Summary
Gnomonkey teaches the solo Great Olm fight in a regular Chambers of Xeric, covering the 12:0 and 8:1 Tumeken's Shadow running methods and the 4:1 lance (Scythe) method. He explains how to get into cycle, null flame walls, deal with acid and crystals, and what to do when something goes wrong.

Topics covered
Great Olm
- (0:00) In the 12:0 Shadow running method Gnomonkey uses marked tiles numbered by the hit of the cycle: hit from one then run to the side and return, hit from two to be dragged and come back, hit from three, a long range hit from four, and hit from five, then repeat one to five until the hand is dead, usually about two cycles.
- (0:55) In the 8:1 Shadow running method you actually tank a hit: a long-range hit from one, run and come back, drag on the hit, then tank a hit in the middle on two, and get dragged on three, repeating.
- (0:55) Gnomonkey says 8:1 is a lot harder than 12:0 because you actually tank a hit.
- (1:28) In 8:1 you tank the hit in the middle because when the head is on flame phase and does a flame wall, standing on that tile nulls it and he just makes a motion with nothing happening; you can equip ranged armour quickly to block some damage.
- (1:58) Gnomonkey says to start with the Shadow because the melee hand cripples if you attack it with melee before the mage hand is dead; the main idea is to hammer the melee hand, switch to mage and start running.
- (2:56) Gnomonkey says it is really important to use a thrall while learning, because the thrall keeps the hand turning all the way; if you splash or the thrall stops attacking, the hand turns mid-way, which makes it hard to learn.
- (3:25) To get into cycle, wait until Olm is about to turn and click from tile one; Gnomonkey says to hit a tick after he turns.
- (4:25) In the 4:1 lance method you go to the thumb, tank two hits, and then do the same thing every cycle, making sure you are hitting on the right tick.
- (4:53) On the thumb with 4:1 there are three outcomes: Olm uses a special attack (lightning, crystals, teleports) then another attack then nothing, so you wait an attack and run when he does nothing; he does two attacks in a row so you run immediately and do a three-to-one; or he stares at you and does nothing, in which case you are already in cycle.
- (8:32) For the crystal phase, Gnomonkey says it is super easy: do an L walk and just keep moving every tick, tanking a hit, then he does nothing and you are in cycle.
- (9:35) If you attack on the same tick Olm turns (the wrong tick) and have a Scythe, you can swing the Scythe to fix it, and it even gives a bit more DPS for that swing.
- (10:00) Gnomonkey says you can start the third phase with the melee hand because it does not clench, and with a hammer you can hammer, wait for him to turn and be in 4:1 every time; with two hammers it is tick perfect.
- (10:38) For acid, Gnomonkey says to just start attacking and do an L walk: step across, hit, come around, hit, hit, and repeat.
- (11:26) Gnomonkey says if you ever lose a tick you should go back to one and start the cycle again; always fix the cycle.
- (11:29) Gnomonkey says to remove boots at Olm if you can because it is a big difference: minus 12 mage accuracy.
- (12:30) For head running, move every time Olm turns so you line up with the cycle, and you tank a hit every four turns in the middle, which nulls flame walls.
- (13:32) Gnomonkey says if you are close and pulled up at the end it reduces the Twisted bow travel time so it kills him slightly faster, and he has never done a solo Olm without a Twisted bow.
- (15:07) Gnomonkey says you can null flame walls in 4:1 by standing on a specific tile when you tank the attack; on either side you tank the attack and then come in and it also nulls the flame wall.
- (15:55) Gnomonkey says dealing with acid and dealing with flame walls are the two things to know and that Shadow running and 4:1 are not hard, you just have to know what to do and not get pulled out of cycle by weird things.
- (18:30) Gnomonkey says you should probably do some team runs before solo Chambers of Xeric because solo is pretty hard.
- (18:57) Gnomonkey says a lot of people are scared of four-to-one and he was too for hundreds of kills because nobody explained it well and there were no good videos.
Chambers of Xeric
- (0:00) The video description says the solo Olm guide was mocked up on stream in a regular Chambers of Xeric, and that 12:0 and 8:1 Shadow running and 4:1 lance method are not tough to learn.
- (16:40) Gnomonkey says you need the long range attack style bound to run Shadow at solo Chambers of Xeric, and he binds a tab for the attack style, which he also finds useful in Chambers and Inferno.
- (17:35) Gnomonkey says his Shadow running method is the same as others on YouTube but he remembers it by labeled tiles and the hits of the cycle.
- (17:42) Gnomonkey says the spec bar is really, really good because it lets you spec out so fast but takes a lot of practice, and he only started using it a couple of months before this stream.
Gnomonkey
- (17:42) Gnomonkey says he is 6'2.
