Topics covered
Chompy bird hunting
- (0:00) All of the western diaries require some amount of chompies to be hunted, which in turn are required to unlock elite Void.
- (0:00) After completing the elite diaries you can keep hunting chompies for further ogre hats or a chance at the Chompy chick pet at a rate of 1 in 500, which Gnomonkey says is the most common pet in the game.
- (0:00) Chompy hunting requires an ogre bow or an ogre composite bow, with the composite bow firing faster and having the same bonuses but slightly less range.
- (0:33) Chompy hunting needs brutal arrows; Gnomonkey uses adamant brutals for a more reasonable cost, but rune brutals are best if you want it over quickly.
- (0:33) The composite ogre bow and brutal arrows require Zogre Flesh Eaters, so Gnomonkey recommends finishing it before starting.
- (0:33) Gnomonkey says Void is not worth using for chompy hunting because the ogre bows have a weird damage multiplier that does not stack with Void, so only the accuracy bonus applies, and even dragonhide gives better accuracy than Void.
- (1:07) Gnomonkey brings 20 ogre bellows, acquired with a drop trick at Rantz's cave by searching the chest and dropping bellows until enough are on the ground; if not using potions he fills the inventory with bellows leaving three free spaces.
- (1:37) Gnomonkey brings divine ranging potions to speed up hunting, since chompies are weak but still not always one-hit because the bow and arrows are awful, and skips prayer potions because they would take too many spaces.
- (1:37) Gnomonkey brings a basket of strawberries because brews cannot be used with divine potions, and strawberries are the highest-healing single-space food besides sweets and brews.
- (2:03) The best place to hunt chompies is on the peninsula south-west of Castle Wars, which seems to have the most frog spawns; reach it with fairy ring code BKP or a ring of dueling to Castle Wars.
- (2:31) To hunt chompies, fill the bellows with swamp gas (either AFK or by spam-using bellows on the bubbles), inflate frogs, and place the frogs on the ground anywhere; each placed frog has a chance to spawn a chompy that can then be shot.
- (2:31) The player can carry a maximum of three inflated frogs at a time, so Gnomonkey keeps three inventory spaces open; extra inflated frogs escape one at a time.
- (2:59) The easy western diaries raise the chance of a second chompy spawning by 25%, the mediums by 50%, and the elites guarantee a second bird.
- (2:59) When completing diaries back to back, Gnomonkey recommends getting the bare minimum chompy kills for each easy and medium diary and leaving to complete those, since they dramatically speed up the process.
- (3:27) Gnomonkey says plucking chompies is not worth it for diaries because it gives only a few feathers, but it is worth it when pet hunting because each hunted and plucked chompy gives a second roll at the pet.
- (3:27) Gnomonkey received his Chompy chick pet from plucking a bird.
- (3:27) Gnomonkey recommends the Chompy Hunter RuneLite plugin, which counts chompies hunted, highlights them and shows a timer; chompies fly away after sixty seconds.
- (3:58) The Chompy Hunter plugin is external, installed from the plugin hub at the bottom of the plugins tab; Gnomonkey says RuneLite endorses these plugins as safe, though some external plugins stop working over time, while this one worked perfectly.
- (4:31) Chompies try to eat frogs placed as bait if they have not yet been attacked, so Gnomonkey tags each chompy in a row and focuses on the ones closest to flying away to avoid depleting his bait.
- (4:31) Standing between the chompies and the frogs helps, since approaching within one tile makes them screech and back off, giving time to shoot them.
- (5:01) With the elite diary completed and plucking most chompies, Gnomonkey got about 285 kills an hour, a rate similar to having just the medium diary and only killing them.
- (5:01) At that rate Gnomonkey says the pet should take an average of about an hour, but his own took three and a half hours.
- (5:33) Gnomonkey says completing the chompy kill requirements up to the elite diary at these rates should take about four hours of chompy hunting.
Western Provinces Diary
- (0:00) Every western diary requires some amount of chompies to be hunted, and completing them is required to unlock elite Void.
- (2:59) The easy western diary adds a 25% chance of a second chompy spawning, the medium 50%, and the elite guarantees a second spawn.
