribed), and noted the prices of those redeems had gone up quite a bit.
- (18:40) Hoshi gifted 50 subscriptions to Gnomonkey's community on Kick, which broke the activity feed, and a viewer named ABZ later gifted 100 subs.
- (23:28) Gnomonkey said that viewers who missed out on founder badges would be given OG badges instead so they would get something.
- (1:22:58) Gnomonkey explains 7TV on Kick is set up via the extension's onboarding page, where you choose which platforms to connect, select Kick, and go through the whole flow; he says it is in beta and buggy.
- (1:31:33) Gnomonkey says the 7TV emote list button is missing because of a bug reported the day before; typing a colon followed by the emote name still works.
- (3:11:27) Gnomonkey says twelve hour streams are not planned quite yet, but his Kick streams are going to be longer in general.
- (5:49:35) Gnomonkey says his Kick streaming schedule is 5 p.m. to about 1 a.m. PST, and that he is only taking Mondays off.
Gnomonkey
- (43:05) Gnomonkey says he does not typically do tournaments.
- (57:35) Gnomonkey does his duo raids in this stream with an alt account he calls Raddy (Ratty), and he jokes his main is his alt's alt.
- (1:06:54) Gnomonkey says he is 6'2" and that everyone he meets remarks on how tall he is.
- (1:30:02) Gnomonkey says Pendulum has the best tracks and is hard to beat as a band.
- (1:52:16) Asked what the hardest Combat Achievement is, Gnomonkey says his answer is always the one with the highest team scale, whichever requires the most teammates regardless of other stipulations.
- (4:06:11) Gnomonkey says he started playing RuneScape in 2009.
- (4:06:40) Gnomonkey says he has been playing Old School RuneScape since the Fossil Island update, which he thinks was 2017.
- (4:07:41) Gnomonkey says playing efficiency is less about how much you play and more about where you put the hours; doing a hundred thousand hours of AFK amethyst mining would leave you the same as when you started.
Tombs of Amascut
- (48:10) Replying to a viewer with a dry streak, Gnomonkey recommends starting to do solo 515 raids and says the money will roll.
- (56:03) In Tombs of Amascut, Gnomonkey explains that after Baba does a rock-based special attack (dropping rocks or the boulder rolling towards you), the next melee attack makes her swap target; in a full team she swaps to the lowest HP person and in a duo she swaps between the two players.
- (56:03) In duo ToA, Gnomonkey gets Baba onto his main at the very end of the room by tanking a melee, so she swaps to him, then starts the boulder special so her next melee swaps her to his alt Raddy.
- (57:05) Gnomonkey says he really thinks the Tumeken's shadow-style scepter special is bugged on Baba and he might go into an entry-level raid to test landing it.
- (58:55) Gnomonkey says the Elidinis' ward is not really worth using outside of Tombs of Amascut because it lacks defence; he thinks its only realistic uses are ToA and maybe smaller bosses like Zulrah if you do not have a Shadow.
- (1:21:04) Gnomonkey says he has not seen anybody else solo ToA at this level, noting it has been done but pretty much only he does it.
- (1:29:02) In the ToA Wardens phase, Gnomonkey warns that if you do not tank three skulls you get the wrong Warden, and for solos he suggests tanking about four to be safe.
- (1:36:16) Gnomonkey describes his setup for a solo ToA at around invocation 500 as just a Shadow, with no Tumeken's shadow-style extras, Masori or Zaryte crossbow (as transcribed), and calls himself a juicer.
- (1:37:11) Gnomonkey says in solo ToA the Zebak room has extra damage in phase 2 but Zebak can just be handled with max mage, and that the Wardens are where most restores go because you need to spec so many times.
- (1:41:47) Gnomonkey finished a solo ToA run during the stream in 53:21, which he called relatively speedy, before moving on to solo ToB.
Theatre of Blood
- (1:42:51) After the ToA run, Gnomonkey decided he wanted to do solo Theatre of Blood and was aiming for a sub 55 minute solo.
- (1:43:19) Gnomonkey says he had not done a regular-mode solo ToB in years, did a solo hard mode, and found regular solo Nylocas is completely different from hard mode Nylocas, so he does not retain that knowledge.
- (1:48:46) Gnomonkey thinks solo ToB was always possible and says the biggest issue in the early days was the lack of Blood Fury, which made getting past Maiden pretty difficult.
- (2:16:49) Gnomonkey wonders whether a perfect Xarpus is physically possible in a solo raid after his own attempt failed at that room.
- (2:29:52) Gnomonkey agrees that solo ToB is hard to learn while normal team raids are not too bad.
- (2:31:25) In his solo ToB attempt, Gnomonkey swung at Verzik when she showed 35.2% health, thinking she was not under 35% yet, and the raid ended; he said it was not going to be sub 55 anyway.
- (2:49:24) Answering a viewer, Gnomonkey says Maiden calculates her damage on her animation, on the same tick as the stat drain.
Verzik Vitur
- (2:25:38) In his solo ToB, Gnomonkey skipped the Scythe at one room and cast instead, saying that with heart (as transcribed) and full mage robes casting is slightly better because Scythe hit splats are capped at 10 while the spell is uncapped with a decent max hit, and casting does not lose ticks like the Scythe does.
- (2:28:51) Gnomonkey says the lightning attacks in the Verzik fight hit 50 every single time, so you have to tick eat them to survive.
- (2:32:44) Gnomonkey says viewers told him procing the red crabs is tech because the raid just ends and you do not wait the 15 minutes of tick eating, and he tried it.
- (3:25:12) Gnomonkey warns in a solo not to swing at Verzik after she drops under 35%, or the raid will end.
