Topics covered
Shellbane Gryphon
- (0:00) Gnomonkey considers the Shellbane Gryphon, the new mid-level Slayer boss added with Sailing, maybe the easiest boss ever added to the game, easier than Scurrius.
- (0:00) The Shellbane Gryphon is weak to stab, so Gnomonkey brings an Arkan blade.
- (3:02) The Shellbane Gryphon requires 51 Slayer and 45 Sailing, and you must also complete the quest Troubled Tortugans, which unlocks at 45 Sailing.
- (3:02) To fight the Shellbane Gryphon you must unlock it as a Slayer task (Gnomonkey thinks it costs 80 Slayer points) and get it as a task; it can only be killed on task.
- (3:02) To reach the Shellbane Gryphon, use fairy ring CJQ, which takes you very close to the cave entrance just north of it; a Dramen staff is needed unless the diary is done.
- (3:56) The Shellbane Gryphon alternates between an occasional ranged attack and a melee attack, and performs a special attack every seven attacks.
- (3:56) Wearing the Tortugan shield means the Shellbane Gryphon's regular attacks do almost no damage, so trips can be tremendously longer.
- (3:56) Gnomonkey says there is very little going on with the Shellbane Gryphon: you basically just move occasionally and dodge everything while you attack.
- (7:36) Gnomonkey says as a main the Shellbane Gryphon drops are probably not worth it, but as an Iron Man there are some really good drops.
Shellbane Gryphon
- (1:03) Gnomonkey notes a steel ring (a drop from the Deranged archaeologist on Fossil Island) is really heavy and useful for reaching the weight threshold, and mixed hide boots are a little heavier than climbing boots.
- (1:59) The Shellbane Gryphon has a mechanic where, if you have more than 45 kilograms of weight equipped, you block its knockback attack.
- (1:59) If you are under 45 kg equipped, the Shellbane Gryphon's knockback attack hits for roughly 10 to 30 damage and throws you backwards.
- (1:59) Gnomonkey says to disassemble your Slayer helmet with the right-click disassemble option and wear a black mask instead for the Shellbane Gryphon, because the black mask is heavier.
- (2:25) If you have over 45 kg equipped, the Shellbane Gryphon is stunned instead, you block the damage and you get a bonus hit (two swings) on the boss.
- (2:25) If you cannot get over 45 kg equipped you can still easily kill the Shellbane Gryphon; you just take a little extra damage.
- (5:37) Only equipped weight counts for the Shellbane Gryphon mechanic, not the weight of your inventory; Gnomonkey demonstrated taking off his body armour and being knocked back, taking a 28.
Shellbane Gryphon
- (3:56) As one of its specials, the Shellbane Gryphon places tornadoes on the ground near your feet roughly every five ticks (Gnomonkey is unsure of the exact timing); they grow into larger tornadoes, hurt you every tick if you stand on them, and explode if you are next to them.
- (4:26) The Shellbane Gryphon's acid attack is easy to dodge by stepping out of the way; if it hits you it applies a status effect called corrosion that hits you for 3s with a new hit splat.
- (4:26) To stop the corrosion damage from the Shellbane Gryphon's acid, take off all armour that gives defensive bonuses (including the ring); Gnomonkey notes this is awkward because you may have to drop items to make inventory space.
- (5:40) If you ignore the Shellbane Gryphon's tornadoes and five stack on top of you, they explode for about 70 damage (Gnomonkey saw hits of 60 and 70); this is the only thing that can really hurt or kill you in the fight.
- (6:40) Gnomonkey says the stacked tornadoes only hurt you if you fall asleep; moving a little bit avoids them entirely.
Shellbane Gryphon
- (0:00) Gnomonkey approaches the Shellbane Gryphon from the perspective of an Iron Man starting bossing, using an Arkan blade, Barrows gloves, mixed hide boots, a steel ring, and tank armour from Barrows (or Rune platebody and legs are fine).
- (0:00) Gnomonkey considers the Arkan blade, a spec weapon from the quest that unlocks Mocha, a decent stab weapon and decent spec that works okay at the Shellbane Gryphon.
- (1:03) A Berserker ring is really good for the Shellbane Gryphon, but running no ring is also fine.
- (1:32) The Tortugan shield, a quest item from the quest that unlocks the Shellbane Gryphon, blocks almost all of the damage the Gryphon does; Gnomonkey says without it melee hits are basically guaranteed and with it they do not hit at all.
- (2:08) For supplies Gnomonkey brings supers, some prayer potions, and food, saying lower tier food is fine, plus a teleport away.
Gryphon horn
- (7:54) The Shellbane Gryphon drops feathers that charge its horn; the horn gives a passive Hunter boost and a 10% chance to double Hunter catches.
- (7:54) Gnomonkey says the horn is very solid for hunting chinchompas and similar creatures, such as cotton-type catches.
Belle's folly
- (8:22) Gnomonkey describes the new rapier, Belle's folly, as a very slow, heavy-hitting stab weapon, basically the Zombie axe but for stab.
- (8:23) Gnomonkey considers the rapier an excellent option for Tombs of Amascut and very good for killing Eclipse Moon, a really good mid-level stab weapon.
- (8:23) Gnomonkey suggests Irons planning to do Moons and then Tombs of Amascut can use the rapier to skip getting a Hasta; he says it is almost as good as a Hasta in Tombs of Amascut and very accurate.
- (8:53) Gnomonkey says the Black Kirus (as transcribed) exists and is better than the rapier but takes a while to obtain, so get the rapier first and swap to the Black Kirus later, or to a Fang if you get one.
