Topics covered
Woodcutting
- (0:00) Gnomonkey describes Woodcutting as a slow but profitable skill that becomes extremely AFK from level 90 on redwoods.
- (0:00) Woodcutting axes unlock in order: iron at level 1, steel at 6, black at 11, then the next axe every ten levels, up to the dragon axe at level 61.
- (0:00) Gnomonkey says you should buy each next axe as soon as you unlock it, since each axe is tremendously faster than the last.
- (4:13) Completing Monk's Friend, Enlightened Journey, Ichthlarin's Little Helper and the Scratch Oogwee subquest of Recipe for Disaster gives 9,000 Woodcutting XP, taking you from level 1 to level 26.
- (4:32) From level 1 to 15 chop regular trees, upgrading to a steel axe at 6 and a black axe at 11; it takes only 97 logs to reach 15, and the Grand Exchange is a convenient spot.
- (4:48) From level 15 to 30 chop oak trees, for example right outside Castle Wars via a ring of dueling teleport, upgrading to a mithril axe at level 21; it takes 293 oak logs to get from 15 to 30.
- (5:06) From level 30 to 35 chop willow trees, best by Hosidius Lake or alternatively Draynor; upgrade to an adamant axe at level 31, and it takes 134 logs to reach 35.
- (7:16) Gnomonkey says to upgrade to a rune axe at level 41 and a dragon axe at level 61.
- (8:45) From level 90 to 99 chop redwood trees; it would take 20,232 redwood logs to go from 90 to 99.
Dragon axe
- (0:29) The dragon axe cost only 35k GP in 2020, and Gnomonkey says it is a no-brainer to use one once you have the level.
- (0:29) The dragon axe and the special axes above it have the Lumber Up special attack, which boosts Woodcutting level by 3 and increases chop chance slightly; the axe must be equipped to use it, so players without 60 Attack cannot use it.
- (0:29) The Lumber Up boost does not help when you are already boosted beyond level 99, unless you are inside the Woodcutting Guild.
Infernal axe
- (1:03) The infernal axe requires 85 Firemaking on top of the Woodcutting requirement.
- (1:03) The infernal axe has a 33% chance when chopping a log to incinerate it for 50% of the Firemaking XP you would get for burning it.
- (1:03) An infernal axe is made by using a smoldering stone on a dragon axe, which cost about 1.1m GP in 2020, and it provides 5,000 charges, one used per log chopped.
- (1:03) A depleted infernal axe acts as a regular dragon axe and can be recharged with another smoldering stone or by using a dragon axe on it, which consumes that axe and gives another 5,000 charges.
- (1:03) The infernal axe does not work in places like the Wintertodt or on Sulliuscepts and acts as a normal dragon axe there.
- (1:03) Gnomonkey considers the infernal axe especially good at redwoods because of the high XP and low log cost, and says it is nearly free to use when recharged with dragon axes: about 0.04 GP and XP per log in Firemaking terms.
- (1:03) Gnomonkey says upgrading to an infernal axe is a no-brainer because it is also required for a master clue step, and finds it more useful and cost-effective than the crystal axe.
Crystal axe
- (2:06) The crystal axe requires 71 Woodcutting and completion of Song of the Elves.
- (2:06) To make a crystal axe you need a crystal tool seed, a dragon axe and 120 crystal shards, plus 76 Smithing and Crafting to sing it at the singing bowl in Prifddinas; without those levels an elf can make it for 180 crystal shards instead.
- (2:06) The crystal axe has 10,000 charges that degrade with each log chopped; an elven signet gives a 10% chance not to use a charge, effectively 11,000 charges, and the axe chops 4.5% faster than a dragon axe.
- (2:06) If crystal shards could otherwise be used for divine combat potions, the crystal axe initially costs 140 GP a log even with the signet, falling to 120 GP a log after recharging.
- (2:06) A crystal tool seed can be resold by dismantling the axe, but you lose all charges used, so Gnomonkey says to wait until it is out of charges before reselling.
- (2:06) Gnomonkey feels a 4.5% speed increase is not worth the cost for most accounts unless you are very wealthy and despise Woodcutting.
