Summary

Gnomonkey completes the Fortis Colosseum using only fists, with crush bonus maxed as much as possible, after a chatter suggested killing the boss like a Fremennik. The video is a live stream with commentary on pillar tiles (including the so-called Roy tile and Roy tech), invocations, and the Sol Heredit fight. He describes it as almost as difficult as speedrunning Colosseum, with bad invocations, a seven-minute boss kill and over seven perfect grapples, and he clutches it out in the end.

Topics covered

Fist only Colosseum

  • (0:00) Gnomonkey maxed out as much crush bonus as he could to kill his way through Fortis Colosseum using only fists, after a chatter recommended killing the boss like a Fremennik with some punching and kicking.
  • (0:00) Gnomonkey says the fist-only Colosseum run is almost as difficult as speedrunning Colosseum, because there is no out-DPSing anything before the Minotaur and reinforcements arrive.
  • (13:48) On the previous fist-only attempt Gnomonkey got Sol Heredit down to 250 health with a kick-only setup but died.
  • (16:48) Gnomonkey says he is not afraid to use brews during the waves in the fist-only run because he is confident he can do the boss with no brews and thinks brews do not do much for him at the boss.
  • (22:26) Gnomonkey says the monsters have low melee defence, and that an ink-type crush bonus is good for crush accuracy, which is how his fists hit as hard as they do.
  • (31:04) Gnomonkey took Relentless 3 on the final waves, calling it probably the first and last time he would ever pick it, and fought the boss with a torture amulet and a kick/punch setup.
  • (32:00) Gnomonkey notes that punching is a four-tick action.
  • (38:49) Gnomonkey finished the fist-only Colosseum after about 52 minutes, with 14 perfect parries on the boss, a seven-minute boss kill, and received a large stack of sunfire splinters.
  • (39:45) Despite killing the Colosseum boss with his fists, Gnomonkey did not get the Sol Heredit pet drop in this run.

Roy tech

  • (0:56) Gnomonkey calls the Roy tile Giga and describes Roy tech as a meme that is genuinely real and useful technology in Colosseum.
  • (3:20) In a Roy tech example with a mage and a ranger behind it, you pray range and step out so the mage is no longer stuck behind the ranger, and if you step behind the pillar it can slot next to it; with a Twisted bow you could shoot it there.
  • (8:52) Roy tech means keeping line of sight on a mage by stepping to a tile and going up so that it scrapes the enemy down the side of the pillar.
  • (11:20) Gnomonkey says some pillar stacks have no Roy solve and you have to tank a hit, calling tanking a hit the classic Roy solve when a Manticore and Ranger will not see you on the same tick.
  • (12:52) Gnomonkey says for Roy tech you have to be right against the pillar; even one tile away it stops working.
  • (36:40) On a Roy tile solve for a Minotaur stack, Gnomonkey says you need to get to the tile before the Minotaur reaches its tile, and stay there long enough that the Minotaur comes down the side, otherwise it won't work.

Fortis Colosseum pillars

  • (0:20) The video's description says the squares in the middle of the arena (Sol tiles) are available via the !soltiles chat command.
  • (1:51) Gnomonkey's mage block tile is three tiles down from the pillar, letting the mage see you so you can block it and put it behind the Minotaur.
  • (1:51) The Minotaur drag tile pulls a Minotaur from behind things down to you, and the Minotaur heal block is behind the pillar; if you reach the heal block tile before the Minotaur gets there, it never gets line of sight and does not heal its target.
  • (2:20) Gnomonkey's tiles are three below the pillar, one out from the pillar, four down, five down from the pillar for the heal block, and the Roy tile is also five down from the pillar on the other side.
  • (23:43) Gnomonkey says only five Colosseum tiles matter, and really only two, plus the Roy tiles; the tiles are line markers, not tile markers, so a line marker plugin is needed.

Atlatl

  • (1:22) With piety on, the Atlatl kills a Fremennik mage in two shots at three ticks a shot, six ticks in total, the same as a Webweaver bow or blowpipe.
  • (27:09) Gnomonkey says an Ancient mace is not worth using instead of the Saradomin godsword, because he uses the godsword for health: to chunk 50 health on a bad spawn, and he would still use it even if it did not restore prayer.

Colosseum invocations

  • (28:08) Gnomonkey says the thing he dislikes about Colosseum is the random invocations, but that otherwise it is pretty good.
  • (28:08) On wave 11 Gnomonkey took Relentless 2 over Frailty, saying the two are very close but he really does not want Frailty.
  • (28:58) Gnomonkey says the worst wave 11 spawn is a Manticore with something behind it, and that the fact that the ranger and mage spawned far away so he did not take their damage off spawn is what made the wave a spoon.
  • (30:00) If a Manticore sees you on the same tick off spawn as a ranged or mage enemy, it is the same tick with the mage, so noticing that things are off-ticked at the start helps a lot.

Sol Heredit

  • (17:30) Gnomonkey says the only attack he was unsure he would get perfectly in a no-brew boss fight is the protect melee attack.
  • (38:49) Gnomonkey says he got eight perfect parries in a row on Sol Heredit and that the boss did about 14 grapples in the fight, with Gnomonkey perfectly parrying every one.