- (3:32:21) In solo ToB, Gnomonkey says if you attack Verzik at any point after the threshold she spawns red crabs which heal her indefinitely, so the only option is to wait for purple crabs to spawn and damage her by poisoning them while you tick eat for 15 minutes.
Nex
- (4:12:44) Gnomonkey did duo Nex runs on the stream, with a viewer named Condor helping in the later runs.
- (4:44:16) In the Nex fight, Gnomonkey says when you are directly underneath her the projectiles hit you instantly with no travel time, so you cannot flick them.
- (4:47:08) Gnomonkey notes the Nex fight exists in a world where you cannot drop items on the ground for other players, and he believes this was carried over from the Nightmare.
- (5:36:57) Gnomonkey says every time he considers doing Nex he remembers he has to spend about ten minutes getting kill count first.
- (5:37:59) Gnomonkey says a ten million coin skip for no kill count needs to be a thing again for Nex; he recalls that in RuneScape 2 wearing full ancestral gave instant full KC, and he thinks the current system maybe works a little better but that running back after each kill is a drawback.
Inferno
- (43:05) Chat asked Gnomonkey about Addy's Inferno Speedrun Tournament, which was announced the previous week with a 500 million coin pot; Gnomonkey had not heard of it and noted it is AFK.
- (44:42) Gnomonkey says he is not really known as a top-end Inferno speedrunner and is not exactly competitive at the top end, as it is not really his deal anymore.
- (45:08) Gnomonkey says he has not completed an Inferno run in over a year, and says Scotty the Chad is just too good.
- (52:08) Gnomonkey says that when he died for the first time in the Inferno he got to around wave 48 and was pretty happy because he got further than he expected.
- (53:09) Gnomonkey says he reached the triple Jads on his first Inferno attempt and made it to the Zuk healers on that run, dying right after killing the last healer to a Zuk hit.
- (1:39:12) Gnomonkey says he spent 38 days camping the Inferno.
- (4:37:27) Chat said Scotty almost got the Inferno world record, pacing sub 41 and then taking a Zuk hit when Zuk was at 26 HP.
- (4:40:10) Gnomonkey says Scotty gets to Zuk pretty consistently, which he cannot do, and that he sees Rasta pull off things like claw specs at 10 health that he does not understand.
- (4:41:43) Gnomonkey says Rasta was shredding from the very beginning, started Inferno at roughly the same time as he did, and was just born for the Inferno.
Opinion: Dying is part of learning content
- (47:40) Gnomonkey says hard raids are not content you are expecting to finish every time, and that if you expect to you will not finish any.
- (48:38) Gnomonkey says every time you enter content you do not know perfectly you are investing in learning it, and that each raid he is still learning something new and refining.
- (49:07) Gnomonkey criticises players who cash out to lower raid levels because they keep dying at higher ones, saying that is very short-term thinking and that learning the higher level fully would make more money overall.
- (49:40) Gnomonkey says that when doing something new he expects to die over and over and treats dying as a cost he has already mentally prepared for.
- (50:09) Gnomonkey says that worrying about the cost of things makes content much harder to play, and he thinks you figure this out once you go for the Inferno.
- (50:36) Gnomonkey says to commit to losing every supply you walk in with and use everything, without questioning each supply you use, calling it the non-poor-man mindset.
- (51:39) Gnomonkey says it is impossible to get your Inferno cape if you get triggered instantly, and that this is not only about supply cost but also about not worrying about dying.
- (53:37) Gnomonkey says that if your mindset shifts a little, everything becomes doable.
Opinion: Item lending in OSRS
- (3:56:15) Gnomonkey says to only lend items you are willing to lose, noting everything he has lent is something he is willing to lose.
- (3:57:15) Gnomonkey says he would only lend a Twisted bow if the borrower had roughly a ten billion coin bank.
- (3:58:22) Asked whether RuneScape 3's lending system has a place in OSRS, Gnomonkey says he does not see an issue with it, noting RuneScape 3 lending could not be used for degradable items so people only lent party hats.
- (3:58:22) Gnomonkey says OSRS has many items that would work well with lending, such as the Twisted bow.
- (4:00:58) Gnomonkey says he once lent a ham joint to a player in the Nightmare who had to step out after his car was hit, and told him to keep the ham joint.
The Leviathan
- (4:21:46) Gnomonkey says the Leviathan is incredibly boring as a boss, with nothing going on.
- (4:21:46) Gnomonkey describes every Leviathan kill as standing on the left side of the arena and clicking the boss until it sends the jellyfish, then clicking the jellyfish, repeating without even needing to shadow barrage.
Opinion: OSRS design inconsistency and engine
- (4:47:41) Gnomonkey says dropped items despawn in instanced fights like Nex because of lag in instances.
- (4:49:04) Asked why items stay in other instances like the Chambers of Xeric, Gnomonkey says the one developer working on a piece of content decides without consulting others, which is why everything is different everywhere.
- (4:49:34) Gnomonkey says prayer flicking as an endgame PvM mechanic exists because some developer coded it that way one day.
- (4:50:06) Gnomonkey says Jagex would probably like to overhaul the engine, but there are so many snowflake accounts and bugs that are now features.
- (4:51:55) Gnomonkey says he believes the original developer Mod Ash knew what a game tick was and probably knew prayer flicking was a thing.
PvM technique names
- (5:07:22) Gnomonkey jokes that he invented butterfly at Akkha but Saxer Pillar stole it from him, saying it used to be called a long 'Akkha kite 5 tick cycle fix shadow hit' name in a private Discord.
- (5:09:25) Gnomonkey says the naming council had to debate a lot for the name butterfly and ended up stealing the worst name.
- (5:12:51) Gnomonkey says Saxer found the Red X technique and was calling it Shadow Step, but everyone went with Red X.
