Topics covered
Cooking
- (0:00) Gnomonkey calls Cooking an AFK and profitable skill and an incredibly good 99 to do early on a main account, with about 10 million gp profit going to 99.
- (0:00) Actively training Cooking by one-ticking karambwans can pull upwards of 800k XP an hour while profitable, and Gnomonkey says you can finish 99 Cooking in one day with an all-nighter.
- (0:32) Gnomonkey says cooking gauntlets (after Family Crest) are the only real gear to get before heavily training Cooking, and only for AFK training since they do not help with karambwans.
- (0:32) According to a recent tweet by Mod Ash, cooking gauntlets only work on lobsters, swordfish, monkfish, sharks and anglerfish.
- (1:03) The cooking cape makes it impossible to burn all foods entirely.
- (1:03) Gnomonkey recommends getting a fire cape and 100% Hosidius favour before grinding Cooking, as both unlock useful cooking locations; the Hosidius range reduces burn rates by 5%, or 10% with the elite Kourend diary.
- (1:36) Gnomonkey does not recommend waiting for the current elite diaries (79 Cooking if boosting, 90 Slayer, 85 Woodcutting) because the extra 5% burn reduction is a very small benefit, and recommends stopping at 50 Cooking to unlock the Hosidius range.
- (2:05) A range has marginally lower burn rates than a fire for all foods.
- (2:05) Gnomonkey says many assume the Myths' Guild is the best place to cook, but the sulphur vent in Mor Ul Rek counts as a range, is equally close to a bank, and is much easier to access, needing only a fire cape shown once to the guard.
- (2:35) The Hosidius range is six tiles from a bank so is only worth using if you can burn food; Gnomonkey calls it the best range for cooking karambwans until 99.
- (2:35) Without a fire cape the next best place is the Cooking Guild with the Varrock hard diary, two tiles from a bank; otherwise the Rogues' Den fire is zero tiles from a bank but has higher burn rates.
- (3:02) Going from 1 to 35 Cooking costs about 15k gp, and 1 to 15 requires 81 shrimp cooked successfully, with a little under half burning, so about 200 shrimp should be bought.
- (3:02) Cook's Assistant gives level 4 Cooking and Gertrude's Cat gives level 12 Cooking, both without requirements; with both done only 28 shrimp need to be cooked and about 50 should be bought.
- (3:30) From level 15 to 25 cook trout (78 successful cooks, buy about 200); from 25 to 35 cook salmon (182 successful cooks, or 62 if stopping at 30), buying about double.
- (4:31) Karambwans can be cooked from level 30 with the Tai Bwo Wannai Trio quest, with a 51% success rate at level 30 rising linearly to 100% at level 99.
- (4:31) To one-tick cook karambwans, after cooking one successfully hold space and click the cooking spot with proper timing.
- (4:31) Gnomonkey says karambwans are the best option for getting 99 Cooking as fast as possible, from level 30 to 99 and beyond.
- (4:59) At the Hosidius range karambwans stop burning at level 93; from level 93 they give up to 950k Cooking XP an hour, and even at level 30 at a regular range up to 475k XP an hour.
- (5:27) To avoid losing money to burning, Gnomonkey recommends waiting until level 52 to cook karambwans at the Hosidius range, or 57 at any other range, since these are the break-even levels.
- (5:48) Gnomonkey says wines from level 35 are only worth doing on an Iron Man account as it is more intensive than other methods and costs about 0.7 gp per XP; a wine chain gives no XP drop until you stop, allowing massive XP drops.
- (6:14) If not cooking karambwans, cook tuna from 35 to 50, needing 790 successful cooks with about 30% burning, so buy about a thousand.
- (6:32) From 50 to 62 cook lobster; get cooking gauntlets at this point; 1938 successful lobsters are needed, with burning stopping at level 61 at the Hosidius range with gauntlets, and Gnomonkey would buy roughly 2,500.
- (7:07) From level 62 to 87 cook monkfish, skipping swordfish entirely; 24,257 successful monkfish are needed, so Gnomonkey would buy about 30,000 raw monkfish.
- (7:25) As of the video monkfish gave 97 gp profit each or 0.65 gp in XP, and Gnomonkey says at a 25% burn rate they roughly break even, while swordfish lose money no matter what.
- (7:56) At the Hosidius range with gauntlets, monkfish stop burning at level 82, and sharks stop burning at level 89.
- (8:08) From 87 to 92 cook sharks, needing 12,119 successful cooks to hit 92, so Gnomonkey would buy around 13,500; sharks were then 128 gp profit each or 0.61 gp in XP.
- (8:47) From 92 to 99, if still AFK, cook anglerfish, the last fish gauntlets help with; 28,336 successful anglerfish are needed, so Gnomonkey would buy about 29,000.
- (8:56) Gnomonkey disagrees with the wiki's suggestion of starting anglerfish at level 84, and suggests going back to Mor Ul Rek for the last level.
- (9:27) Karambwans stop burning at level 93, so 30,731 karambwans would be needed to reach 99 from level 93.
- (9:46) At the time of the video Gnomonkey said dark crabs and manta rays were not worth cooking: dark crabs have much less profit, and manta rays only slightly more than anglerfish but burn more, and gauntlets do not help with them so they burn up to level 99 even at Hosidius.
Karambwan
- (4:31) Karambwans give a 51% successful cook rate at level 30 that rises linearly to 100% at level 99.
- (4:59) Cooking gauntlets do nothing while cooking karambwans.
- (4:59) Gnomonkey says one-tick cooking karambwans gives up to 950k Cooking XP an hour from level 93 at the Hosidius range.
Baked pie
- (10:14) The Lunar spell Bake Pie requires 65 Magic as well as the Cooking level of the pie being baked, and casting it cooks every pie in the inventory, one cast per pie, with no burn chance.
- (10:31) Bake Pie cooks pies in three ticks instead of four, making it effectively 25% faster than a range, and costs only one astral rune with a steam staff.
- (10:31) Bake Pie gives about 500k Cooking XP an hour and 100k Magic XP an hour, but is expensive: even with the most profitable pie, summer pies, you lose about 500 gp per cast.
- (10:31) Gnomonkey says Bake Pie might be worth it if you want both Cooking and Magic XP, but he would not do it on one of his accounts because it is far too expensive.
Cooking gauntlets
- (0:32) Cooking gauntlets are obtained after the Family Crest quest.
- (0:32) Cooking gauntlets reduce burn rates by a decent margin but only for lobsters, swordfish, monkfish, sharks and anglerfish, according to Gnomonkey citing a Mod Ash tweet.
- (6:32) Gnomonkey says to get cooking gauntlets at level 50 when starting lobsters, since they now help you burn less.