Lumberjack outfit
- (3:34) The Lumberjack outfit gives a 2.5% increase in Woodcutting XP and is, according to Gnomonkey, objectively the fastest skilling outfit you can obtain in the game.
- (3:34) With Morytania Legs 3, the whole Lumberjack outfit takes less than thirty minutes to obtain by killing undead lumberjacks in Temple Trekking.
- (3:34) Gnomonkey says to definitely get the Lumberjack outfit if you have at least Morytania Legs 3, as it saves quite a bit of time overall, and refers to an older video on it that he says is still accurate.
Teak trees
- (5:23) From level 35 to 65 (or even 99) you can chop teak trees, on Ape Atoll, or in the northeastern part of Prifddinas if Song of the Elves is done, where they also occasionally give crystal shards.
- (5:23) AFK chopping teaks gives around 60k XP an hour.
- (5:23) Two-ticking teaks is twice as fast as AFK chopping because it halves the time between chances at logs; you stack two enemies (birds at Ape Atoll, rabbits at Prifddinas) that attack every other tick.
- (5:23) To two-tick teaks you lure an enemy without killing it using a spell like Wind Strike, wield a shortbow and rapid with no ammo, then click the tree, then the ground, so your character auto-retaliates without attacking; when the inventory is full, drop a log instead of clicking the ground.
- (5:23) Gnomonkey calls two-ticking one of the easiest tick manipulation methods in the game and says it is faster and easier than three-ticking, which he would never recommend.
- (5:23) Gnomonkey recommends installing the left-click dropper external plugin to make dropping teak logs easier when two-ticking.
- (5:23) Gnomonkey says two-ticking teaks is the fastest realistic Woodcutting method all the way to 99 if you want the skill done as soon as possible.
- (5:23) Gnomonkey does not recommend 1.5-ticking on Fossil Island, since it is very intensive and difficult for only 25% more XP, and he would only do it to level 65.
- (7:16) If simply AFKing, Gnomonkey says not to chop teaks beyond level 65; it takes 5,024 successful chops to reach level 65.
Blisterwood Eulogy
- (7:16) The Blisterwood tree was an okay Woodcutting training method similar to Ardougne Knights, which Jagex nerfed after only eight days.
- (7:16) Gnomonkey made a video on the Blisterwood method but took it down after only three days, having already written the script.
- (7:16) As of the video there was a poll question on whether the Blisterwood nerf should be reversed, and Gnomonkey urged viewers to vote yes.
- (7:16) Gnomonkey says that if the poll passed, Blisterwood would be a decent alternative to Sulliuscepts since you simply click in place like with Ardougne Knights.
Sulliuscep
- (7:54) From level 65 to 90 chop Sulliuscepts (mushroom trees) on Fossil Island; Gnomonkey says they do not get enough love as they are very AFK with very good XP.
- (7:54) Sulliuscepts are the best provider of fossils in the game, which can be turned in to the museum for XP lamps, giving free Runecrafting XP.
- (7:54) Sulliuscepts are not realistic for extremely low-level skillers because a tar monster's max hit is 11, so you should have at least 12 HP.
- (7:54) Sulliuscepts give up to 100k XP an hour, and completing the fossil exhibits gives 120k XP in lamps in any skill; starting at level 65 you finish them with fossils left over.
- (7:54) Going from level 65 to 90 on Sulliuscepts takes 38,559 mushrooms chopped.
Redwood trees
- (8:45) Redwood trees unlock at Woodcutting level 90.
- (8:45) Gnomonkey calls redwoods some of the most AFK content in the game, one of the few actions where five-minute log doing without stopping is possible.
- (8:45) The best place to chop redwoods is the Woodcutting Guild for the invisible +7 Woodcutting boost.
- (8:45) Redwoods give roughly 60k XP an hour and a profit of about 50k GP an hour if you bank the logs.
- (8:45) Gnomonkey says redwoods are so AFK that many players go for the pet beyond level 99 there while starting to do other things on the side, and he recommends doing your Woodcutting there.
